Since it can take quite a few hitpoints and thus time to get to Anoluram, when it has one of its lesser loads, people usually feel like they wasted their time.
To slightly remedy this, you can now bring a woodcutter's axe to Anoluram's room. If you feel his load is a waste of time, drop the woodcutter's axe and you will gain access to a randi-loading chest. It will (or should, anyway) load a sum of gold, and a chance of three tiers of items, including rares.
