Background
The day of her sister's wedding, Lyla accidentally channeled and summoned a storm that lasted two days. Her aunt Chirelle, a former Hunter of the Horn, had enough of the spark to realize what Lyla had done. She explained that Lyla could enroll as a novice in the White Tower, but if she did so, she wouldn't be able to leave until the Tower was done with her.
After a year of traveling (Illian, Lugard, Caemlyn, Whitebridge, Caemlyn again, Tar Valon, Cairhien, Tar Valon again) Lyla finally reached the White Tower and enrolled as a novice. The rest, as they say, is dishtory.
