Should Dougan be able to do this?

Post by Sarinda » Tue Feb 17, 2026 1:48 am

So, strictly speaking the room I landed in here is not an instant death trap, but within seconds it pulled me into one despite having a canoe in my inventory. I have never seen this before and wondering if this is a bug, and if so, whether I could get my gear back? Really annoying way to lose a full kit.

You are using:
<used as light> a mirrored lantern
<worn on finger> a gold ring

<worn on head> a fine linen riding hood
<worn around neck> a shimmering pendant of obsidian

<worn on arms> a red fringed shawl
<worn on hands> a pair of slim riding gloves
<worn around wrist> a jeweled wristcuff
<worn around wrist> a jeweled wristcuff
<worn as shield> a silver etched shield
<wielded> a ruby-worked rapier
<worn about waist> a belt with a buckle of cuendillar
<worn on belt> a small purse
<worn on belt> a shiny copper dagger
<worn on legs> a divided riding skirt
<worn on feet> a set of soft velvet slippers

This is not a bug, just very bad luck and (as you admitted not being familiar with this room) lack of zone knowledge.

Understood, and I don’t have any qualms with that decision. From a player perspective, having a room with automatic forced movement into a DT, even if the movement only happens once per tick, feels very unfun. :( if I could make a suggestion, it would be decreasing or removing the frequency of that forced movement.

The room description did make me chuckle.

My understanding was that it was made impossible to be hurricaned into a DT, but we maintained the ability to be hurricaned onto water. If that's the intended behavior, I think being able to be hurricaned into a place with forced movement into a DT ...somewhat violates that principle. I would be more amenable to zone knowledge being an answer if Sarinda had walked into the DT rather than pushed into it with little time to react.

I appreciate your thoughtful discussion.

Sarinda, I agree that it is unfun to experience. Based on the log, everything was going fine. You were prepared with a canoe, you were beating Dougan to a pulp. Suddenly, you get hurricaned, and land on water. But you have your canoe! Then shortly later you plummet to your death. I can sympathize with you there as I know I have DTed on my mortals in absurd ways.

I do not want to reveal the exact mechanism or too much about how it works. I suggest taking some time to examine the room and test it out to see if you can figure out how it works. It is most definitely zone knowledge, but it is beyond just knowing that the room adjacent is a death trap.

Hey, at least we can’t misport onto water anymore. We can’t misfade onto water anymore either, right? Right guys? :x
