Echoes of the past (part 2)

Post by Lorrah » Sat Jul 06, 2024 11:44 am

Seeking more information a newly-discovered Talent uncovered while having a personal lesson with Sitter Ashlynn of the Yellow Ajah, Lorrah decides to approach other Ajahs. Fortunately, Alison Sedai of the While Ajah is resting at the fountain in Tar Valon, which is too good an opportunity to miss.

A flatbed wagon rocks back and forth on spoked wheels.
A marble bench, flecked with gold and bronze, adorns the floor.
An oil lamp, set in a steel cage, hangs from a high wooden pole.
An elaborately sculpted marble fountain splashes merrily.
A stout wooden barrel stands nearby.

curt Alison
You curtsey before her.

Alison says 'Holla '

You say 'Hi Alison Sedai'

Alison says 'Greetings, last time we talked , you where novice.'

Lorrah gives a twirl.

You say 'yep!'

Alison says 'sit, tell me something i don't know. '

Lorrah settles down beside Alison.

Stares into the distance vaguely as she considers the point.

You say 'Overlook and oversee are opposites.'

Ashlynn has arrived from the north.

Alison greets Ashlynn with a light kiss on her cheek.

Ashlynn greets Alison with a light kiss on her cheek.

Ashlynn says 'Hello sister'

curt Ashlynn
You curtsey before her.

Ashlynn looks at you.

Ashlynn says 'Hello Accepted'

You smile at her.

Alison says 'Hi, Ashlynn.'

You say 'Hi Ashlynn Sedai.'

Alison says 'What do you mean, Lorrah?'

You say 'It's just a strange point that two words that seems almost identical mean opposite things.'

You say 'Overlook, to miss'

You say 'Oversee, to watch over'

Alison says 'I bet the one who used overlook to describe oversee, found it wasn't fitting for oversee so they created oversee.'

You nod in agreement.

You say 'Would you be able to help me with something Ashlynn Sedai discovered?'

Alison says 'Elaborate'

You say 'Seemingly, while delving, I had some unexpected results...'

You say 'Ashlynn Sedai suggested seeing the Browns, but perhaps the White might also help shed light?'

Ashlynn says 'The best way to put it, sister, is that she was able to... Sort of see from the point of view of the...object.'

Alison says 'Ah.'

Alison picks up a rock

Ashlynn says 'I had never heard of such a thing before. Foretelling, sure, but that's different.'

You say 'Yes. While delving an inanimate object, rather than seeing the component parts, I saw the source of the material. For a wooden bucket, for example, I saw it as a tree.'

Alison says 'Well fundamentally we all made of the same energy.'

Alison says 'You saw its before?'

Alison says 'As its current shape does not show you it was a tree.'

You say 'aye. Well, to be more accurate, I experienced being chopped down.'

Brrrrrrrrr.

Alison says 'ah yes.'

Alison says 'Well there is a thing called muscle memory'

Alison says 'where a part of your body will remember to d o something it was taught.'

You nod in agreement.

Alison says 'So in a way if a cup was traumatically muscle memories, then its possible its imprinted in its parts.'

Alison says 'Kind of like reading the rings of a tree to estimate its life.'

Alison says 'Did you try other objects?'

You say 'Ashlynn Sedai also showed me a key, which seemed to be almost directing me in what it was for. I could, like the bucket, see how it was formed and where the metal came from, but then it game me a sensation of 'purpose'.'

Alison says 'Thus you are reading the sum. I doubt anyone else can to such an extend.'

Lorrah thinks back.

You say '"To go north, first you must go south" is what it was telling me. I still can't puzzle out the meaning.'

Alison says 'Easy'

Lorrah perks up.

Alison says 'There is a puzzle that you put on your fingers.'

Alison says 'If you pull it, it tightens, you have to push two fingers closer to each other to unlock it.'

Alison says 'So if you are in a passage, part facing north and part facing south, going south will unlock the north.'

Alison says 'Like a spring on a wagon.'

You say 'Hmm. Interesting.'

Alison says 'This reminds me of the Karaeathon cycle.'

Alison says 'I am very sure that is a puzzle.'

Alison says 'Twice and twice he will be marked..'

Alison says 'which is 4 if you multiply it.'

Alison says 'I have to reread it, but i remember thinking that one can use that to deduce who it is before he is known.'

You say 'Would the wheel stop if an event failed to occur? Or would people make it fit anyway?'

Alison says 'By your logic, it cant fail'

Alison says 'Some events will happen, just your perception of how they happen, might not fall into

Alison says 'You think something along the lines of him being born might happen there in Andor or north. But births happens daily.'

Alison says 'Thus the event occurs, your perception doesn't allow it to occur for you.'

Alison says 'or'

Alison says 'i can say i am marked, thus being Aes Sedai. I cannot lie. thus i am now marked, Alison Sedai of the white Ajah'

You nod in agreement.

Alison says 'Sometimes uttering the statement makes it truth.'

Alison says 'The Seanchan's customs come to mind.'

Alison says 'Some words can be literal. '

You say 'The prophesy will fit. I suppose that explains the number of false Dragons, as they would mistakenly see 'signs' that they were the one.'

Alison says 'Getting back to your hidden talent. Write down all you experience from each object. Then study what you learn to uncover if it has a need to be revealed or just some casual information.'

You nod in agreement.

Alison says 'odds are there is millions of lost talents that will find a way to come back.'

Alison says 'Like singing metal into form. What is up with that?'

You say 'Is that even possible? Like Ogier with trees?!'

Lorrah taps her lip thoughtfully.

Alison says 'Or the river bends its will to those who say it will.'

Alison says 'Or change the purpose of an object to become an angreal, ter'angreal or sa'angreal'

Alison says 'have you ever seen a master blacksmith smithing?'

Alison says 'Its pure.. almost like they have a talent to reshape it.'

Alison says 'We'll we do things with the 5 elements.'

Alison says 'That to those that don't do it, seems magical'

Lorrah considers Alison's point.

Alison says 'For us, going on 400 years myself. I find it natural to warm my bathwater.'

Alison says 'I shall not bath in cold water.'

Alison says 'Thus having a lost talent is celebrated.'

Alison says 'Cultivate it. You might help the Browns find answers in treasures they uncovered.'

You say 'I think I need to speak to the Brown Ajah now.

Alison nods in agreement.

You say 'Really interesting having the perspective of the White and Yellow, but perhaps there is something in the library on this?'

Alison says 'I suspect that those that have a lost talent, some wont talk bout it. Like having a brilliant idea and then just dismissing it.'

You feel the flows of Saidar coursing through your body.

Lorrah closes here eyes in concentration, and channels a tight braid of spirit into the rock, which starts glowing blue.

Brrrrrrrrr.

Alison says 'I found it in the blight.'

Alison stares at the almost pure white stone in mid air.

'Like being squeezed!'

You nod at her.

Alison says 'For example. Shoes, boots. It disconnects you from the earth.'

Alison says 'somewhere in the past, someone decided that is a good thing'

Alison pulls of her boots and lets her feet touch the ground.

Alison says 'Who knows if that is where the word grounded comes from.'

Lorrah copies Alison, taking off her boots..

Alison says 'Here is a question for you'

Alison holds out her sabre in front of the floating stone.

Ashlynn looks at Alison.

Alison says 'Do you think weapons hold the memories of those it attacks?'

You say 'with your permission Alison Sedai?'

Alison says 'Go ahead.'

Lorrah channels a tight braid of spirit into the sword, which glows blue.

Lorrah closes her eyes.

Lorrah releases the source and shakes her head.

You say 'No, It doesn't remember.

Alison whispers quietly, 'It does.

Alison pulls out a glass out of her pack

Alison says 'Look at the blade..'

Alison says 'Through this'

Alison shows you the glass, its oddly shaped.

Lorrah picks up the glass, and peers through it.

You say 'Oh! There are tiny bits of... is that blood?'

Alison says 'Go in closer to the edge. No matter how much i clean it, parts of those that got hit with this is still edged inside it.'

Alison says 'Thus technically, it has memories.'

Alison says 'I have yet to find something tiny enough to pry out bits and pieces.'

Lorrah gives the glass back to Alison.

Lorrah frowns, before weaving earth and fire into her helmet to remove a dent.

Alison says 'Everything has parts of something else. '

You nod in agreement.

Alison says 'If i destroy this weapon and make a cup from it. The cup will have those bits as well.'

Alison sheathes her sabre, and she releases the stone to drop into her left hand.

You say 'Perhaps it's based on the magnitude of the event, rather than the event itself?'

Alison says 'Well yes and no'

You say 'For example, if objects picked up the memory of everything they 'killed', your shoes would be screaming with the memory of every beetle and bug you stepped on.'

Alison says 'Yes if the event is detrimental to the objects existence, then yes. But no if the event is minor in the flow of time.'

Alison says 'What about the ones i ate? Some bugs are tasty.'

Alison grins evilly.

You say 'If that sword killed a rabbit or deer, it might not have the same impact as killing one of the forsaken.'

Alison says 'Sometimes following the logic down into all its paths, might lead to answers you don't want.'

Lorrah taps her tooth with a fingernail, thinking.

Alison says 'It has killed. Simply put i use it as a tool that it was made for.'

You say 'Conversely, not following the path to get to an answer might mean the conclusion is flawed.'

Alison says 'or you logic applied to said conclusion has not enough variables to give you the correct conclusion.'

You nod in agreement.

You say 'need more data.'

Alison says 'You will never have all of it. sometimes, just enough is good enough.'

You say 'Unless you're wrong!'

Alison says 'Hah'

Briza has arrived from the north, riding a gray palfrey.

Briza curtseys gracefully.

Ashlynn looks at Briza.

Alison says 'One persons wrong is another persons puzzle.'

Alison says 'Hello briza.'

Briza says 'Hello Alison Sedai, Ashlynn Sedai'

Alison says 'I ask you this, Lorrah. Do you think there is absolute right and absolute wrong?'

You say 'No, I think absolutes are unachievable.'

Alison says 'Good.'

You say 'It's all perspective.'

You say 'If i think I am in the right, then my action will be right. An example would be Children of the Light.'

Alison says 'Those that deal in absolutes deal in what they cannot understand.'

Briza nods slightly, seemingly trying very hard to follow along.

Alison says 'To label something as absolute right or wrong removes further analyses or logic to be applied to it.'

Briza shivers uncomfortably.

Alison says 'I once debated a child of light'

You cuddle her.

Briza smiles happily.

Alison says 'Suffice it to say, said child of light told me in private that i made him question his faith.'

Briza explodes with whistles and cheers.

Briza says 'I am glad at least one Child of Light is able to see reason'

Alison says 'if you engage me in debate. You must understand that what i bring is all of my mind to the debate.'

Briza says 'I had a fair experience with Child Eadmund, at Fal Dara. He was courteous enough in his refusal of Healing'

Alison says 'did you offer healing without the one power?'

Briza frowns.

Alison pats the fountain, showing the Accepteds to sit.

Alison says 'My neck is straining, sit.'

Briza says 'I'm afraid I am less than skilled at that, Alison Sedai - I would not think to offer something that would not have a positive effect.'

Lorrah settles back down on the fountain.

Briza sits down on a bench.

Alison says 'Rather never tell that to a wisdom.'

Alison says 'A bandage on a wound can heal just as well as the one power. To a lesser degree.'

Alison says 'If the child refuses one power, offer lesser degree assistance.'

Briza says 'I will certainly give thought to putting some training hours towards Healing without the One Power..'

Ashlynn nods at Alison.

Ashlynn says 'I am actually working on putting together a class about that.'

Alison says 'I would like to attend that.'

You say 'Honey. My aunt swore by it for stopping infection.'

Alison says 'or dirt'

Alison says 'Dirt can stop an infection on an open wound.'

Alison says 'Or mud.'

Alison says 'you can even make a splint from mud.'

Lorrah looks sideways at Alison Sedai.

Briza boggles at that.

Alison says 'girl, you havent lived 400 years.'

Briza ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Alison says 'When you reach that. Ill introduce you to Melyssan Sedai.'

A gambler scowls darkly.
A gambler says 'Never trust an Aes Sedai.'

Briza gasps in astonishment.

Briza shakes her head at a gambler.

Ashlynn says 'A splint from mud, that's a new one. Unless you dry it, I suppose.'

Alison says 'Yes'

Briza says 'I'd be afraid of the rain getting to it and softening it..'

Alison says 'I've seen huts with mud on it, that when dried has strong bonds. Thus it will work for splinting.'

Lorrah takes notes in a neat hand, finishing each sentence with a flourish.

Alison says 'Not if you add calk to it. Its a white plant that can be mixed into it. Speak to the farmers, some in Emonds field uses it.'

Briza nods, clearly enlightened by this information.

Alison says 'Logic can be applied almost everywhere. Except in the heart. emotions seem to rule there.'

Briza says 'Emond's Field... I'd hope to travel there someday. It's quite close to the boundaries of the Journey Accepted'

Alison says 'i chased spawn past my boundaries. I was told to stay in Tar Valon for a few weeks. And do dishes.'

Briza cringes in terror!

Alison pales slightly at washing dishes..

Alison says 'My logic.'

Alison says 'The spawn needed to die.'

Briza clutches her purse.

Alison says 'The Aes Sedai at the time was not amused.'

A gambler scowls darkly.
A gambler says 'Never trust an Aes Sedai.'

Lorrah murmurs about never trusting a light-blinded gambler.

Alison snickers softly.

Briza says 'The guide book was very clear about not being any exceptions... I certainly would not want to be in breach of any rules'

Alison says 'And yet, there is some rules that is broken without anyone fining out, no?'

Briza looks around slowly, as though something is hidden in the room.

Ashlynn says 'I am sure Alison can tell you more about that, but part of playing an Aes Sedai sometimes requires you to... figure out ways to skirt about the rules.'

Alison says 'Like accepted attempting to gate. Without letting others know.'

Alison says 'That's my point.'

Briza blinks, her eyes widening.

Alison says 'What is there is not always there.'

Ashlynn says 'For one example, say there is someone in Mayene in desperate need of Healing, someone that works closely with us to provide...things.'

Ashlynn says 'Well, aren't we banished from Mayene now?'

Alison says 'Are we.'

Briza says 'I believe I've recently read a post that we have improved our relationship with the Winged Guard.. Am I mistaken?'

Ashlynn says 'That's not to say you should look for ways to dance around the rules, just that in some instances, you will face your own moral dilemma and have to make a decision.'

Briza ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Alison says 'The grey Ajah is working on it.'

Ashlynn says 'I haven't heard anything. I may have missed some reports or notices.'

Ashlynn nods at Alison.

Ashlynn says 'That's what I understand. It is being worked on.'

Alison says 'Like well baked cookies. One must wait for the oven to finish its task'

Briza says 'I do hope we succeed.. I would very much enjoy visiting the different cities.'

Ashlynn says 'I have no doubts that the Tower will succeed.'

Briza nods in agreement.

Alison says 'Briza, did Lorrah tell you about her lost talent?'

Briza smiles excitedly.

You shake your head.

Alison skips her white stone in her left hand.

Briza says 'No I don't believe she has'

Briza says 'What is your lost talent, Lorrah?'

You say 'Ashlynn Sedai was showing me delving and things took and unexpected turn.'

Briza says 'Oh I'm not familiar with delving. Is that something to do with caves?'

Lorrah glances at Ashlynn Sedai.

Ashlynn says 'No Briza...'

Ashlynn says 'Delving is a technique, a weave of spirit, that allows you to investigate objects and people.'

Ashlynn says 'You can use it to determine their composition, find faults, any number of things.'

Ashlynn says 'We use it to investigate angreal and ter'angreal. '

Ashlynn says 'We use it to diagnose bodily systems.'

Ashlynn says 'To enable better use of Healing.'

Briza blushes - clearly embarrassed at having revealed the extent of her knowledge.

Ashlynn says 'Perhaps I can give you a lesson some time.'

Briza says 'I would very much like that, Ashlynn Sedail.'

Briza says 'How did it take an unexpected turn, Lorrah?'

You say 'Well...'

You say 'I ended up seeing the objects past, rather than it's composition.'

You say 'It was a strange sensation. I'm talking to relevant Ajahs to understand it now.'

Briza says 'Oh! How interesting...'

Briza says 'What was the object?'

Briza pauses, eyes widening with anticipation.

You say 'Two objects were tested. A bucket and a key.'

Briza says 'I do hope it wasn't an unpleasant experience..'

You say 'The bucket was!. I was the tree being chopped down that eventually got turned into the bucket.'

You say 'Thankfully, I stopped before the sawmill...'

Brrrrrrrrr.

Briza says 'Oh dear!!'

Briza cringes in terror!

You say 'With your permission?'

Alison nods in agreement.

Lorrah channels flows of spirit in a tight and complex braid into Briza's dress, which glows blue.

Lorrah closes her eyes.

Briza says 'Eek!'

You say 'ow, that IS nice!'

You say 'I'm in a field full of flowers!'

You say 'they're all pink!'

Briza looks at Lorrah in wonder!

Lorrah opens here eyes and releases the flows.

You hug her.

You say 'much better than the bucket.'

Briza says 'I'm glad something of mine has helped!'

You smile happily.

Briza says 'I would hope to learn this technique soon... I would love to see the histories behind objects'

Alison says 'Though could you imagine what would be the next level of that talent?'

Alison says 'Seeing the path of what an object will take? Example that sword made of glass?'

You ponder life, the universe, and everything.

Briza says 'We are able to see what an object will... do in the future?'

Briza boggles at that.

You say 'IS there a future?'

You say 'It's a wheel, so isn't the future the past as well?'

Alison says 'Well'

Alison says 'Predicting events is not a lost talent. Its a form of logic.'

Chloro has arrived from the north.

curt Chloro
You curtsey before her.

Alison greets Chloro with a light kiss on her cheek.

Chloro inclines her head in greeting to you.

Chloro greets Alison with a light kiss on her cheek.

Alison says 'What was will be again.'

Briza furrows her brow. Clearly she has a lot of reading to catch up on.

Chloro greets Ashlynn with a light kiss on her cheek.

Briza clambers to her feet.

Briza curtseys before Chloro.

Briza says 'Hello Chloro Sedai'

Chloro inclines her head in greeting to Briza.

Chloro says 'Good morning all, Light illumine you.'

Alison says 'Thus the step after that would be to apply logic to an item.'

Alison says 'bread knife is made, bread will be cut.'

Alison says 'Simple logic.'

Briza says 'We were just discussing Delving, Chloro Sedai'

Alison says 'Novice, accepted, to Aes Sedai.. paths are sometimes set. '

Chloro looks to Alison. "The basis of how every Aes Sedai learns to weave words. Simple logic. I have used it quite a bit of late."

You say 'We were inquiring about the Grey Ajah's negotiations with Meyene earlier.'

Ashlynn says 'That might not be the best choice of words, Accepted.'

Alison says 'delving the situation from the Grey Ajah..'

Briza blinks her eyes innocently.

You say 'Oh, have I erred Ashlynn Sedai? If so I beg forgiveness.'

Chloro takes on a predatory grin her eyes sparkling. "Curiosity has lead to many road blocks and even death. Be sure you are willing to pay the price of a curious mind before you ask a delving question."

Ashlynn says 'We were discussing Alison Sedai's history as an initiate, in particular an event where she was fighting Shadowspawn outside of her boundaries. That led to a discussion about rules and the possibility of...finding or making loopholes, skirting those rules, and that led to a
mention of the current climate with Mayene.'

Ashlynn says 'How she believed that she was right to do so, while still receiving some sort of penance. A lot of dish washing I believe.'

Briza nods at Ashlynn.

Briza cringes in terror!

Lorrah winces.

Briza rubs her fingers absentmindedly.

Alison says 'Read your own statement and see if that pertains to what we talked about..'

Giuseppe has arrived from the south.

Chloro allows her face to return to a mask of serene calm. "Each of us wearing the shawl have made our choices, or sometimes been forced to them. I am sure we all have stories that would make you blush."

Giuseppe blinks his eyes innocently.

Giuseppe intakes a sharp breath before all the women turn to him.

Giuseppe panics, and attempts to flee!
Giuseppe leaves west. <<

Alison says 'Well i still believe that spawn needs to die.'

Briza nods at Alison.

Alison says 'And skirting that boundary and what followed was cementing my logic on that day'

Briza says 'I dare say I would have done the same, Alison Sedai'

Briza says 'In the heat of the moment, I would find it difficult to recall the exact wording of the handbook.'

Alison says 'As for the Mayene situation. Best to wait for the outcome.'

Briza says 'I will be hopeful for a positive one - I would hope the Mayeners would see reason'

Alison says 'Do you know asking questions is similar to delving?'

Chloro smiles to her White sister, "I think they are missing the branch theory Sister. They seem very intent no the consequences of the action, instead of what would have happened if action had not been taken?"

Alison says 'Agreed.'

Lorrah tears the last page out of her notebook and tosses it covertly behind her, reducing the sheet to ash with a thin flow of fire and air.

Lorrah suddenly look suspiciously innocent.

Alison ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Briza furrows her brow, intently trying to remember her studies.

Alison says 'What questions you two accepted have for me?'

Alison says 'Pertaining to my Ajah of course.'

Alison grins evilly.

Briza says 'What do the White Ajah do generally?'

Alison says 'Think'

Alison says 'Yes we think a lot.'

Briza says 'I understand the Green Ajah fight, the Yellow Ajah Heal, the Brown Ajah research, the Red Ajah search for male channelers...'

Alison says 'Well.'

Alison says 'Lets take my two sisters here.'

Alison says 'Both love their emotions.'

Briza smiles happily.

Alison says 'Grey find an issue that requires a clear mind.'

Alison says 'Throw the issue at Alison Sedai.'

Chloro continues listening as she allows her shawl to slip down to the crook of her arms hanging flow against her waist.

Alison says 'WHere i take that issue and run it through my logic, mind, analyses and run its course in different outcomes.'

Alison grins evilly.

Briza nods, clearly enlightened.

Alison says 'i present a hypothesis to my sister. Thus enabling her to see a different point of view to her situation.'

Alison says 'I can make decisions and find answers without my heart trying to control me.'

Alison says 'Then the rest of my time, i seek out puzzles, situations and ways to improve my skills in analyses and mathematics.'

Briza says 'I understand, thank you Alison Sedai - It is truly helpful to be able to think about a situation without emotion.'

Alison says 'Using my mind is my drive.'

You say 'Would you say your analytical mind and decision making came after you joined your Ajah Alison Sedai?'

Alison shakes her head.

Alison points to each persons centre.

Alison says 'Everyone has a core of who they are.'

You nod in agreement.

Alison says 'Being a healer, you must have an inner core to help. '

Draz bows deeply.

Alison says 'Being a grey you need to have a core to be there for others.'

Alison says 'Being white you need a sharp mind above your emotions. Even before you become white Ajah.'

'Ergo, your decision under discussion earlier was taken in full knowledge of the consequence? You say 'Ergo, your decision under discussion earlier was taken in full knowledge of the consequence?'

Draz snaps to attention and salutes grandly.

Alison beams a smile at Draz.

Draz says 'seems you are busy Aes Sedai, I'll leave you to it for now, I have a letter to pen.'

Alison says 'One cannot know all knowledge, but an educated guess works a hell of a lot better when you have trained your mind to find answers that seems educated to others, but sometimes its pretty remarkable based in logic.'

Briza nods at Alison.

Alison says 'also we meditate'

Alison says 'Which is basically organizing our mind to work better.'

Chloro looks to both Accepted.

Chloro leans in close to her white sister.

Briza nods, clearly enlightened.

Chloro whispers something to Alison.

Giuseppe chats 'are you no longer in trouble'

Alison nods in agreement.

Alison says 'Truth, sister. I have not see my two in ages. And now a third is attempting to join as well.'

Chloro raises her let eyebrow ever so slightly. "A third, well this is news."

Briza blinks her eyes innocently.

Alison says 'Yes. And there is one Alison.'

Alison points at herself with a left hand.

Alison says 'Maybe i should have all three. Then white numbers will increase/'

Chloro says 'Perhaps the pattern now requires more logical minds, certainly in the south.'

Alison says 'Imagine shawling three in one day..'

You say 'With your permission Aes Sedai, My bottom has an imprint of the fountain forming on it...'

Alison nods in agreement.

Lorrah stretches, and curtseys to all present.

Alison says 'You may have a good day.'

Briza says 'I must say I have a new appreciation for the White Ajah, Alison Sedai, thank you for that explanation'
