The wood is quite burned," Xoco was saying. "Now what I don't understand.. is why we don't just ask who did it? Maybe it was just an accident, there's no need to start a lynch party just because of a bit of burned wood! If it was an honest mistake, give the person time to come forward and admit to the fault, and we can all work together again to rebuild the thing! Surely that's the most intelligent thing to do. Yes, the wood really is quite burned!"

Joolis woke up groggily and rubbed his eyes. Sniff, sniff. There was a smell of burning wood in the air, and something... sweeter, yet pungent.

"Now I thought I done put that fire out last night," he said, sitting up. He looked over to the dead ashes. "Hrmm, very odd."

As he gathered his bearings he noticed a plume of smoke rising toward the sky from the direction of the town. "Very odd indeed, if I didn't know better I'd say the town was on fire!" He got up and relieved himself on a nearby tree, while whistling a happy tune. "Definitely going to be some opportunities during all this commotion!" He buttoned up his pants and headed toward town.

As Bubba emerged from the woods, his eyes took in the sight of the burning building. Bubba so longed for a place that was more civilized. Bubba looked past the villagers looking at his dirty torn clothing. Better to be dirty and overlooked.

Going from one house to a few houses down, and on, Pajana visited townfolk to see how they were handling the disasters. A wisdoms work never done. She had a spry hop to her step, whether it was a muscle acting up or she was leaping all of 3 inches faster per step, she moved just slightly less slower than a mule now than much slower than a mule.

As she went she would scold the children who were sure enough to get in her way. The smells and sight of a burnt inn came to her as she turned a corner in town. She slowed back down to a broken' mules pace.

"Never a days rest, never lack of something horrible going on in this town."

She sighed, patting her herb bag, and moved toward the new gathering of people to see to the injured.

Shaking her head, Pajana sees to the suffering villagers who received burns while putting out the fires.

"Someone must have done this by accident. No lynching is necessary."

The sun started to set on another day of mourning.

The smoke was finally starting to clear as the last remains of the inn finish smoldering.

While many people wonder who could be the culprit, nobody seems to have the slightest idea.

The town still seemed to be stunned and Aira suspected they hadn't seen the worst yet. Maybe she should sleep some place other than her own bed tonight...

Arkan boiled some water and got out some calming tea he had bought earlier. Soon went to bed, leaving a candle burning so the light could be seen coming behind the shutters, but nothing else. He was heard talking to a friend, "I think the tragedies are just coincidence, but this way if someone really is out there, they will think I am awake and go elsewhere in the night." Of course, he also said that he made certain the candle could not possibly start a fire. He wasn't an idiot.

Again the sun dipped below the horizon. At least a dozen villagers would cry through the night of ailments due the days misdeed. She did what she would and cringed at what she probably should have done. They were good people who did good deeds that bad things happened to. They just needed more senses and a stronger will to survive.

Pajana smiled though as she came to her shack. Another day without a life lost. Her village would be well and strong tomorrow for what may come.
