From Paladyr's explanation, it's 6 times, but random directions each time. That means it might choose N, N, N, S, W, N for instance - there's no guarantee that it'll choose every direction. While Paladyr can confirm, I think we can prove that norides are considered to be valid rooms to flee to. We have two different outcomes - failing the 'pick 6 random directions' check and what I'll call 'failed move'.

First check - 'can I find a valid direction', picking 6 directions randomly and seeing if they're open
Second check - 'can I move to the room in that direction' - multiple things can stop this, like noride rooms, an open door closing before you finish the flee, etc.

Failed the first check - 'PANIC! You couldn't escape!'
Passed the first check but noride - 'You can't ride in there'
Passed the first check but door closes - 'PANIC! You couldn't escape!'

right so question was intending to use what u just said as a given, then adding a bit onto it. So for the example i gave where west and north are valid flees, east is a no ride with a door and lets suppose that you are wimpy and rolled
s, d , e, n, u, w for the directions

What WILL happen according to what Paladyr said while the door was open and dismounted:
s-invalid flee, failed check
d- invalid flee, failed check
e- door is open so east is valid flee, passed check and fled east
didnt continue to all 6 rolls because it has a valid flee

What I THINK will happen according to what Paladyr said while the door is was closed and while mounted or dismounted
s-invalid flee, failed check
d-invalid flee, failed check
e-is not an obvious exit with door closed, so invalid flee, failed check and keeps rolling <------ can an imm confirm this please
n- valid flee, passed check and fled north

What I THINK will happen with the door open while mounted
s-invalid flee, failed check
d-invalid flee, failed check
e- valid flee, passed check so it stops rolling, but cant go in there because its no ride and you are mounted, you stay in room <---- can you confirm this as well?

I think you were just getting really unlucky with the RNG there. That's a one-exit room too, so your chances of failing flees go up, surprisingly enough, in it.
