Losing qps on rent

Post by Draz » Fri Jul 01, 2022 9:49 pm

Hi all;

I think I've lost between 40-200 qps due to mobs charging me, when they're in their originating zone, when i rent, die, quit, idle rent etc.
In this specific case I logged on, led the mob, had my moblead break so couldn't re-lead it, and on a whim checked qps before and after rent.

I tried to put together a log last time I went to post this when I found 10+ instances over 2 days.. but its a huge amount of information and hard to verify what's relevant or not

Does anyone have a specific breakdown of when and how r8 moblead breaks, and when it costs qps? Or is there a simple way to look at qp charges (qps charged due to mob rip, qps charged due to mob rip, etc?)

If your mob dies out of its home zone, or you quit out/rent while it is out of its home zone, you lose QPs (and the mob wanders off, dropping all its gear).

Most frequent reason to see moblead break on LS is rats/ravens (does not always seem consistent on the # it takes to break the moblead). Can also break it sometimes with extra horses lead.

Thanks man,

Yeah so indicated in this log it was in home zone, and didn't do the wander off thing

I've honestly only ever seen that once or twice.

I remember the following from old mastermobs:

To not lose qps:
Order mob follow name to get it to follow.
Go back to the same zone you got it from and "ungroup" and it will not cost qps. The same zone being the exact same zone, not just all zones in TV coordinates, for example.

I can't remember exactly wrt crashes. I think it got very confusing because then its zone of origin changed as the game came back on and it auto-followed?

Essentially, I've always seen moblead like a mini-warder bond: when you "lose connection" to your mob either through its death or through disconnecting, always make sure it's in its zone of origin. And be aware of changes in zone of origin if there is a crash and it comes back after.

There is no way to look at qp changes for this, let alone the circumstances of where the mob was and where you were.

Thanks Elysia, really appreciate the response

Yes r8 home zone changes if it follows a mob on a repop (drives me nuts), at reboot/crash as far as I can tell, and also I think if it charged you qps

So has been some examples where for example before I knew about this or it I just lost link I’d lose the mob to idle rent (costing qps, relog, lead the mob, and later return it to its home zone (and lose qps).

It’s not a huge issue as even on days where I lose 10+ qps my buffer is plenty

I’d really love if there was some way to change things so that say rats/ravens or leading horses even didn’t stop you from releading the mob, as that’s caused issues multiple times.

Appreciate the heads up that there isn’t a simple way to track/recoup, and I’m unlikely to take the effort of posting logs unless asked

Does this ONLY happen when you order a mob to lead? such as when you rent and log back on, and order the mob thats still in the room to follow? I have lost at least 8 quest points this week alone from it so I really want to know how it can be avoided.

Feneon: A reminder on mastermobs:

If you are rank 8 there are 3 ways you can lose qps related to your rank 8 mob.

You lead it out of the zone that it spawned in, then ungroup it, and while you're offline it gets killed. (1qp loss)
You lead it outside of the zone that it spawned in, and while it is grouped, you rent somewhere else. (2qp loss)
You lead it outside of the zone that it spawned in, and someone kills it while you're online. (2qp loss)

If you order an issuable mob (at rank 7 or above) to follow you after it's lead is broken, and then you rent without returning that mob to the zone where it spawned, you will lose 2 qps.

We will not reimburse these quest points.
I found that (for rank 7, have no rank 8 problems yet) the 'return to base' command at the barracks works best for avoiding QP loss.

thank you for the quote, I never saw that post (despite looking everywhere for something like it) and didn't realize what was causing the quest point loss, but that appears to be specifically when the mob is being ordered to be led and not when its issued. THAT'S an easy solution then, all we have to do is not order them to follow if mob lead gets broken.

Is it possible to make this so that it gives a warning when the mob-lead is performed that if it dies you will lose quest points? because many masters in-game don't know what is actually making them lose the quest points, and would not keep adventuring with the mob after mob-lead breaks if they knew this.
