I'd of taken the computer back and exchanged it by now myself. I had a similar issue and just took my computer back and said this thing doesn't work for dung. The one I got replaced it has worked fine...though I have straight worn out the enter key and it now is sketchy sometimes causing miss spams etc. Dam laptop keyboards!

Could be crapwear or windows itself monitoring and bugging out your telnet port. Trying to think outside the box.

When you saw the ping timeouts recently, was that only to Google or did you also have a ping running to your router? I'd recommend checking a ping to the router alongside a ping to Google just to make sure. If both spike at the same time then it's definitely going to be an issue local to the computer and you can see about getting it investigated or replaced where you bought it.

Definitely a good idea!

Now that its narrowed down to the network here are some other things to look at:

0. Check the wifi ping as stated above. This is definitely what I would do first because if the router ping fails, it rules out the Internet (which is a really big place!). Your router's IP is probably 192.168.x.1 or another reserved range of local addresses, but its not hard to figure it out.

1. Check for other environmental factors too that might interfere with wifi signals. Is there a furnace or toaster or anything that emits electrical interference that is turning on while you are seeing the ping problems? Is the Wifi channel (frequency) being used noisy because of neighbors?

2. Check the Windows event log for network errors (like driver problems)

3. Check your wifi routers event log for network errors (particularly errors on the broadband side of the router that connects to your ISP)

4. Take a moment and make sure those NIC drivers are current (likely from the laptop manufacturer's website).

5. Start an overnight full scan of your computer for malware.

Good luck!

Also in this day and age - are you sharing your Broadband with some sort of Media platform or even other PCs that also connects to the 'Net especially if there is someone else streaming something to watch whilst you are Mudding

Of course, just in case it is your new PC you may like to consider a move to a different OS - your client (Mudlet) is available for all of MacOs/Windows/*nix type platforms... ;)

You ever get this solved? Sounds like it could be shitty wifi. Have you tried plugging your computer directly into a lan cable and to your router?

I've noticed that consumer based wifi connectivity sometimes relies heavily on the compatibility between the wifi adapater on the computer and the router you are using.

Hey everyone,

I managed to solve the problem through trolling League of Legends forums about packet loss. Basically I just had to update the firmware on my router (which is a few years old) so that it could communicate better with my wifi adapter (as Track asked).
