TLDR; stats were a dung show back then. Continue to be something bitched about today. Have no role in any modern game.

I think the only positive about stats is people can choose slightly different loadouts. Someone who likes to play abs charge might go for different hunter stats than someone who likes defensive fblades hunters or something. Just a pity that it cant be simplified and made so that everyone has an easy rout to a top end character - such as having a base and assigning your self like some other games, or some way to grind stats later up to a max sum or whatever it is to improve without having to actually make a new character from scratch (and do huge amounts of grinding at level 1-3, more than it takes to get max level..) in order to improve it.
Having some way to improve stats later on like buying em or whatever, some way to improve em - might have more people actively doing things in game when there's no pk, making for more gank opportunities. Right now there's no progression outside of PK so when there's no pk, theres nothing to do. (for your character, of course you can improve as a player by learning new zones or whatever)

A better solution would be putting in a new extremely rare chit that would give the character the chance to swap stats with another character...then if you have an old character you selected poor stats on...you could look to acquire this chit (expensive and time consuming) and then stat another character or trade for one (expensive and time consuming) and perform the swap.
There shouldn't be many old characters with poor stats at this point I'd think but maybe I'm wrong...
The only ones are probably LS hunters because of the horrendous difficulty in stating one of those...which is probably what needs fixed more then the reroll of old characters?
