Introducing Buyable Rerolls

Post by Aureus » Thu Oct 31, 2024 12:34 am

Hello!

One thing we are trying to make sure we encourage is active gameplay on the characters you care about and who have meaningful history. Statting is of course the biggest offender in this area, since it requires turning your high-level character back into a newbie and running a stat-bot for many weeks -- meaning you can't play the game during this period. It also gives an artificial sense of who's around, making the game feel more anti-social.

So we are introducing buyable rerolls. Here's how they work:
  1. You can now gain exp at level 51, up to just before level 52. (You cannot advance to level 52.)
  2. At max exp, you can go to your class trainer and BUY REROLL to buy a reroll.
    • Buying a reroll returns you to the minimum exp for level 51.
    • You cannot stockpile rerolls beyond what your age allows, but you can bank them up to that max (there's no reason to do so, but hey, you do you).
  3. At level 3, you now get a free reroll.
  4. You start earning free age-based rerolls when your character is 100 years old instead of 200.
  5. Note that personnel trainers (exp scalps) do not work for level 51 characters at this time, meaning you will need to exp the old-fashioned way. (We may adjust over time, but are starting here so that exp scalps are not hogged by level 51s and people trying to level up can still do so without competing with those trying to buy rerolls.)
Now you have something to do either solo or with friends at level 51, which makes exp zones relevant again if you're aiming for superstats.

I've left the ability to restat your level 3 in place right now, while we are transitioning to this new system. In the near future, I will remove the ability to restat at level 3 so the primary way to try to get better stats will be to purchase rerolls from your class trainer. I just want to make sure everything is working properly first.

This change is live as of right now. Enjoy!

Also please note if you receive a message when trying to reroll that says "I'm sorry.. but I didn't recognize that command.", then you will need to REROLL DECLINE first and then reroll. I am not sure why the reroll code requires this -- I think to prevent you from accidentally hitting enter multiple times and burning up your rerolls, but it seems poorly implemented and the game message is not at all clear. I will clean it up when I have time.

Sorry - bad news! We missed a bug when we were rolling this out. We've disabled it for now, but it should be back in roughly a week.

Abusing the reroll bug to create a perfect statted character will result in the loss of character. Example, someone created a new mc and rerolled 52 times to get perfect physical stats. That char is now permanently jailed. Do not do this.

And for the record, doing this leaves a permanent record that is as visible as seeing your stats, the amount you have in the bank and so on.

Also, thanks to everyone who pinged us to report this. You're awesome!
