A gold duping bug was reported, should the auction stay on or not?

From my reading of the post, it seems that we aren't even sure if anyone has abused this. Shut down the auction, and all are punished for something we aren't even sure has been taken advantage of. Moreover, even if someone has abused it, shutting down the auction still punishes honest players the most. I've acquired a whole ton of gold through basic old fashioned smobbing, and would hate to be shut out of getting to use it thanks to some cheater. I'd rather the cheater have the chance to win some items then everybody have no chance at all. Please allow the auctions to continue.

Why is this even up for debate? Rule 2 has clearly been broken and by Ely's comments the staff have an idea of who the miscreants are. Punish them accordingly, purge the duped gold and restart the auction at a latter time.

If people have been duping large amounts of gold, I don't really see any other way to get it out of the game and make gold useful again?

Just monitor the bug if possible (mobol to report if someone uses it somehow?) and punish anyone you can confirm has been using it with a full alt bank account purge (if possible?) and full eq purge or something if a bank purge is not possible?
