Tissaya the wearied novice's chance encounter with Lady Lisette, Sedai

Post by rfh1985 » Sat Jul 05, 2025 1:58 pm

Tower Square
This side of the square is the southern section of the Tower Square.
In the center is the walled off White Tower. To the south a large
boulevard opens up leading to the Southharbor. To the north you see
the southern gate of the Tower grounds. The square continues east
and west.
A large banner rests here, depicting a map of Tar Valon.
A marble bench, flecked with gold and bronze, adorns the floor.
An oil lamp, set in a steel cage, hangs from a high wooden pole.
An elaborately sculpted marble fountain splashes merrily.
A stout wooden barrel stands nearby.
A Tower Guard watches for signs of trouble.

Lisette has arrived from the west, riding a warhorse.

Tissaya curtseys to her audience.

Lisette says 'Good morning, child.'

Tissaya says 'Hello Lady Lisette, Sedai'

The temperature is about 40 degrees.
The sky is rainy, and a breezy wind comes from the north.

Lightning starts to show in the sky.

Tissaya says 'How are you this rainy day?'

Tissaya shivers uncomfortably.

Lisette says 'I am well. How go your studies?'

Tissaya says 'I was just reviewing the Ajah halls. Books sorted. Dishes washed.'

Lisette says 'If you had to do a single chore only for ten years, what might it
be, and why?'

The fountain splashes merrily, light sparkling beautifully on the surface of the
water.

Tissaya ponders life, the universe, and everything.

The rain stops.

Tissaya says 'I would like to say cooking. That way I can always sample the many
fine ingredients and could survive the monotony with variety of foods.

Lisette says 'In interesting answer, but I'm not sure Mistrass Laras might
approve of the sampling. I suppose so long as the larders are stocked she might
overlook it.'

Tissaya smiles happily.

Lisette says 'Have you found any particular books in the library that draw your
attention?'

Tissaya says 'Sorry I didn't realize the question pertained to a chore in the tower.
I certainly wouldn't risk upsetting her.'

Lisette says 'Quite alright child, I was not specific, and not at all worried
about upsetting theoretical entities.'

The clouds disappear.

Tissaya says 'I saw a few on the old tongue, and have no idea what they might
involve.'

Lisette says 'Not widely used anymore, except the occasional word here and
there. I understand it flows strongly in the blood of the Two Rivers, once
Manetheran. Perhaps once you have the right to travel again you might spend some
time learning and speaking with folk from there.'

The sun sets, washing the city in fiery colors.

Tissaya says 'I would love to travel again! I've learned so much but I think sheer
desire to travel might give me the strength to pass the arches.'

Lisette says 'The rules can feel constricting at times, but it really is for
your own good, so you can learn the ins and outs of Saidar in a safe
environment.'

The night has begun.

Tissaya nods in agreement.

Lisette says 'I trust you are practicing with simple weaves and not overtaxing
yourself?'

Tissaya says 'I know I am not to channel into objects, not to hold the source too
long, and not to exhaust past fading with the source.'

Lisette says 'All good things to remember and continue to follow into your late
years.'

Tissaya says 'I also know I am not to use the source beyond a controllable level.
And to never use it to harm another person except in defense of myself'

Lisette says 'Have there been any weaves that are troublesome, or unclear as to
the purpose?'

Tissaya says 'Well there are some that I have shied away from because of my lack of
ability to travel. The travel spell I haven't used but I have practice locate
object. They seem to work well hand in hand?'

Tissaya says 'I read that the travel spell needs to be more proficient than the
locate spell to get good results. Or you could end up somewhere else.'

It starts to rain.

Lisette says 'I think you have read correctly, if you are able to locate an
object too far away, and are not learned enough in the Travel weave, you can
fail and mis-Travel.'

Tissaya nods in agreement.

Tissaya says 'That is what I read but I do not know if there are certain "cut offs"
per se'

Lisette says 'Few people utilize Traveling at length these days, as it can be
difficult to concentrate and end up in the right place when flushed from
battle.'

Tissaya nods in agreement.

Lisette says 'But it has been studied at length in the past, so the books you
have read are likely much more thorough than my personal efforts.'

A warhorse lays its ears flat against its neck.

Tissaya says 'I guess that's where I get confused as to the locate life or object
uses. They seem bent on spell locations and hard for me to interpret.'

Lisette says 'The Gate weave, now, that is still used fairly often for expedient
movement of lots of people.'

Tissaya nods in agreement.

Tissaya says 'I dont believe I am allowed to learn gate at my current level'

Tissaya says 'I would like to try that as well. I figured better to experiment on
myself before groups? '

Lisette says 'Locating an object or person gives you a sense of direction,
radiating outward from your current location. However, it follows the natural
essence of the land, if you will, and is not always quite as direct as
expected.'

Tissaya nods in agreement.

Lisette says 'Certainly. The Gate weave poses a great danger to others, not just
yourself, and you always want to be certain you have gotten the right
destination before allowing others to pass through.'

Tissaya says 'I practiced earlier today when they were hunting a trolloc alphamael.
They said he carried a heron. And it just said somewhere very far north of
here.'

Lisette says 'That is the main reason its use has been restricted. In an
untrained hand, it can be very dangerous.'

Tissaya nods in agreement.

Lisette says 'It is good to practice and get a sense of bearing with the
locating weaves, though harder to do alone.'

Lisette says 'If you find a willing partner, you can have them move around as
you practice and gain bearing of the lands layout.'

Lisette says 'Very far north of hear, for example, is in the Borderlands just
north of Fal Dara, but can be a few different areas.'

Tissaya says 'I saw some logs about them, but it wasn't entirely clear if there was a
point where distance did not significantly increase with training'

The sun casts a golden glow over the city.

Lisette says 'That is correct, at some point no matter how proficient the
distance is too great.'

Tissaya says 'it seemed like the best you could do was maybe an average of a city to
city distance'

The day has begun.

Lisette says 'I would guess it is a bit more than that, but I suppose it depends
on the cities in question.'

Tissaya nods in agreement.

Lisette says 'For example, though, it is possible to locate something or someone
from Fal Dara all the way up to the trolloc Ruined Keep, or just outside it.'

Lisette says 'The Ruined Keep itself is protected by the Shadow from such
channeling.'

Lisette says 'As are other various locations across the world, due to Steddings,
ter'angreal, and other anomalies.'

Tissaya says 'I hope I'm not perserverating too much on the same topic, but does a
locate object only handle one word of an object?'

Tissaya drinks the water.

Lisette says 'Yes, you must be very specific in your target.'

Lisette says 'Sometimes, you may also want to use uncommon names for objects, to
narrow your search.'

Lisette says 'The number of items you can find at once has a maximum, and the
more generic an object name used, the more results that may dilute your search.'

Tissaya says 'so a search for heron rather than a search for sword for example? you
could not locate "heron-marked longsword'?'

Lisette says 'No, as long as the item you are looking for is commonly referred
to by a name, searching just that simple name will work.'

Tissaya nods in agreement.

Lisette says 'Heron-marked longswords, heron mark swords, heron marked
greatswords, all will respond to a search for heron.'

Lisette says 'But as you said, if you use sword, it may find many other objects
you do not care about.'

Lisette says 'Many guards in cities use swords of lesser quality than a heron
blade.'

Tissaya says 'And is there a maximum amount of items that would return in that
instance? so that you would not find an item maybe in range just from
exhaustion of lesser items?'

Lisette says 'A lesser used variant by many, items of a rare or unique quality
can also be located using those identifies.'

Lisette nods at Tissaya.

Lisette says 'If you try locating rings around Tar Valon, for example, you will
drown your results with the rings required to be worn by Accepted and above.'

Tissaya senses Lisette connecting to the True Source.

Tissaya senses Lisette is channeling saidar.

Tissaya nods in agreement.

Tissaya says 'the great serpent ring'

Lisette says 'When I locate rings, right now, I can sense about 20 in the city,
roughly, and only 4 outside the city, but I am certain there are more than that
in the surrounding areas.'

Tissaya nods in agreement.

Tissaya feels the flows of saidar coursing through her body.

Tissaya begins to weave the appropriate flows...

Lisette says 'I am not certain, as I have not personally done testing, if there
is a logic built in from the Pattern as to how the results come to the person
channeling the weave.'

Lisette says 'Do you always find the same items, in the same order? Does the
physical location in proximity to you always yield the same results, et cetera.'

Tissaya nods in agreement.

Lisette says 'Probably worth asking a Brown sister for some time if you wish to
learn that level of detail.'

Lisette says 'My most common use personally as part of the Battle Ajah is to
find Shadowspawn to hunt.'

Lisette says 'Which tends to be fairly straightforward.'

Tissaya says 'Speaking of browns. I read that they have a whole extra section of
the library?'

Tissaya says 'I noticed two rooms east of the sedai bookshelves. I also read there
is a 13th section?'

Tissaya says 'Only the Amyrlin and brown sitter can enter? I may be missing someone
else?'

Lisette says 'I am not personally aware, but then I have not spent much time in
the library for many years. There is the restricted section, but beyond that you
would have to see if a Brown can shed more light.'

A warhorse pricks its ears forward and looks alert.
The sun sets, washing the city in fiery colors.

Tissaya nods in agreement.

Tissaya says 'I also noticed a novice in the restricted section obsessed on pranks'

The night has begun.

Lisette frowns.

Tissaya says 'golden haired...and I saw one drenched with water right near the novice
quarters. I wanted to ask how it happened to her, but I just trodded on.'

Lisette says 'An occasional harmless prank is second nature to Tower initiates
over the years, to help alleviate the stress of studies, but to obsess over
something so benign diverts attention from our true purpose, to serve the
world.'

Tissaya nods in agreement.

The sky starts to get cloudy.

Tissaya says 'That is part of the old tongue I learned that Aes Sedai means servant
to all'

Lisette says 'Indeed it does. We all aim to serve in a way that suits our
nature, hence the selection of an Ajah as you gain the shawl.'

Tissaya says 'The age of legends seems to have been a glorious time. Hard to imagine
in these times.'

Lisette says 'Not everyone is created to act the same, but we all can play a
better to better humanity.'

Tissaya smiles happily.

Lisette says 'Unfortunately so much is lost from that time, that we may be
ing at it through rose-colored glasses as well.'

Lisette says 'Not many people tend to write stories about the mundane, the
routine hardship of a time, instead focusing on the extraordinairy.'

Lisette says 'It may not have been that much different from a life of chores
your currently experience, until your learning progresses.'

Tissaya nods in agreement.

Tissaya says 'I would hope no one would want to read a story on my life thus far, but I hope to make it interesting some day!'

Lisette says 'And on that note, child, I have to take my leave, and will let you
return to your studies or chores, whichever suits.'

Tissaya says 'Thank you for your time, Lady Lisette, Sedai!'

Lisette says 'Tackle the first steps, and I'm sure you will find something more
interesting down the path.'

Lisette says 'Have a fruitful rest of your day, child.'

Lisette leaves west riding a warhorse.
