An impromptu lesson with Accepted Vala

Tower Square
This side of the square is the southern section of the Tower Square.
In the center is the walled off White Tower. To the south a large
boulevard opens up leading to the Southharbor. To the north you see
the southern gate of the Tower grounds. The square continues east
and west.
A large banner rests here, depicting a map of Tar Valon.
A marble bench, flecked with gold and bronze, adorns the floor.
An oil lamp, set in a steel cage, hangs from a high wooden pole.
An elaborately sculpted marble fountain splashes merrily.
A stout wooden barrel stands nearby.
Vala Galanis, Tower Accepted is standing here.
A mangy cat scurries around trying not to get stepped on.
A Tower Guard watches for signs of trouble.
An ageless woman is here, appearing distracted.
A gray palfrey has arrived from the east.
A chicken has arrived from the east.

Katene says 'Hello Accepted Vala.'

Vala says 'Hello Novice. How goes your studies?'

Katene says 'I'm glad you asked.'

Katene says 'Have you ever looked at the Wisdom skills?'

Katene says 'Is it worth learning if I were to aspire to the Yellow Ajah?'

Vala says 'That depends on whether you want to mix potions.'

Katene says 'I was thinking that it may be good to have potions as well as weaves.'

Vala says 'It is. Sometimes you can't channel at all, or you can't spare the energy for it.'

Katene says 'That was my thought.'

Vala says 'You might be too busy in combat, or you might wish to help someone who doesn't want any weaves.'

Katene says 'I was going to ask Ashlynn Sedai or Etain Sedai their thoughts as well. Thank you for your perspective.'

Vala says 'I try to keep one of each on me, because I can't cure those things with weaves at all.'

Vala says 'I don't mix either but sometimes buy potions in shops.'

Vala says 'Can you do the Hollows without getting touched by a spider?'

Katene says 'Yes'

Katene says 'I can fight 3 at a time without getting touched'

Vala says 'oh, I meant not catch any aggro at all'

Katene says 'Oh, no. They still attack'

Vala says 'I'll show you how, this is important for when you want to blind mobs'

Katene says 'Oh, that could be very helpful. Thank you.'

Vala says 'or you need to pop in and loot, or whatever reason don't wanna catch aggro'

Vala says 'there are 6 "aggro pulses" every tic... you may have seen someone order a chicken to sit down'

Katene says 'I have not'

Vala says 'when it stands, that's when a mob would attack'

Katene says 'Oh, that's neat.'

Vala says 'you have up to 10 secs to do something'

Vala says 'see some did not attack until one moved here'

Katene says 'so when the chicken stands, go to the room cast blind, then retreat?'

Katene says 'neat trick'

Vala says 'yes just like you saw me do'

Vala says 'It's important to pay attention to small details like this.'

Vala says 'the spider cave here is great practice for timing your moves'

Katene says 'I only have two moves though. '

Katene says 'well, I do have blind as well.'

Vala says 'I've used aggro pulse timing to pass mobs I don't want to fight, and avoid shadoweyes as well.'

Katene says 'Shadoweyes?'

Vala says 'rats, etc'

Katene says 'Ok, thought that's what you meant.'

Vala says 'They follow you on the same aggro pulses other mobs attack.'

Vala says 'Anyway that's a super useful trick I use all the time.'

Katene says 'thank you. That will be very helpful'

Vala says 'You also don't exactly need a chicken. You can guess but that's risky.'

Vala says 'There are some smobs where if I get bashed trying to blind them, I'm done for. This is a lifesaver.'

Vala says 'I'd like you to practice using the timer and/or a chicken to avoid the spiders when you go loot the chests.'

Katene says 'I will. Thank you for the lesson.'

Vala says 'You'll have to go in and out a couple times to unlock one, open and loot it'

Vala says 'it's great practice'

Katene says 'will it work if I go in, blind one and jump back out. Do that to all of them in the room, or is blind too slow'

Vala says 'sure, can also practice blinding'

Vala says 'you can do whatever for like 8 secs'

Katene says 'I will practice both methods Accepted Vala.'

Vala says 'loot your corpse for example'

Vala says 'Another thing many are eager to do is Travel. Have you tried it?'

Vala says 'I don't recommend it as a Novice, you have to be very careful not to misport away.'

Katene says 'I have learned the weave, but have not yet attempted it. I was told I may accidently go outside my area.'

Vala says 'locate object, chest'

Vala says 'you see 5 around here, 4 are the same and one different'

Katene says 'I do see 5 of them, but they are all different'

Katene says 'locations anyway.'

Vala says '"an old chest" is upstairs in the Brown wing, 5x "a chest" are the ones we just

Vala says 'sorry, 4x'

Vala says 'where is the one to the southeast?'

Katene says 'the old chest?'

Katene says 'not certain. I think it is out of my area though.'

Vala says 'Southeast of here is Cairhien, the chest is in The Great Tree inn.'

Vala says 'You can practice locating all kinds of stuff and compare it to the Leylines Map, have you seen that?'

Katene says 'I do not believe so.'

Vala says 'It's a little out of date by now, but still invaluable.'

Vala says 'someone posted a copy on tower discord document channel, 1/29/22'

Katene says 'I see it'

Vala says 'Liia Sedai made a fancy spreadsheet for locates and gave a class on it. I wasn't awake then but read the log and became confused so I haven't tried it yet. I'm still using this map and it's a great start.'

Katene says 'I will have to use it, should I ever elevate to Accepted.'

Vala says 'You can use it now, to practice locating things and get a feel for what's around that you can sense.'

Vala says 'If you locate a dagger or a skin on a trolloc you can see roughly where he is.'

Katene says 'I've done rings and other trinkets.'

Katene says 'Ashlynn Sedai recommended I practice that to get an understanding of the distances. Also the distance map in Disc. Documents.'

Vala says 'pack, ring, dagger, potion, skin, all kinds of stuff'

Katene says 'I believe the higher your practiced skill, the further you can sense. Is that correct?'

Vala says 'Yes, and locate should be slightly higher than travel so you don't attempt to travel too far.'

Vala says 'wait no'

Vala says 'travel should be higher'

Katene says 'that makes sense'

Vala says 'let's say you locate something very far or extremely far away'

Vala says 'if your travel skill isn't high enough to reach it you could misport'

Vala says 'This is a good stopping point, I'm going to go eat something, and I'd be happy to continue with
locates/travel another time'

Katene says 'Thank you Accepted Vala.'

Bakkus stands up.

Katene says 'How are you today sir?'

Bakkus says 'Sorry for interrupting, I’m doing quite fine thank you for asking, and how do you both fare?'
