I'm almost certain "put 200 crowns backpack" worked previously (assuming you had over 200 crowns in inventory, of course).

Now it seems to fail - considering the 'crowns' as the container.

Note that if I try 'put 200 gold backpack' it tells me that my gold ring isn't a container. But I usually use 'crowns' as it's more specific.
* N HP:Healthy MV:Full >
help put
PUT

Syntax: put <item> <container>

This is used to put one item inside another, in order to free up room
in your hands, or protect your money.

Example:
> put bread sack
> put 10 gold bag

* N HP:Healthy MV:Full >
i
You are carrying:
a wealth of gold crowns (273)
eighteen copper pennys

* N HP:Healthy MV:Full >
put 200 crowns backpack
A wealth of gold crowns is not a container.

>you don't have a crown

Pretty sure this has always been the case. Can only “give” exact amounts or “drop” exact amounts.

I'm almost 100% certain it did work.

I have a few alts (unclanned/nothing special) e.g., an abser. Dorien is easily my best money-making machine. I've been passing cash to my alts so they can get things out of rent. But today it didn't work.

I was concerned I had forgotten or mistaken the command, but I am pretty sure it's right according to my memory of the commands.
