Group Think
Group Think
I've noticed a lot of this going around recently and thought I'd share a useful link to help some of the people on this game: http://www.psysr.org/about/pubs_resourc ... erview.htm
Re: Group Think
If the first ten people you meet are an asshole, it's probably you.
Re: Group Think
There's plenty of nice people on this game who I enjoy being around! I'll leave this link for you, I think it would be helpful: http://www.criticalthinking.org/pages/d ... inking/766
Re: Group Think
Am familiar with the concept of group think, seen it at work under stressful situations at nuclear facilities where people are afraid to be wrong and will follow whoever seems most confident about a solution to an impending problem.
You realize group-think very much applies to Civil Watch from what I think most people will see?
1. Illusion of invulnerability –Creates excessive optimism that encourages taking extreme risks.
2.Collective rationalization – Members discount warnings and do not reconsider their assumptions.
3.Belief in inherent morality – Members believe in the rightness of their cause and therefore ignore the ethical or moral consequences of their decisions.
4.Stereotyped views of out-groups – Negative views of “enemy” make effective responses to conflict seem unnecessary.
5.Direct pressure on dissenters – Members are under pressure not to express arguments against any of the group’s views.
6.Self-censorship – Doubts and deviations from the perceived group consensus are not expressed.
7.Illusion of unanimity – The majority view and judgments are assumed to be unanimous.
8.Self-appointed ‘mindguards’ – Members protect the group and the leader from information that is problematic or contradictory to the group’s cohesiveness, view, and/or decisions.
In the act of being fair and being honest of my own clan we had a very active struggle/conversation on actions/reactions to events. We weren't all on same page and had multiple/different solutions in hand. Even still after, events occur and we don't bandwagon, we talk about it in clan before making decisions.
But recent events may not be the purpose for your post, though seeing it I can't help but see it is very likely related, I discontinue.

Re: Group Think
Paj, if you'd allow me one question I'd like to ask you which clan had to have an intervention?
Re: Group Think
You engaged and responded seriously to a Pial post. This will go well.
Re: Group Think
Click that critical thinking link Vaen, I think it would help you sort out that bragging about not dying for 9 months and boasting about being brave don't necessarily go hand in hand.
Re: Group Think
Since this is an attempt to take an ingame issue out of game, which imo makes it personal, I'm locking this.
