Gate of the Crashing Waves
The massive gates of the east are made of slabs of granite as thick as half
a wagon, and three stories tall. Carved into the surface of the gates are
two huge pictorials of a stormy sea coast, the waves tipped with bits of
white quartz. The body of the wave is made up of chips of lapis lazuli, a
stone prized for its rich and pure deep blue color. Perched above the gate
is a small tower that looks over the city and the surrounding countryside.
