Adding to our Playerbase - Campaign
Re: Adding to our Playerbase - Campaign
I mentioned before, maybe even in this thread, that all clans should have an automatic 30 day trial period. You are in the clan, you have the tag, you do all the things with the clan, and yes, you learn some of their secrets. At the end of that 30 day period there is then an application process and you start at level 1 to do all the initial things that a new recruit would do. If a clan is not active then either the player is automatically in, or the clan is retired for a period of time (maybe 6 months) due to inactivity.
Other than those that think they are "protecting" something there is absolutely no reason why this should happen.

Re: Adding to our Playerbase - Campaign
Letting people trial is stupid. I have characters in secret clans. Wanna know how I got in??? I rp'd and didn't cry when/if I got no voted or told to firetruck off. Took me like 4 attempts at Gaidin to finally get in.
Clanning now, especially in secret clans, is easier than it ever has been. The only thing stopping you from having that cool wolfbrother is yourself.

Re: Adding to our Playerbase - Campaign
Did you use the same character each time for the Gaidin? Just curious.

He kept accidentally narrating:
"F&*% you! F#$% you all! I hate this f^&$ing game" which just gave him away

Re: Adding to our Playerbase - Campaign
No, I used a new character for each attempt. Also the fuckayous and fuckathisgames were definitely not used in moderation during any of my attempts.
Re: Adding to our Playerbase - Campaign
I like the idea of trying something new like a trial period for all clans.
It is sad that certain people keep others from experience parts of this game that are locked due to personalities and other character interactions.

Re: Adding to our Playerbase - Campaign
This is the problem:
I go to wotmud.org. I click on "Play the Game". On firefox, I get an action dialog and then nothing. On IE, nothing happens.
How long how is been like that? Probably years.
If that is what happened 25 years ago when I first started to look into wheel of time games, I would have never played and neither would all the people where this was their first MUD experience.
There is so much work done with statting, tutorials, eye of the world. None of that mean anything. It's like having a really nice welcoming living room when all your doors are locked except the back door. I am actually shocked that we get any new players at all as right now the only player that can join are people that have a MUD client already and know what telnet is.
arguing about clanning process is like arguing who is allowed to use the master bathroom in a locked house.
The first step and argulably the most important step. Fix the game portal/launch page. Fix it before the Wheel of Time TV series launch. It should either open up a web client, or at least have a very short instruction and link to a client like mudlet. Trying to add to our playerbase when they cannot even play for the first time is futile.

Check out wotmud.info! Now we just need wotmud.org to reroute to wotmud.info.Aria wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 9:14 amThis is the problem:

Re: Adding to our Playerbase - Campaign
Nass was in game a few months ago and stated that although he wasn't going to be be an active Imm, he would however be looking at updating the website. Now whether this was just hyperbole or not, only time or some sort of clarification from Vampa or Elysia well tell . . . .Dartes wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 10:33 amCheck out wotmud.info! Re: Adding to our Playerbase - Campaign
The web client is a really good starting point we can sell people on. It even has a map built in.
It's a shame that the new website is so good but that there's no re-direct yet. It's really, really simple to do. :\
afaik the staff is aware and it's just waiting on the people with website access to do though. It's really quick to do a 301 redirect though *shrug*
