Ylsa Mezarin

age: 25 years
nationality: Cairhien, now living in and serving Kandor
job:merchant
strength in the One Power: 46 (34)
strongest element: Spirit

description: A pale small Cairhienin, with a strange white strand in the otherwise dark waves of hair. Her small mouth smiles and talks a lot, especially while promoting her wares. A curvy figure dressed for traveling walks with elegance and looks natural on a horseback. Nevertheless, all elegance is gone on a boat, and the pretty pale face turns quickly green due to sickness.

.............................................
Ylsa grew up in a merchant family, distantly related to a minor noble house in Cairhien. A clever girl, with solid mind for business and desire to discover the wolrd. Nevertheless, her parents hoped for her to marry a nobleman and help them climb the social ladder. The hopes of the whole family were crushed, when an Aes Sedai visited Cairhien and announced the family that Ylsa could learn to channel the One Power. For some reason, the Aes Sedai didn't push them much, as she believed Ylsa might never touch the Source unguided, and may never become too strong even if she learnt. The ambitious parents thought otherwise and packed Ylsa immediately.

The life in the White Tower was not unpleasant, it satisfied her curiosity at first. After the first wave of excitement, it became obvious Ylsa would always be one of the weakest channelers there, perhaps not even strong enough to become an Accepted. She might never earn the serpent ring and also the right to travel more freely. The Tower became her prison. She worked hard, but still was severely limited, compared to the stronger novices and any Accepted. The stress of feeling imprisoned without hope of a future was too much. After one of the sleepless nights, she woke up with a strand of white hair.

It took some time, but she was let out with a pouch of Tar Valon marks eventually. She travelled on her own for a while, too cowardly to go back home and bear both the disappointment of her family, that she couldn't become an Aes Sedai, and the prejudices, because she was still a channeler. At first, she tried to contact some other former novices, in hopes of finding a group to belong to. To no success, even those she found never offered such a new sisterhood.

So, she decided to not flaunt her too weak talent much, and instead rely on her other gifts. Searching for a purpose and an opportunity to travel, she joined the Kandori Merchants' Guild. And thus the happiest part of her life began.

As the Apprentice, she used every opportunity to learn from her mentors, especially Master Arston and Master Helgi. She learnt the value of things, the proper conduct of a merchant, how to craft items for sell, and what were the needs of her new nation at the borders of the Blight. And also how to travel much faster all over the continent. She became a very good horse rider, a solid organizer of her travels, but boats still made her uneasy, nervous, or just sick. She still used them, when necessary. She got much better at communicating with various kinds of people. And also met her new best friend, Kairayla.

She's continuing her journey, one trade at a time, every day being an adventure. Perhaps one day, she'll learn the title of a Lady on her own, through her skills.
