How would you describe the early years of the character?
Aleera's mother and father met while he was transporting ore to market, and seldom left each other's side since. Her father was distant, often away and working, but a stern presence when at home. He is devout in the teachings of the Children of the Light. Her mother was occupied taking care of her and her two brothers (4 and 7 years her junior) and hustling as a part-time weaver. Her mother's presence was an ameliorating one, on the devotion front, but there were no arguments and no discussions when father was home. There was but the one Way, one book, in the house, The Way of the Light.

Aleera grew up in Amadicia, thinking everything was normal and right and would likely have soon be married off. That changed when she was sent to a nearby village for supplies. As the shadows of dusk fell on her return, she was mugged by a group of men, but were not done with her even after taking her coin. She couldn't get away, her path blocked in all directions, and her innate power awakened in the form of bits of ice that went after her attackers. This startled and frightened both her and her attackers, but she recovered her wits more quickly and was able to flee.

With her mother's insistence, she fled far away from Amadicia until she ended up in Tar Valon where Tolza Sedai inducted her into the Novice Book, with novice Elmitsu watching from the side. She has spent her early time in the tower reading up in the Library and trying to close the gap between her childhood education, which was quite limited in her estimation, and what is expected of her in the Tower.
