A Tutorial on Fine(r) Control of the One Power

Post by melosa » Fri Jan 05, 2024 1:19 am

Study of the Brown Ajah
[ obvious exits: S ]
Zone: White Tower Upper Floors
Door south: door
A large desk made of fine, thick wood stands across the room from here.
Lady Callesa al'Riean is standing here.
A silver-haired Aes Sedai sits here, reading.
A Brown Sister is here, frowning pensively.
Danelle Sedai, sitter for the Brown Ajah stands here deep in thought.

Callesa gestures at the door with her hand.

Melosa curtseys before her.

The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.

Callesa looks at Melosa.

Melosa says 'Good evening Callesa Sedai'

Callesa says 'Good evening, you are one of the new ones, aren't you?'

Melosa says 'Yes'

Melosa smiles happily.

Callesa says 'I see you've already learnt some basics.'

Callesa glances at your light ball

Callesa says 'A very useful weaves, it doesn't endanger the books like the candles do'

Melosa says 'Yes Callesa Sedai'

Callesa says 'What have you been reading lately?'

Callesa peers closely at Melosa; she should guard her secrets carefully...

Melosa says 'I am learning a bit more about Fire'

Callesa nods in agreement.

Melosa says 'Ah I've been reading up about the histories'

Melosa says 'Spending time in the Great Library'

Callesa says 'That is a wiiiiide subject. Which part of the history have you been focusing on?'

Melosa says 'About the Breaking and the War of Power with Pevara Sedai of the Red Ajah'

Callesa nods in agreement.

Melosa says 'A bit on the Trolloc Wars as well'

Callesa says 'Yes, all good subjects to study.'

Callesa says 'I wish we knew much more about the Breaking and the Age before.'

Melosa says 'As you said, it is a long and wide subject'

Callesa ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Callesa says 'Sooo, Fire. Is that your strongest Element?'

Callesa looks at you curiously.

Melosa says 'I am still learning, Callesa Sedai...'

Melosa says 'I do not think that I have a particular affinity for any Element'

Melosa giggles.

Callesa says 'I wasn't asking whether you were particularily skilled already, Novice.'

Callesa says 'Rather whether any affinity has already shown in your case.'

Callesa says 'Sisters strong in Fire are rare indeed, they are often attracted to both the fighting
Ajahs.'

Melosa nods in agreement.

Callesa carefully looks around at all the paper, books, notes, and more paper lying around.

Callesa says 'I don't think we should practice Fire in here.'

Callesa says 'But some Air could help with dusting, and perhaps refresh Sister Danelle.'

Melosa smiles happily.

Callesa walks quickly to a nearby shelf and takes out a huge wooden bowl half filled with silvery
sand.

Callesa says 'This sand was brought from the Aiel Waste, I find it finer than most and therefore
useful for beginner practice.'

Melosa nods in agreement.

Callesa says 'Using the One Power efficiently is not only about strenght.'

Melosa says 'Helpful for putting out any accidents'

Melosa coughs loudly.

Melosa nods in agreement.

Callesa says 'It is about skill, about precision, about using exactly as much as you need, and
controlling it perfectly.'

Callesa poses the bowl on her desk.

Melosa senses Callesa connecting to the True Source.

Callesa channels a thin thread of Air and swirls the sand in the bowl.

Callesa draws a tiny bit of Saidar more, and carries a handful of sand two feet above the bowl,
whirs with it, and then returns it slowly to the bowl without moving the rest.

Callesa says 'Now it's your try. Take your time to embrace.'

Callesa says 'Just use a simple strand of Air, move some sand around. '

Callesa says 'Try to keep it out of your eyes.'

Melosa nods in agreement.

Callesa observes you calmly, still embraced.

Melosa opens herself to saidar and draws ever so carefully and weaves a clumsy, crooked line of Air
towards the bowl of sand.

Melosa 's weave of Air bumps against the bowl and almost spills it over!

Callesa catches the bowl at the last moment!

Melosa bites back a silent oath and adjusts the weave slightly and the sand swirls gently in the bowl.

Melosa coughs loudly.

Callesa says 'Good, keep going...'

Callesa says 'Now take a bit of the sand out and back'

Melosa focuses and sand rises in a thin column, hanging there for a brief moment before the weave is released.

Melosa nods in agreement.

Callesa says 'Excellent work, Melosa.'

Callesa says 'Now, let's try something a little bit harder.'

Melosa nods in agreement.

Melosa says 'Yes Callesa Sedai'

Callesa channels a few strands of Water into the bowl, turning fine silvery sand into sticky silvery
mud.

Callesa says 'And now let's do the same thing.'

Melosa thinks really hard.

Callesa channels a bit thicker strand of Air and swirles and mixes the mud.

Callesa brings a thin stream of mud one feet above the bowl and back, without spilling any.

Callesa says 'Your turn, child.'

Melosa nods in agreement.

Melosa weaves several threads of Water, reaching into the bowl - creating a fine mud.

Callesa says 'Well, now it is more watery, but as you wish, novice.'

Melosa says 'Oh!'

Melosa thinks really hard.

Callesa says 'Just try not to spill it all over my desk.'

Callesa says 'Keep going, novice.'

Melosa's cheeks are burning.

Melosa weaves strands of Fire which hardens the mud slightly.

Callesa says 'Hmm, don't dry it too much, rock would be hard to swirl around'

Melosa 's hands gestures as Air whips it slightly into a small dust cloud just above the bowl.

Melosa thinks really hard.

Callesa nods in agreement.

Melosa thinks really hard.

Callesa channels a small Barrier of Air around the bowl, to keep the cloud from falling all around.

Melosa says 'I do believe that it's more of a sandstorm than mud, Callesa Sedai'

Melosa thinks really hard.

Callesa nods in agreement.

Melosa pulls in the threads of Air and releases, letting the sand fall back into the bowl.

Callesa says 'Sandstorms have their uses too, but you need to mean to do them.'

Callesa says 'Keep practicing, child. You are making solid progress.'

Callesa smiles at Melosa.

Melosa nods in agreement.

Melosa says 'Thank you Callesa Sedai'

Melosa says 'I am just thankful that I do not have to drink that mud'

Melosa giggles.

Callesa says 'Oh, I would never make you do that, that silvery sand is hard to come by!'

Callesa grins at Melosa.

Callesa gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Callesa says 'Keep up the good work, novice'

Melosa says 'Ah... the other novices be telling scary stories'

Melosa curtseys before her.

Melosa says 'Thank you Callesa Sedai for the lesson'
