185 mph sustained for over 36 hours is firetrucking NUTS. Even if it weakens a little by the time it gets to America's Wang, it's looking like a strong Cat 4. Stay safe, don't be stupid.

I was also curious how Irma compares to some of the biggest cyclones, and stumbled on the rather stupefying fact that the largest ever 'measured' cyclone was, at its peak, half the total size of the contiguous United States! Safe to say the world's an amazingly crazy place at times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typhoon_Tip

Definitely stay safe all!

Thoughts and prayers to all you down there affected. Be safe, don't bother over petty materialistic dung. This looks like it will be rough.

If you search you can get some live video feeds from the islands as it hits them. Was able to watch Sint-Maarten right up until it went into the eye. This storm is unbelievable and I have grown up with these things.

For people wondering, the place my folks held up has survived. No word from them yet, but looks like everyone is okay.

Also, for people on the path of this thing. If you decide to stay (I recommend against this) do not walk out into the eye. Saw people doing this on video. The other side comes out of nowhere and is almost instantaneously 100mph winds when it hits.

I have a friend in Pompano Beach and he said things are already starting to get crazy. They were standing in line for a water shipment and people were pushing and shoving and just freaking out. It's definitely scary to hear. :(
