Ideas for recognition of roleplayers.

Post by Elysia » Wed Sep 17, 2025 9:36 am

As we're in the process of switching from the Roleplay Ranks system to a system of imm recognition for long term consistency in both character separation, being In Character and roleplaying, I'm looking for input on ideas for little things that we can reward people with.

For the Tower, that comes in increased status via the bookish 'strength' system. Stronger Sedai were more respected than weaker ones, but with everyone and their dog having 17-19 wil and most people getting to master, that doesn't work. So currently, a Sedai with a long history of quality roleplay and character separation has the ability to gain extra 'strength' that is measured via mobol. It doesn't do anything except for roleplayers wishing to partake in that aspect of Aes Sedai roleplay.

We're looking for recognition, not bonuses, for these good roleplayers both in and out of the Tower. So please don't suggest things that would affect balance, like a dreadlord coat equivalent that these people can issue.

Right now, we've gathered the following ideas:

Small perks, where people start their journey as they dip their toes in roleplay and gain more as they get better and reveal themselves to be on the up and up with the IC and OOC:
Retools at the seamstress.
A class based pet. So hunters would get a different kind than a fc would. Think along the lines of cats liking fcs, but dogs not so much. A rogue might get a ferret to squeeze into tight spaces.
Greetings by mobs to recognize one's status.
A way to gain a 'roleplay space', a room that can be modified by mobol to suit someone's needs.
Ability to send (retooled) sheets of paper to players, with or without text, for roleplay purposes.

Big perks, for people who hit the marks consistently over a longer period of time. Think of the top of the line RPers and how long they have been at it. When they're active, you know you can expect quality IC interactions. They keep alts separate as best as they can. Note: this doesn't mean that you can't "alt because a basher is more useful than a rogue", but that you don't use OOC knowledge to influence things that would affect another char ICly. The most glaringly obvious example would be having a Red Ajah and a Dragonsworn 'informant' to rat out your Dragonsworn 'friends' so your Red has someone to hunt.

Clan horse.
Personal mob.

We've also tossed around the potential for unique items that aren't better than standard items, but only accessible if you're recognized as a good/ consistent RPer. What type of items would you like to see if that were the case?

So yeah, the more ideas, the more we can encourage people that they are on the right track and give a visible nod that "hey, you're doing well with this". If you have an idea that sounds like it fits in with this, please share!

I like the idea of little things throughout the world that add a bit of depth and flavor!
  • Mobs with custom greetings would be fun. Probably mostly in home-zones for justice clans, or squares/taverns for Gleeman and Illuminators. Random villager mobs for Wisdoms.
  • Perhaps at higher tiers there could be more zone-wide type messages, such as the interesting messages you can see happen in Cairhien, but player-focused like "Rumors of Lisette's recent conquests in the Blight spread through the streets." or "The common-folk buzz with excitement as word spreads that the Gleeman Bragar has taken up residence in the city." Edit: Now that I'm thinking of it, I'd likely use the bellman mobs more often if they didn't wander and were easier to find.
  • Clan horses: I do miss my clan horse! Though when everyone had them it tended to litter up the mud with useless horses all over the place. Maybe could make clan horses ridable by anyone, and add a horse ticket exchange mob to trade any bloodstock/warhorse(?) stable ticket for a clan horse stable ticket in order to 'issue' a special horse. Then, when the clan horse is stabled, it stables as a generic warhorse ticket? That way you don't litter the map with un-ridable horses, and if someone takes your special horse, they don't really get to keep using it once they log off.
  • Unique items: Perhaps something fun like custom food/drink items? Unique neck/cloak/visible items, sort of like clan trinks, with normal base stats could be fun.

I had a thought on this, what if, in true RP style, certain mobs have an extra saying for the person. Mobs that correlate to their profession or clan?

For example:

Aes Sedai: Mobs that can channel of the same faction (LS) give an extra nod, phrase, or even shy away if they are trying to hide. This would exclude Smobs so we general are there to dispense justice, or maybe add them as emboldened against them, not sure some sisters would be prepared for that.

Gleeman: Innkeepers offer a special phrase, or barkeeps could give a bow/round on the house to those that reach that rank.

Illuminators: Farmers could look at their thatched roofs and roll their eyes. City captains could give a phrase about not blasting the city to bits.

Wisdoms: Certain sick mobs could ask for help, or some male mobs could tell them to “Move on with your bloody herbs, they’re not wanted here.” Some of the sparks of rp we used to see around every corner in days past.

These are just examples but would add some bookish rp to the mud and wouldn't require an Imm to turn them on or off if someone is out of favor. I thought about horses, but as Nylen stated, it does lead to a lot of clutter, and once one has one, there is a race for everyone to have one. Something that could work mob wise, is a specific pet they could obtain to travel with them that kills rats/ravens on LS like the Birds of Prey from Tear.

This might be too far, but what If there was a special mob, in each city (retooled guard) that could craft a chest for them once per boot (no mats required). A chest piece that is retool-able to clan gear (would help promote pvp but also draw away from smobbing.) Red Robes, Breast plate, Shirt.
