In the Classroom
A board of black slate hangs on the wall near the door, suggesting this
room is used as a classroom. The room is plain and windowless and has
enough place to seat thirty students. A dais with a desk sits at the front
of the room, where the Aes Sedai or Accepted teaching the class can sit.

Zone: White Tower Upper Floors
Door west: door
A silver serving platter rests here.
Vala Galanis, Tower Accepted is standing here.
Amilesa the Tower Accepted, Apprentice to the White Ajah is standing here.
Lady Ashlynn Alessandri is standing here.
Robinn Sena, the Journey Accepted is standing here.
Lyla the Wearied Novice is standing here.
Melosa Beshar, Accepted and Apprentice to the Green Ajah is standing here.
Isela Adelwhin, Tower Accepted is standing here.
Katene the Fledgling Novice is standing here.
Maddy Mantear, Journey Accepted is standing here.
Celeste the Fledgling Novice is standing here.
A haughty young woman strides by practicing Aes Sedai serenity.
Celeste spreads the food out on her desk and begins cutting the bread with a small knife.
Amilesa unwrapping the piece of cloth reveals an assortment of pens and writing implements bound by string.
Maddy digs in her bag pulling her note book and 2 pens out. She rips off a page and leans over to give the extra paper and pen to Katene.
Vala gets a fine quill pen from an oilskin bag.
Vala grabs a fine quill pen.
Celeste slices some cheese and meat and places it between the bread to create a sandwich.
Katene says 'thank you Accepted'
Melosa peers at the food on Celeste's desk and then at her.
Maddy beams a smile at Katene.
***Idiotic Yells from Suern*****
Vala snickers softly.
Celeste freezes with the sandwich halfway to her mouth.
Katene looks around nervously.
Amilesa unstoppers a bottle and prepares to take copious notes.
Celeste sets the sandwich down and cuts it in half.
Chloro gracefully glides to the front of the room, Saidar swirling around her. The wicks of the wall lamps bursting into flame as she walks past them, thread thin flows of fire going this way and that. As she reaches the desk, she releases Saidar and looks out to the initiates assembled. "Welcome to "White Tower 102" this lesson will be somewhat interactive."
Celeste offers half to Melosa.
Maddy sits a bit straighter in her chair poised to take notes.
Robinn pulls out her leather-bound notebook and a quill as well as a stoppered bottle of ink and sits, eyes attentive to the Aes Sedai at the front.
Lyla shifts in her seat.
Amilesa's shine brightly as flame light dances across them.
Someone knocks on the door from the other side.
Amilesa's eyes shine brightly as flame light dances across them.
Amilesa opens the door.
Arelis has arrived from the west.
Chloro says 'Vala you will be on door duty.'
Arelis curtseys gracefully.
Vala says 'Yes Chloro Sedai'
Arelis says 'Hello everyone. I apologize for the tardiness.'
Chloro motions Arelis to a seat.
Arelis scurries to the back of the classroom.
Vala gets a sheet of paper from an oilskin bag.
Chloro says 'We will cover your roles in the Tower, what is expected of you going forward and proper conduct aboard. Please keep all questions to the end so we can get through the information as swiftly as possible.'
Maddy smiles softly at Vala, giving her a nod of encouragement
Amilesa looks up at the newly arrived Accepted and silently greets them.
Chloro looks to the blackboard and picks up the pointer stick while deftly flipping the board to a large map of the Tower. "Now this was not covered in orientation but is useful knowledge should Tar Valon fall under attack."
Amilesa shifts her piece of paper closer to the side of the desk nearest the flames.
Amilesa glances at Vala standing ready by the door, nodding in satisfaction.
Chloro points to the novice well on the second floor. "This is the most secure location inside the Tower, outside of the Ajah apartments. It is a fallback point should you need to flee and take shelter."
Arelis takes out a notepad and quill from her shoulder bag.
Amilesa angles herself in the chair to square herself up with her notebook.
Chloro moves the pointer south, "If you should not be able to make it to the well. Sheriam Sedai will raise defense for any Tower member who comes under assault and has the gift of fast weaving. I do not know another Aes Sedai who can sweave as fast as she, except for perhaps Cadsuane Sedai."
Amilesa turns her head to look at the map, suddenly realizing the best angle for the light does not allow her a clear view of the board.
Celeste chews clandestinely.
Chloro moves further down to the first floor towards the east. "If caught on the Tower grounds. The library offers some defense with several Brown Sisters able to come to your aid, however your fallback point would be Coulin Gaidin and his troop of younglings, it is said no one may hide under his eye."
Amilesa writes "weave casting speed" in a clean script clearly at the top of her notebook, placing some smaller, less-readable notes all around it.
Maddy shades her eyes from the sun coming in from the side window, then shifts slightly turning her face from direct contact with the warm rays.
Chloro says 'Finally, if there is no other option, the Ante room of the Amyrlin is guarded as heavily as the vaults beneath us. Leane Sedai and other sisters there will defend you, however there is possibility of entrapment if the force is too large.'
Arelis takes note as it is very useful information.
Chloro nods placing down the pointer and flipping the board back to black. "Now, why do you bend the knee to Aes Sedai. Arelis?"
Maddy lifts pen to paper drawing a map in her book showing the safe places in the Tower in the order Chloro Sedai named them.
Amilesa turns toward where Arelis is sitting, awaiting her response to the Aes Sedai.
Arelis stands up and answers: "It is to show respect, Chloro Sedai."
Arelis looks around and sits back down.
Chloro says 'Partially Accepted. It is to acknowledge the sacrifice these women have made in order to reach the position they have. Every Aes Sedai as given up the chance of a normal quiet life to be of service to the light. Aes Sedai do not take husbands, we do not bear children, we cannot simply sit back and watch time pass.'
Amilesa turns back to focus on the board, and the Aes Sedai still addressing the class.
Arelis nods at Chloro Sedai.
Celeste ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Arelis takes notes.
Celeste nods enthusiastically at the 'no husbands' comment.
Celeste raises her hand.
Vala grins at Celeste.
Arelis giggles.
Arelis looks at Robinn archly.
Robinn apologizes profusely.
Chloro looks out to the Accepted. "Each woman who wears the ring, has bound herself to this path. Each woman who wears the ring has faced her fears and passed a test that not all survive."
Melosa nods.
Celeste lowers her hand.
Robinn nods serenely.
Amilesa bends down to pick up a pen off the floor, reaching over to offer it to Robinn.
Chloro says 'Celeste please hold your question till the end, there will be ample time for questions.'
Celeste scribbles down a question for later.
Arelis beams a smile at Amilesa.
Robinn takes the offered pen with a murmured thanks.
Maddy looks at her ring and smiles, remembering.
Amilesa absently turns the ring on her finger until it had completed three circuits.
Chloro says 'Now Novices, your life is hard, and that is for a reason. To prepare you for what may come, if we view you at a later date ready to be tested within the three arches. It will take every ounce of strength and inner wisdom you have to make it through.'
Chloro says 'You are expected to do chores, put out food for the less fortunate, and seek lessons from both Aes Sedai and Tower Accepted. You may also seek tutoring from Journeymen Accepted.'
Chloro says 'Journey Accepted, you have successfully emerged from the Arches, and if you thought your life as a novice hard, then you will think that of an Accepted even harder.'
Maddy nods in agreement.
Vala nods in agreement.
Arelis nods in agreement.
Chloro says 'Accepted have a little more freedom but are expected to attend Aes Sedai when called. Your every action is seen by one Full sister or another.
Robinn nods her agreement, a small smile gracing her features.
Arelis nods in agreement.
Melosa nods, her face serious.
Chloro says 'Both Journeyman and Tower Accepted are expected to take lessons with all seven Ajahs if sisters are available to teach. '
Ashlynn stretches her arms, expensive jewelry dangling on her wrists. She leans up against the wall in the back of the classroom.
Amilesa places a single sheet of paper next to her notebook, grabbing a piece of flat wood before grabbing some wood-encased graphite.
Chloro says 'You are expected to be seen if you wish to gain mentors. Many speak of one specific mentor that will guide and teach you in the ways of an Ajah after you make a choice. A well rounded Accepted will have several.'
Amilesa uses the guide to draw precise lines that intersect one another.
Arelis takes note as she whispers: "What is she doing?" looking towards Amilesa with a smile.
Maddy continues to listen carefully as she begins to draw a horse in her notes where Master Coulin's safe spot is shown.
Chloro says 'Mentors are not picked by you, but an Aes Sedai that sees potential in an Accepted may choose to offer lessons. Outside of this you are expected to approach Aes Sedai for lessons. Be it in the halls, by pigeon (forum mail) or otherwise. Keep in mind Aes Sedai have very busy lives and may not be available when you reach out to them. Do not approach all full sisters at once. Your ability to pick and choose is as much an asset to you as your ability to navigate the halls of the Tower.'
Lyla glances over at Amilesa's paper.
Melosa murmurs softly, 'The Great Game'
Maddy grins at Melosa.
Arelis grins at Melosa.
Chloro picks up on Melosa's murmur and looks to her. "Speak clearer child, for the whole class to hear."
Amilesa starts to connect the now-drawn boxes together with smaller lines, some smaller boxes rest in the middle of some.
Vala keeps eyeing the door.
Robinn snickers mischievously.
Melosa says 'Ah Chloro Sedai.'
Melosa says 'To navigate the halls of Thw'
Melosa says 'To navigate the halls of the Tower is simply another form of politics is it not?'
Melosa smiles slightly
Amilesa looks up at the board once more, before marking it with letters at keys in certain boxes.
Maddy nods at Melosa.
Melosa says 'That brought to my mind, the Great Game.'
Chloro says 'Indeed it is, thank you Melosa.'
Chloro walks at an even gait stopping next to Amilesa's desk, looking the Accepted directly in the eyes, her own exotic grays impassive. "Child since you seem to have enough time to doodle, you must have vast knowledge on the great game."
Chloro says 'Amelisa Please inform the class what the great game is and the basics of how it is played.'
Amilesa says 'I agree, Aes Sedai. I think best when my hands are busy.'
Ashlynn drinks dark beer from a dented tankard.
Arelis chuckles quietly.
Ashlynn gets a basted turkey leg from a silver serving platter.
Ashlynn eats a basted turkey leg.
Katene cocks her head curiously at Amelisa
Robinn glances at Amilesa while taking notes.
Amilesa says 'The Great Game is a term coined for manipulations and schemes played by those with power or influence to gain more of both.'
Amilesa says 'The basics are like any game, like stones...'
Chloro nods, walking back to the front of the room motioning for Amilesa to continue.
Amilesa says 'You first take account of the pieces you have on the board and the ones you have left to play.'
Arelis whispers to Melosa:"Amilesa was drawing the entire Kingdom over there." as she looks back to the front of the classroom.
Amilesa says 'You anticipate the moves that your opponents are likely to make, and account for them in your next move.'
Amilesa continues to absently fill out the floorplan of the Tower, matching what is on the board.
Chloro looks to the class "Isela you are apprenticed to my Red sisters, yes?"
Isela nods at you.
Chloro says 'Speak up child, please.'
Isela says 'I am Chloro Sedai.'
Chloro says 'Can you tell me which Ajah would be the polar opposite of the Red?'
Amilesa looks to her side, curious if the answer was acceptable.
Isela says, 'The Green, Chloro Sedai.'
Celeste ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Melosa considers Isela's words.
Chloro says 'Would it be beneficial for an Accepted seeking a Red shawl to learn from Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah?'
Robinn nods serenely.
Maddy nods in agreement.
Amilesa blinks her eyes, refocusing as she looks at the rest of the class.
Isela says, 'It would be beneficial for an Accepted to learn from all Ajahs, Chloro Sedai.'
Arelis nods to herself as Chloro Sedai makes a great point while jotting it down on her notepad.
Ashlynn drinks dark beer from a dented tankard.
Chloro smiles warmly nodding. "You have paid attention too well I think in your lessons. The great game is played by Accepted as much as it is Aes Sedai. Seeking the shawl is akin to running for a political office."
Isela allows a small smile.
Maddy notates Daes Dae'mar - The Great Game or Game of Houses in her book.
Maddy dips and blots her pen, looking up to the front of the class ready to jot down the next points.
Katene ponders a question to herself.
Ashlynn looks at Katene.
Robinn sprinkles a bit of sand on her notes before continuing.
Chloro says 'All seven Ajahs raise a girl to the shawl when they deem her ready. This means All seven Ajahs will require work and skill for which they can judge you in their own respects. Melosa is apprenticed to the Green Ajah, Isela to the red. Should they one day claim their goal, they would be primarily battle sisters on the front lines. However, I, an Aes Sedai would also expect them to have skill in politics to ensure they do not ensnare themselves in a trap while out in the world.'
Vala nods in agreement.
Ashlynn says 'And likewise, if I may add, I would expect them to understand basic battlefield Healing, should they need to render aid during battle.'
Arelis nods at Ashlynn.
Chloro says 'As you can see each sister may require a certain amount of skill in a subject. That is why Accepted train for nearly a decade before being ready.'
Arelis nods at you.
Amilesa glances around the room, a thoughtful look on her face as she looks from one girl to the next.
Robinn glances at Ashlynn Sedai, adjusting her glasses and smiling at her before returning to her notes.
Ashlynn looks at Robinn.
Chloro says 'We must ensure they are ready to serve the moment a shawl is placed upon their shoulders. I can remember the day Everesta Sedai had a Gray shawl placed on her shoulders. She went from the Hall after kneeling before the Amyrlin directly into a tower under attack by a fiend trying to slit throats.'
Katene nods her head now in understanding.
Ashlynn gets a mutton shank from a silver serving platter.
Ashlynn eats a mutton shank.
Ashlynn drinks dark beer from a dented tankard.
Chloro says 'She wore a Gray shawl but fought as hard as any Green or Red. In the end she and Jocelyn Sedai were able to eliminate the threat.'
Maddy jots a note to seek out Ashlynn Sedai at a later date with some questions that have been brewing in her mind.
Ashlynn studies Robinn closely, making a mental note of her beautiful choice in necklaces.
Choro says 'Everesta Sedai did not have a day, a week, a month, to get used to the shawl. The burden is taken up the moment it is placed on a woman's shoulders.'
Chloro says 'Now in regards to apprenticeship.'
Arelis nods as her eyes widened as she listens enthusiastically to Chloro Sedai's story of the previous Sedai.
Chloro says 'If you have found in your heart of hearts the Ajah you hope to one day join, you would send word via a letter (forum mail) to that chosen Ajah requesting apprenticeship. Along with the reason as to why you would be a candidate and you’re reasoning for stepping onto this path.'
Robinn makes a small note to seek out Everesta Sedai should she get a chance.
Chloro says 'Are there any questions on seeking apprenticeship before we move forward?'
Ashlynn drinks dark beer from a dented tankard.
Robinn raises a hand.
Arelis shakes her head as she is very clear on what has been spoken and explained thus far.
Chloro says 'Robinn?'
Maddy taps her pen on her chin, leaving a small ink stain, as she digests the words Chloro Sedai has said.
Katene realizes that she has SO much more to learn than just channeling.
Robinn says 'Chloro Sedai, do you have any advice for those seeking to make that choice?'
Arelis sneakily weaves a single thread of air and softly, taps Maddy on her left shoulder where Amilesa sits.
Chloro nods and points to another board collecting dust with the seven colors of the Ajahs upon it. "I would encourage you to read through a copy of Ajahs in the last battle. I may teach it in the near future but remember this is a choice that will stick with you for the next 200-300 years."
Chloro says 'I would also encourage you to seek out the Tower Accepted within this room, each is either currently apprenticed or seeking apprenticeship.'
Robinn nods, a warm smile on her features.
Maddy turns slowly and smiles at Arelis.
Vala nods in agreement.
Robinn says, 'Thank you Chloro Sedai.'
Arelis smiles back at Maddy as she feels that Maddy did not fall for the prank.
Chloro says 'I would also say to speak with Aes Sedai, you will get a clearer picture from them without sugar coating.'
Arelis nods at you.
Chloro says 'Now, this part is for the Accepted, but will benefit the novices should they one day wear the ring.'
Chloro says 'Traveling abroad. '
Amilesa draws seven small, stylized teardrops along certain boxes.
Ashlynn looks down in her empty tankard with a frown.
Chloro says 'Arelis, in which city is it a criminal offense to hold a light ball?'
Celeste sips from the cup.
Robinn snickers mischievously.
Arelis stands up and answers: "In Tear, Chloro Sedai" as she sits back down.
Amilesa looks toward the answering Accepted, graphite held mid-way in the air.
Chloro says 'Correct, it is actually an offense to channel within the city of Tear. '
Arelis nods at you.
Katene gasps in astonishment.
Chloro says 'Robinn, in which City can you be thrown in the clank for holding a weapon?'
Robinn says, 'Far Madding, Chloro Sedai.'
Amilesa frowns as the easy questions are given to others.
Chloro looks to Isela, "This is a trick question dear, name one nation in which the children of the light will not physically attack an Aes Sedai."
Isela strokes her chin thoughtfully.
Arelis raises her hand.
Isela says 'Shienar, Chloro Sedai'
Arelis notices it was meant towards Isela and puts her hand down.
Robinn gets a plate of kippered eel from a silver serving platter.
Chloro says 'Correct, can anyone name the other?'
Robinn raises her hand tentatively.
Amilesa raises her hand.
Chloro says 'Amilesa?'
Amilesa says 'Would Far Madding count, considering the earlier-mentioned law?'
Amilesa says 'Or Cairhien, where all fighting is outlawed except their own law keeping?'
Robinn considers Amilesa's answer
Vala strokes her chin thoughtfully.
Celeste says 'It seems to me all these answers are wrong'
Chloro says 'You must remove your weapons in Far Madding, and within we are not able channel. Which nation would cost the Children dearly if they Attacked an Aes Sedai. I will give you a hint. A queen sits on its throne.'
Maddy looks to Celeste hoping for further clarification.
Robinn smiles brightly, raising her hand once more.
Arelis looks at Celeste with awe.
Chloro says 'Robinn?'
Celeste blushes when she realizes people are looking at her.
Robinn says 'Our nearest allied nation of Andor, Chloro Sedai.'
Chloro says 'Correct Both Andor and Shienar stay neutral to the animosity between the Children of the Light and the White Tower.'
Chloro says 'A word to those who do travel. The laws of Tar Valon only exist within our borders. Once you leave them, you are governed by the nation you are traveling in. A copy of the laws of the nations is available in the library.'
Amilesa puts away her now-complete map of the tower, complete with annotations from the first part of the lesson.
Katene wonders why it was a trick question?
Arelis nods at Chloro Sedai.
Celeste whispers something to Katene.
Chloro says 'Now to the Tower Accepted.'
Melosa smiles slightly.
Celeste whispers something to Katene.
Amilesa looks at Maddy.
Ashlynn gets a loaf of crusty fresh bread from a silver serving platter.
Ashlynn eats a loaf of crusty fresh bread.
Katene nods at Celeste.
Maddy feels Amilesa's gaze and looks up from her notes to flash her a quick smile.
Chloro says 'You have trained with myself and my sisters for decades. We have poured the knowledge of our lives and experiences into you. I expect a Tower Accepted to be taking up as much of the burden as is possible in their station. Regardless of Ajah apprenticeship. You are expected to tutor those below your station, patrol the north and south, and defend Tar Valon should it fall under attack. This is while you still seek training from all seven Ajahs.'
Amilesa gives back a small smile as she listens to the rest of the lesson.
Chloro says 'Remember, until a shawl of a specific color graces your shoulders. All Ajahs lay claim to your training and development.'
Chloro says 'Now to recap.'
Arelis nods in total agreement with Chloro Sedai.
Robinn absently pushes her glasses back up her nose as she continues taking notes.
Amilesa writes down a few notes in her notebook with her pen.
Chloro says 'Novices may seek tutoring from any Accepted, and lessons from any Aes Sedai. Be polite, be patient. Accepted are expected to take lessons with all seven ajahs and help to develop the novices towards when would come next for them. It is fresher in your minds, the tole it takes to pass through the three Arches.'
Amilesa's elbow jostles a wood-encased piece of graphite, causing it to slowly roll across the desk.
Maddy leans over quickly to catch the graphite before it falls off the desk only to have it stop just prior to dropping.
Chloro says 'Tower Accepted, you are expected to take up as much of the burden of a full sister as you are able within your restrictions. A wise Red once told me, “To be anywhere near being viewed to be ready, Aes Sedai should recognize you adding to the tower nearly as much as they do."'
Robinn leans over and catches the wooden writing implement without more than a glance before offering it back to Amilesa with a small smile, eyes twinkling behind their lenses.
Chloro says 'Now, before we end, are there any questions on the topics we discussed? Or in general?'
Amilesa looks up from finishing her latest sentence to find two nearby Accepted grasping pencils.
Celeste raises her hand.
Lyla raises her hand.
Chloro says 'Celeste'
Celeste says 'Aes Sedai, you said earlier that Sisters do not have children'
Amilesa reaches into her bag to pull out another pencil of her own as she shakes her head no.
Celeste says 'But I've read in the library that there were once many Aes Sedai queens'
Celeste says 'Surely they were expected to.....you know... propagate '
Maddy looks to Celeste and back to Chloro Sedai with interest.
Celeste twists her mouth in distaste.
Chloro quirks her eyebrow, "Was that the exact verbiage I used?"
Celeste says in a tolerable Chloro Sedai impression 'we do not bear children'
Robinn mouths the word 'propagate' with a small smile.
Lyla snickers, then covers it with a quiet cough.
Ashlynn covers her mouth, hiding a small snicker.
Arelis giggles discreetly.
Celeste says 'I suppose the word bare is somewhat ambiguous'
Amilesa taps the graphite to her cheek, a small smudge forming on her skin.
Chloro says 'Correct, Aes Sedai today do not bear children, many things have been lost to us over the years. There was a time that the three oaths did not exist. '
Celeste says 'It could mean you can’t stand children'
Maddy quickly looks down at her notes hoping Chloro Sedai is not offended by the impression.
Celeste scribbles a note to find out when the Three Oaths began.
Amilesa offers 'Perhaps they did not disrobe children?
Lyla looks at Amilesa archly.
Arelis looks at Celeste.
Chloro motions with her hands for the class to quiet down.
Maddy looks up giving Chloro Sedai her full attention.
Chloro says 'Aes Sedai must be masters of their own emotions, we are unsure the implications of pregnancy now for some who could wield Saidar. What if the woman lost her mind in a hormonal imbalance and injured someone? '
Maddy puts her hand up
Chloro says 'If children is what you wish, children you would birth, then the path of Aes Sedai is not for you.'
Amilesa looks to her left and then to her right.
Chloro says 'Lyla I believe you were next.'
A lantern held by Maddy is definitely fading.
Robinn eyes Maddy's lantern dubiously.
Katene looks at Lyla
Lyla says 'When did you decide you wanted to join the Gray Ajah, Chloro Sedai? Was it while you were an Accepted? Or even earlier?'
Chloro looks at Ashlynn sharing a knowing gleam in her eye. "It may come as a shock to you, but i did not originally think I would be on the Gray path."
Chloro says 'When I came to the tower, and during my years as a novice I imagined a blue shawl on my shoulders one day.'
Maddy bends down in embarrassment to pick up the burnt lantern to put in her pack to discard later.
Katene gets a mirrored lantern from a backpack.
Katene gives a mirrored lantern to Maddy.
Katene beams a smile at Maddy.
Maddy smiles at Katene and mouths' Thank you.'
Arelis looks up at hearing Chloro Sedai mention "Blue Shawl".
Katene smiles happily.
Chloro says 'However, then I was exposed to the work of the Gray Ajah and realized I could do more for the Tower, ensuring my sisters could travel freely, and when the Last battle comes, would have an army of nations at their back. You see there are only subtle differences between the Gray and the Blue.'
Vala nods in agreement.
Choro says 'Maddy your question?'
Maddy says 'It was a comment back to the idea of an Aes Sedai having children'
Chloro says 'Proceed with caution Accepted.'
Maddy says 'What if it did happen and the child born was male and the gift was passed to them. It would be hard for the Aes Sedai to make that decision.'
Vala nods at Maddy.
Maddy says 'So best to not put yourself in that place.'
Robinn nods in agreement.
Chloro says 'Many variables come in to play for a woman without the ability to channel having a child. Now add Saidar into it, the addictive, powerful and often destructive force. What outcome would there be? Some variables are sealed to the shawl.'
Maddy nods at Chloro Sedai.
Chloro says 'For now some must return to lessons so I will take roll.'
