Buckets with soil disappear when sieving

Post by Mux » Wed Jun 30, 2021 4:31 pm

See this log:

You are carrying:
a bucketload of light soil
a stack of sieves

* R HP:Healthy MV:Fresh >
drop bucket
You drop a bucketload of light soil.

* R HP:Healthy MV:Fresh >
sieve soil
Ok.

* R HP:Healthy MV:Fresh >

Sieve what soil?

* R HP:Healthy MV:Fresh >
The bucket also disappears. Why does it do that? This happens like 50% of the time.

Just try again. Mobol isn't perfect. You'll find this at the gemcutter too.

Oh, the gemcutter does it too. I gave him a raw stone and money and he just tells me "What stone do you want me to cut?" It's frustrating to lose materials like this, but it could also be a very serious problem. Stuff randomly disappearing is a hallmark sign of dangling pointers and memory leaks.

It doesn't disappear, you can use the command again and it will take sooner or later.

Also, mobol doesn't use pointers or suffer from memory leaks in the way you mean.

Well, check this log:

The River Gaelin flows past both to the north and to the west. To the east, the

If I after the "Sieve what soil?" message drop a new bucket the old bucket has effectively disappeared. In this way I can make as many buckets as I want disappear.

When it says "sieve what soil" you want to just wait a half second and type "sieve soil" again. the soil is still there even when the bucket is not showing on the ground anymore. so just be patient and try sieving again WITHOUT dropping another bucket.

If, however, you drop another bucket then it will erase whatever you have done, same with handing another gem to the gemcutter, when you start a new mobol it erases whatever was done, so you dont want to do that, you just want to repeat whatever action it didnt let you do once or twice until it lets you. If it really irritates you having to repeat things you can make a trigger that will send it again if it doesnt work.

There is also the opposite bug, where the sieving process begins but the bucket is not consumed:

Code: Select all

On the West Bank of a Slow River
A slow, very broad river flows to the east of here. This river is the
source of the water that makes this area so damp. The air is humid, in part
due to the many trees that shade these banks from the sun during the day
and from the winds that could carry the moist air away.

I never find any gemstones when this happens so I guess it can't be abused. However, it happens almost all the time so prospecting becomes very tedious.

It happened today again at the washing place north of Tar Valon. I could successfully "sieve soil" without there being any bucket present. Fortunately, the other washing places worked properly.
