The Mistress of Novices' Study
This is a compact, dark-paneled room full of plain sturdy furnishings that
have been used by generations of women who have held this office. The desk
near the center of the room is plainly made and heavily worn through years
of use. A large mirror with flaking gilt hangs from one of the walls. Used
for switching disobedient initiates, as well as Aes Sedai who do penance, a
bench-like contraption that has a padded leather cushion to kneel on, as
well as a padded leather area to lean on. A selection of switches, ranging
from a slender willow switch to a slipper lie on a table nearby.

A large desk made of fine, thick wood stands across the room from here.
Sheriam the Mistress of Novices studies you with a stern expression.

Melosa says 'Thank you for coming so quickly, Lorrah'

Lorrah says 'how can I help Accepted?'

Melosa says 'I've been meaning to speak to you earlier. My studies just managed to free up somewhat'

Lorrah suddenly looks suspiciously innocent.

Melosa says 'I make it a habit to speak with all those new to the Tower whenever possible. Understand more about them and offer any small help or guidance'

Lorrah looks on in rapt admiration.

Melosa says 'Let me introduce myself first as I've been travelling a fair bit.'

Melosa says 'I am Melosa Beshar, Accepted and Apprentice to the Green Ajah'

Melosa says 'Raised and born in Murandy but now of the White Tower of course.'

Lorrah says 'i have heard of you. You're so brave!'

Lorrah blushes.

Melosa tuts disapprovingly.

Melosa says 'Stories often have a way of getting ahead of themselves.'

Melosa says 'I am who I am and nothing more'

Lorrah says 'We all are as the Wheels wills.'

Melosa says 'Indeed.'

Melosa says 'So tell me more about yourself, Lorrah and how you've come to be in the Tower?'

Lorrah says 'I left home looking for adventure. My father was a saddlemaker, but I never got the
hang of it, preferring metalworking'

Melosa says 'Where is home?'

Lorrah says 'Kandor'

Lorrah says 'Lots of adventure up there, but dangerous! So, I thought I'd try the southlands'

Melosa says 'A dangerous place but less so in recent years. The Saldaeans have done the Light's work in holding back the Blight Border. Although I have
heard that some parts of the Blight has spread into the Great Forest.'

Melosa tuts disapprovingly.

Lorrah nods at Melosa.

Lorrah says 'Yes, the blight creeps ever southward'

Lorrah says 'Near Watch Hill, I met this lovely woman, Karrigan or something'

Lorrah says 'This Kardigan lady told me I could channel of all things. Didn't believe her
at first, but after a few drinks I thought i'd try.'

Lorrah says 'And she was right...'

Lorrah says 'so, I came here to learn to control it'

Lorrah nods to herself, she must need reassurance.

Melosa says 'So a wilder then?'

Lorrah says 'well, I hadn't channeled before she said anything, and she is Aes Sedai'

Lorrah says 'so, if that counts as a wilder, them I guess'

Melosa frowns.

Melosa says 'I have not heard of a Karrigan Sedai'

Lorrah says 'She wore the Great Serpent ring'

Lorrah nods to herself, she must need reassurance.

Melosa says 'Did she now?'

Lorrah nods at Melosa.

Melosa says slowly, 'Well then, she must be an Aes Sedai that has not returned to the Tower in a while.
Perhaps I shall ask around about her well being.'

Melosa says 'Do continue.'

Lorrah says 'Well, that was it. Came here, and enrolled.'

Lorrah says 'I like it. Learning a lot about weaves, and everyone's nice'

Lorrah murmurs, 'Dishes, not so much...'

Melosa says 'How have your classes been? Have you the chance to take instruction from any of the
Accepteds or Aes Sedai?'

Lorrah says 'I took orientation!'

Melosa nods.

Lorrah says 'No classes have been organised when I've been awake, so other than that, no.'

Melosa says 'You should seek out Aes Sedai for private instruction when you can'

Melosa says 'Every Aes Sedai has something that you can learn from.'

Melosa says 'For myself, I had learnt much from Sarinda Sedai as a novice on weaves in battle'

Melosa says 'Alison Sedai is also a most interesting thinker.'

Melosa says 'Very much the stream of consciousness philosopher'

Melosa smiles to herself at the recollection.

Melosa says 'And I was fortunate also to take classes with Chloro Sedai on diplomacy.'

Lorrah listens attentively.

Lorrah says 'I am busy doing my chores, but if I see any, I shall.'

Lorrah says 'I am hoping, once I reach Accepted - I'll have a better idea of where I'm best placed
in the Tower'

Lorrah raises her chin, determinedly.

Melosa frowns.

Melosa says 'I am of the view that learning and reflection starts from the first day you take on novice
whites.'

Melosa says 'Passing the Arches is but a small part of that journey'

Lorrah says 'well, if learning includes dusty books and dishes, I'm well on the road to
enlightenment.'

Lorrah nods to herself, she must need reassurance.

Melosa says 'Chores about the Tower need to be done'

Melosa says 'See that as part of being a novice. You should however not neglect your learning'

Melosa says 'And on that, how goes your training in the One Power?'

Melosa says 'Are you able to embrace the Source at will?'

Lorrah says 'Yes'

Melosa senses Lorrah connecting to the True Source.

Lorrah says 'It gets easier every day'

Melosa nods slowly.

Melosa says with some degree of disdain, 'Most wilders come to us with some form of a block.'

Melosa says 'Rare are those who channel freely'

Lorrah smiles happily.

Melosa says 'Also know this in the event that no one has mentioned this to you before.'

Lorrah pays attention.

Melosa says 'Speaking of another's strength in the One Power is one of the greatest rudeness in the
Tower.'

Lorrah nods at Melosa.

Melosa says 'Show me the simplest weave you have learnt thus far.'

Lorrah says 'With your permission Accepted?'

Melosa nods at Lorrah.

Melosa senses Lorrah connecting to the True Source.

Melosa says 'Continue please.'

Melosa senses Lorrah is channeling saidar.

Lorrah leans closer. Melosa feels a healing power flow from her hands.
Melosa feels better!

Melosa takes note of Lorrah's awkward weaving.

Melosa says 'Some more practice is required but acceptable at this point.'

Lorrah says 'Thank you Accepted!'

Melosa says 'Perhaps a parting note for you'

Melosa says 'I myself took almost half a year to reach where you are today - being able to embrace freely.'

Melosa says 'Many long nights of practice in trying to embrace the One Power, learning to compose weaves
of Air and Fire to light a candle.'

Melosa says 'Make sure that you apply yourself and make the most of your natural potential that has been given to you.'

Melosa says 'Make it your next task to seek out at least two Aes Sedai'

Lorrah nods in agreement.

Melosa says 'And ask them for any task or instruction they may have'

Lorrah says 'I shall, Accepted.'

Lorrah curtseys gracefully.

Melosa says 'Very well. Let us speak again soon'

Melosa says 'Keep up the hard work.'

Lorrah nods determinedly.

Melosa says 'You are dismissed.'
