Am planning on running one after the current one is over.

The rules are very simple, but the strategy of the game is very complex. The strategy is what makes it fun.

The basic rules are:
- Each person is given a role. They must play out their role in the world created by the mafia organizer.
- During day time, players vote on whether to LYNCH someone. Players may abstain by not casting a vote.
- During night time, players can use one action of their choice. The actions available to the player depend on their role. Standard roles are investigator, protector, killer, mayor/sheriff.
- When you die, you're now just a spectator and can't PM others, reveal who killed you, give them information, etc.
- When there are no more Darkfriends, the Wheel wins. When there are no more Lightfriends, the Dark One wins. (There can also be conditional victories for special roles.)

The complexity of it comes out in the way you present yourself in your role. Lynches must be carried out publicly, whereas actions take place privately by mailing the mafia organizer. You can also mail other mafia participants - and this is where most of the strategy takes place. I must have sent about 30 PMs on Night 3 of the current mafia.

It sucks to die early, because most of the fun takes place once people have gotten into the thick of roleplaying publicly and making secret alliances and such without revealing who they are. Darkfriends generally have the advantage because they all find out each other's identities on the first Night, and to balance this they're always outnumbered. So the aim of the game is basically to outmaneuver and uncover your enemies.

I've played some awesome games of mafia and some terrible ones. Some of the more memorable games are ones where everyone thinks the mafia (in WoT world, Darkfriends) are the good guys, until the very end and all the Lightfriends are dead. Some of the more crappy games are ones where someone decides to cheat and it's over before anything good happens. Keep following the current mafia, it's super interesting and when the game's over I'm sure there'll be a lot of chatter about what happened.

If you have any specific questions I will answer them!! It takes one or two mafias to really get a good feel for the game.

Btw, your mistake in the current mafia was being so open with your roleplay. Baddies took you out as soon as it was obvious you were a threat.

In. Boring too when players don't say anything. So just have to wait for bodies to hit the floor and investigators to do their thing, and wait for one of the mafia heads to contact you.

It can be a little boring when players don't interact publicly - something that people haven't been doing enough of in Carlia's mafia! Always keep in mind that the world is basically another player (the organizer). But mafias are also the kind of game that are basically as fun as you make them.. any role can be awesome if you play it well.

Mail the organizer. "INVESTIGATE X tonight."
