Thanks for the correction.Thuvia wrote:Not quite true about no coders since that. Yes the Thunder issue doubtless has caused trust issues, but Flash actually promoted 4 people as coders (Myrddin, Tomasz, Telchak, and Paladyr) back in February of 2006.
Since then I'm fairly certain a couple of others were approved to coding positions, or at least taken on as trainees, but I can't say what happened with that.
Bring in New and Old blood to MUD

Re: Bring in New and Old blood to MUD
I know this is a coding change, but I think they really need to look into how ride works for new players. New human players really just need to start with level 1 ride and it needs to stick around at your level 3 practice reset.
It is very easy to find yourself horseless and haggard with an incredibly slow walk back to a city in your future. We bemoan the plight of trollocs who are haggard - level 3 humans without ride have it worse.

I laugh at people who think it's tragic or cronisim when they don't succeed in the game.
This isn't a single player game where if you screw up you can just type reset. We are all real people so if you act like an idiot all the time you won't go far. It's not unfair, it's how things are supposed to work.

Every time you stat (get to level 3) your mvs and hps reset. Then if you type restat your mvs and hps reset again. So don't type restat so fast, run around and find the next set of saplings first. I stat without any food or water... don't need it.
Re: Bring in New and Old blood to MUD
lol at sarryn's point of view, the narrative that some people concoct for their experiences are truly hilarious.
Re: Bring in New and Old blood to MUD
Just play DS. I am quite kind. Unless you're a dodger. Then you will get BERSERK BASHED!
Re: Bring in New and Old blood to MUD
I don't know, I think there are multiple reasons why people quit and never come back. One reason is the journey it takes to get somewhere often times is more rewarding than the actual destination. Once you've achieved what you've been trying to for so long you either decide what you're going to do from there or you just lose interest and stat playing a different game, or just go on with your life.
This game was fun and can still be fun, but sometimes we just move on. Not because something someone has done to us or not done for us. People just change. They look for something else to fill the void. Let's be completely honest, what is keeping you here? It has to be friends, and the thrill of pvp. Because there are many things that we were promised that kind of fizzled out. Back in 2003-2004 we were promised WoTMUD V, that never happened. Back I think in 2010 we were told to hold on to our seats because the story was going to dramatically catch up with the books, but that never happened.
I think things that could inject life into this game and bring other players back would be some more progression in the WoT timeline. Maybe even monthly or bi-monthly global events. There is only so much you can do on this game before it is you doing the same thing over and over and over again. WoTMUD is stagnant. People quit and come back because of nostalgia and to talk about how things used to be, because things were exciting back then, and really immersive. Now it just feels like everyone is going through the motions.
I've asked a few times about advertisement and was told we didn't want to advertise the MUD because there was a fear that Harriet might make us take the MUD down. I don't really think that's the case, I think we should have a representative reach out to her, show her were RJ let us have the rights to play this game and ask her if we could advertise. The worse thing that's going to happen is that Team Jordan is going to make us take the game down. Is that such a bad thing? Sometimes in life people we love and things we love die, we will always remember them and cherish the memories we had of them but, we still have to live life and move on.
Why do you not like the players giving donations Flash?
I enjoyed playing this game, and I want to enjoy playing it again, but we have to change our mind about the MUD, it is not what it used to be, it is what it is now. Don't try to make the MUD what it used to be, try to make it something better, try to make it something new. Don't recreate the old, because part of the old is what has us in the situation we are in now.
In closing I would like to say, thank you Flash and Zun for one creating this game that so many people are still passionate about. Thank you immortal staff for giving your free time, but if there are issues of control you wrestle over, maybe change let go and you'll see a change in morale. And THANK YOU to the players that have been my friends, Lara, Lolita, Gem, Alayla, Jul, Toranaga, Vayus, Rico, Austin, Catie, Taig and everyone else that I've been through this WoT journey with, you guys made this game fun for me and I appreciate you and cherish the times that we had together.

Re: Bring in New and Old blood to MUD
I'm with Jocelyn. The silly logic of being scared to ask to advertise, or advertise in fear of being taken down is odd, considering the alternative is to let the mud die naturally. It's lose-lose. Is there really any harm in asking? Because there's harm in not.
Empty promises make things stagnant, but I fear that that is due to mismanagement, rather than a lack of passionate staff.
Love the game Flash, but throw us a bone here

Re: Bring in New and Old blood to MUD
I got a lot of positive response from Top mud sites forums section. Especially the "Advertising for Players" section. If you register for the Forums there and we get a more active promotion than just the "vote" count I think we could see some response.
Re: Bring in New and Old blood to MUD
To be fair. This game has held some players longer than most other games I have ever played. A game is kind of like a school. It needs new players to replace the people who leave, but it cant opt to keep everyone forever. Thats not possible. And this game keeps people more than most.
I think its way more important to focus on getting new players, and make the game better for new players, giving them incentive to stay. Rather than changing the game drastically so the old people will comeback and play for a few months before they are gone again.
