FPS
Squad (team oriented combat simulator)
Counter-strke Global Offensive
Arma 3 (combat simulator)
These are my favourites but are at vastly different ends of the fps spectrum, counterstrike is a game of reflexs and instinct while squad and arma are heavily reliant on teamwork and positioning. Bioshock franchise were also enjoyable!
RTS
Total War games - Atilla was always my fave
Age of Empires 2 - Old as the hills but an extremely comptetive multiplayer.
Any of the fallout franchise are good, fallout 2 is the star imo, but that is likely nostalgia
If you like more casual games i'd suggest Civilization 5, Terarria or Stardrew Valley.
Oh and Hotline Miami, best videogame soundtrack!

Wasteland - 2: Great RPG from the original creators of Fallout. Isometric/turn-based/post-apocalyptic.
Pillars of Eternity: Fantasy RPG from the original creators of Balder's Gate. Kickstarted game, so high fan appeal. Isometric/turn based realtime hybrid.

Dragon Age Origins. Has it's problems, but is a solid game that is definitely better on PC than a console.
X-com is also pretty fun and addictive!

I second X-com! X-com Enemy Unknown and Within are amazing and can probably get on the cheap. I sank many many hours into this game, only missing one achievement, but I haven't bothered with the torture of an Impossible level campaign. X-com 2 is pretty fun too, but I prefer EU/W.
The old Fallout's are great too. Probably some of the most robust story telling and deeper character stories out there. Gamestop has it on sale for $3. http://www.cheapshark.com/

Witcher 3 if you haven't played it yet. Definitely a must for rpg lovers.
Loved the dragon age origins suggestion. Is an older game but also one of my all time favs.

It's all right I suppose, but it is no substitute for the "Real Thing"!Ashlee wrote:Haven't played it but have been meaning to pick it up!Firimei Lang wrote:Life is strange
