I have returned after being gone for almost 6 months. I'm on the fence about staying. I abandoned all of my older characters and started some new ones. I used to enjoy making new friends and getting equipment for the masses. I don't see a lot of that happening in my future. Nothing exceedingly toxic has happened since I came back so I will Reserve judgement for a bit.

Just in reference to Razhak's post and eq return.

There have always been, and probably will always be, those who have a bad day of deaths, or who will just continue running into pk.

I don't see any issue with making it easy for them.

The game should be about fun.

That said - they shouldn't get vitriolic or unpleasant if its not returned.

I do think taking the unique norent items and dumping them in your personal rooms etc is stupid, and really appreciate when people return these (or alternatively bring them back into pk). By all means give them to a troll or something if they want them, but they're items that are specifically meant to be in circulation.

For me personally Smobbing is a chore. If there is no pk I'll ask if anything else going on. Usually i'm ignored 80% of the time. There are groups of friends who just smob together. I'll ask anyone smobbing or what to smob. Nothing. So saying that people returning gear stop people from smobbing is just an assumption and opinion. Me personally idc if I don't get my gear back. It's always awesome if I do. But if not I'll just go raid my chest or my rent. Hell i've gone out wearing 3 pieces of combo and sword and then had a full kit on 10-15 min later from pk. I personally find PK the most fun about this game now that a lot of the old players are gone. And I find it funny that people are complaining how easy exping is now when before it was complaints about how boring and long it took.

Congratulations kids. You've managed to thoroughly derail this thread.

Orino, typically the people bring me back. Sometimes my clan. The memories. The thrill of the kill. And occasionally I work up the courage to pursue some long and difficult-to-achieve goal.

You'll notice that a lot of old faces disappear for a few weeks or months or years at a time. I think everyone gets to the place where they lose interest, or real life takes them away, or they find other things they'd rather do. I think the majority of people eventually come back, though. Even if it's just to visit.

Do yourself a favor. If you leave, don't lose touch.

Heh, join the club! I play rather sporadically myself going for 3-4 months straight before I get sidetracked for months onto years, whether its getting hooked on other games... or girls IRL, or hobby's in general. :P Seriously, clubs and night life is too good of a way to keep busy.

Anyway, what keeps me playing (for however long I do whenever I do come back to it) is just the social aspect above all else. I don't really play the game as competitively as I used to. I tend to play almost exclusively socially, in a relaxed, low-stress inducing manner. I genuinely just log in to hang out with people here and that's good enough for me. Whatever we do - I'm down and we can chill. It's also more fun to play together with friends IRL. Got about a dozen good friends that I play games together with, including wotmud sometimes and that's always fun.

I think for any game, rotation is fairly important so you don't get burnt out on any one game. I can get really philosophical about that concept, but I'm sure we're good here lol.

Though, despite all the things that can cause my interest to wander from the game, I always end up coming back to get a little bit of that wotmud action. 8-)

This guy is the reason I play Wotmud. Every time I was gone, he reeled me back in like a 600lb Tuna.

It's definitely the people that bring me back again and again. For example, having know the players of Damena and Riva for near on 15 years now. I finally got to meet them both earlier this year while in the USA. Spent a week with Damena in Florida and a week with Riva in California.

Those are the things I cherish from this place and why I keep coming back.

FYI - Vampa wouldn''t meet with me, what a jerk.

I came back at the behest of my best friend, who assured me it was a good game again. Had fun with the CoL guys, really gotten into DS, and taken up a position of leadership on SS.

So a lot of trying new things, chilling with friends, all that sort. The ultimate thrill of the game is landing the killing bash/stab for me, especially on high profile characters.

I played this game about 12 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I got my character, Kandal, clanned with the White Tower and she was raised to Accepted before real life got in the way and made it impossible for me to continue to play. I always remembered how much fun I had but when I tried to find the game again a few years ago, it didn't seem to be available. I didn't realize in my general search why Telnet wouldn't work. It wasn't until a few months ago, I was telling my nieces and nephew about this game and how fun it was (I've got them into the Wheel of Time series) that I really started searching in earnest and learned that the game was still around and so decided to try playing again. I've statted a new fc because I wanted to have to go through it all again, instead of logging back into Kandal. (I know, weird, huh? I don't like it to be easy; I want to earn my levels and honors.)

Anyway, I really have no idea what I'm doing. I never learned how to pk and am really more interested in the rp part of the game at this point. (Which is probably a good thing since I have zero idea how to pk or even where I am, half the time!) I wander around making a map for myself on graph paper, because the zMud mapping system doesn't seem to be accurate to me. (Though, that could be operator error!) I pay attention to the chats and narrates, though only half of what I read makes sense to me. I don't know what a lot of the terms are that people use, but I want to learn and have fun.

I have noticed that there aren't as many players as there were when I played over a decade ago and sometimes when I log in, there aren't any other Tower people on either, but, I'll just keep trying to learn my way around and figure out all the "commands", etc. and have fun!
