What would make people play LS again?
Re: What would make people play LS again?
Nothing stops us from making a fan-based wotmud site with a different URL and trying to out rank the original?

Re: What would make people play LS again?
I requested this after the previous thread, but nothing came of it.Thuvia wrote:Even just getting rid of the robots.txt alone would help.
Re: What would make people play LS again?
Minor thread derail, but the workings of this RP award have always seemed rather arcane to me. For example, in the past six to eight weeks, I've been completely gone for three weeks, and spent the remainder of the time sitting in Caemlyn, doing absolutely nothing and having a bare minimum of contact with anyone. And yet, somehow, I earned a QP.Elysia wrote:I did want to touch on this. I can't remember the exact year Eileen was back, but extra rp awards have been in since then. If you see a random qp popping up, that will probably be due to this. It's not automated to prevent abuse through spamming, but it's there. I'm sure the more roleplay inclined Tower folk have seen regular rewards, since I see a lot of rp there. But DS and SS plus every LS who speaks in character with any regularity can benefit from this.Cil wrote:RP has pretty much totally died on the side. I think more rewards or interactive mobs that que rewards for them would be great. I think RPers might play more. Granted wont help pk but still players is players.
Re: What would make people play LS again?
Me too. I know there is this whole thing about not making money. But the website is a seperate entity. Willing to donate to spruce things up. Im even sure some of us know how to improve it ourselves to get to the next level.Thuvia wrote:I still cannot understand why no one is allowed any access to the website. Even just getting rid of the robots.txt alone would help.
I'm more than willing to help pay for the services of a professional to spruce the site up, if money/skill/trust are holding things up.
Small rp sessions. Love this. Even having a brigand leader talking to Jasmin and i one morning was a fun experience. Basically I think the best is to
word of mouth it. Vivienne has this neat trick she does with her games on ingress. VivWot. Maybe some of you that does pokemon go does a GamenamWotmud tag. That would get you noticed.
How i found this game. Reading the books. I do believe with the series coming or movies more people will search for a wheel of time game. Thus if we look at the certainties - website , game , coding , playerbase - we can then know that an influx of people is super possible.
Telling other people about it. Getting t shirts made with wotmud.org on it. I agree that sometimes most of us will just wear a t shirt with anything on it.
"Are you stressed? Come kill a Trolloc on wotmud.org" or something like that.
I have faith in this game and the people that is around. Even in the early mornings i see people helping newbies. That warms my heart.
As long as there is a pulse and breathing the patient is still alive. Then you can fight to keep them alive.
We have a pulse , we have a heartbeat .
Ideas to expand our universe. Creating connections to other websites. Eg a good written piece of gaming review by a popular web magazine would spruce up people coming here. Getting other players on your other games interested in wotmud would boost us badly.
I always say its possible to have 2000 players on this game. Its free and fun.

Re: What would make people play LS again?
I have fun and would hate this game to shut, along with others. It is just not realistic to say we can get huge amounts or ones that were supposed to fill the who list back when...?
We should as others have said focus on us and do what we can to draw others in. We are fighting against great games, tech and software within our genre of online games.
Those of us who play now are in out 30-40s etc and some younger. We need to reach out to those with taste in text based rp/pvp games. I know trust is a big issue for Flash and others, but we need some folks to do their stuff. The ones who offer and have a good background. They can be vetted?

Re: What would make people play LS again?
Someone wrote more narrating mobs .
Bush one is my fav. I dont even know where the others are. Maybe get the mobs to yell who is hitting it.
"Ali is attacking me at bush .. come kill the wench."
One of my fav memories is hitting a mob. Running around from the mob up to orchard and down to fd. With a fade incoming. Think it was equitant.
saying to me "Why you teasing me like that, ali."
Yes. More narrating mobs will help and show where the ds want pk.
I do like the idea of a player run website. I mean look at what thuvia is doing on wotwiki for us. That alone has me feeling like there is a whole world of wotmud still to explore.
Dartes made a good point. The link to play the game on the website doesnt work.Seems that google chrome requires outside permission to run telnet.
Its the little details that can help us as players improve the game.
I agree with the ss rent. The temp one for ds helped wb pk a lot more than before. I miss the days when ds captured wb and it became hostile.
Lets give them-ss- a rent and a tempflag that allows them to be not hit by ls mobs. This way we will have more ss and lss vs ds pk.
As for those that says the mud is dying. stop saying so.
Doomsayers are always wrong.

Re: What would make people play LS again?
Yeah, it's done by mobol because imm rewards off a list are hard to script. The syntax for online and offline awards is different and if you mess up, people don't get rewarded at all. When someone triggers mobol, they're quite obviously online so we opted for using that. However, to keep down lag, the thing that triggers the rewarding is not set at 100% and thus there can be quite a delay between earning the qp and actually getting it.Etain wrote:Minor thread derail, but the workings of this RP award have always seemed rather arcane to me. Re: What would make people play LS again?
That makes a bit more sense. Thank you for the reply.
There is no doomsaying about it. Fact of life: everything dies. Doesn't mean WoTMUD will die today, or tomorrow, or even a year from now. Keep working, and playing, for as long as you can. Just remember that eventually, you, I, and everyone else will have to decide when it's time to move on.Ali wrote:As for those that says the mud is dying. stop saying so.

I feel like, this community we have, can be so much more. Most of us, as players want us to be more. We want the 100+ players on at one time. I feel like there are some trust issues though, between the Imms and the playerbase.
As was said before we could use some coding and some promotion on other sites and things that would draw some new eyes. I appreciate all that our Immortals do for all of us. You are keeping the game alive with the effort you put in.
I don't know if anyone else notices, but it seems to me you imms fight amongst yourselves too. Maybe these disagreements you have can be set aside? I might be wrong. Let some of us who care about this world try and help more than just rping and playing the game maybe.
I'm all over the place with what I'm saying but you can get what I mean I think!
