The story of Elmitsu’s childhood is apocryphal at best, at least insofar as she has relayed it: she burned down a barn; no, she burned down the whole farm; no, a horde of trollocs came down from the Mountains of Dhoom and squeezed her family in the Dark One’s very fist.
The truth, as it happens, is that Elmitsu should not have been in the hayloft with Pietyr. She might have even seen the signal fire in time had she tended the goats as her mother requested. Instead, her family learned their fate as it was nearly upon them. The fire in the barn saved Elmitsu’s life, though not Pietyr’s. She can still see it when she closes her eyes.
