town proper and appears to be solely for use by hunters wishing to trap and

Might just revisit the whole desc.
This member of the town's militia stands in a slumped stance, instead of
upright and at attention. He has given up on trying to maintain perfect law and
order, and has settled on trying to stop just the crimes he sees. He notices
you glance and returns it with a smirk before promptly turning away.
