Picking Accepted Evee's brains about the Blind weave

Post by Yve » Sat Dec 02, 2023 9:09 am

This is a conversation between Novice Yve and Accepted Evee where Yve asks about how Evee uses blind, as tasked by Alison Sedai.

POV: Yve
With: Evee

The conversation slips into ooc technical stuff for a while.

-----------------------------------------

In the Classroom

Evee closes the door.

Evee says 'you wished to speak on something?'

You say 'Thankyou for taking the time to speak with me.'

Evee nods in agreement.

You say 'I have been given a task by Alison Sedai. I would like to ask you about the
Blind weave.'

Evee says 'I'm familiar with it'

You say 'More specifically, how you personally use it.'

Evee says 'a very good question'

Evee says 'there's two main goals I have when blinding a target'

Evee says 'the first, and simplest, is to lower their fighting ability'

Evee says 'being blind reduces your offensive and defensive capabilities.'

Evee says 'very effective'

You nod in agreement.

Evee says 'the second, is a little more strategic'

Yve takes a quick note.

Evee says 'by blinding a target, you nullify it's ability to initiate combat'

Evee says 'depending on if it's grouped with other mobs, it may remain motionless while
you subdue its companion'

Evee says 'it also allows you to open up with a weave or a friends bash unimpeeded.'

You say 'This is one of the things I've done, Mistress Vhalerie, the Wisdom, tried to
teach me this before I joined the Tower.'

Evee says 'or maybe a stab or a charge'

Evee says 'A wise old woman she is.'

You smile happily.

Evee says 'very cunning'

You say 'She knows so much.'

Evee says 'one last point'

Evee says 'you need to first consider what effort it will take to blind your target'

Evee says 'whether they are much higher level than you or something in the room that makes
blinding difficult.'

Yve quickly catches up on her notes.

You say 'Something in the room?'

Evee says 'it may not be worth your while to blind and other weaves may be more useful.'

Evee says 'some rooms have anti-blind features.'

Evee says 'you will fail many times'

You say 'Oh, I understand.'

Yve scribbles more.

You say 'I think that is the best point of all. Knowing WHEN to reach for blind.'

Evee says 'one more point'

Evee says 'knowing that blind last 3 rounds...'

Evee says 'in order to get the most out of it, you will want to use it right after a tic'

You say 'Oh yes, realistic expectations of your window of opportunity.'

Evee nods in agreement.

Yve takes another note.

Evee says 'having to reblind mid fight is not advised if it can be avoided'

Evee ponders life, the universe, and everything.

You nod in agreement.

Evee says 'do you have any personal situations that I haven't covered?'

Evee says 'i'm curious'

You say 'This is exactly what I need I think, a combination of technical point and
practical pointers'

You say 'I mostly have used blind on targets to reduce their ability to strike back.'

You say 'Mobs, smobs, trees so I can fight bravely and not get hit for it...'

Evee nods in agreement.

Evee says 'that would be the most common use while building experience.'

You say 'All this speak of blinding trollocs and dreadlords I hear from people like
Sarinda Sedai is outside of my experience, luckily'

Evee says 'indeed...'

Evee says 'it's entirely different'

Evee says 'i can offer some knowledge, but not extensive'

You say 'If you would like to, if you have the time.'

Evee says 'the use of anti-blind draught potions changes the dynamic'

You say 'I think blinding would not be my first go-to unless something about the situation
made it more useful at the time.'

Evee says 'blinding trollocs can be devastating for them'

Evee says 'on the other hand, if they are carrying a draught potion, they can be cured
almost immediately'

Evee says 'and be protected from another blinding weave for a period of time'

You say 'Alison Sedai brought this draught up in our discussion, I'd quite forgotten such
a thing existed.'

Evee says 'so you have to judge if trying to get the blind off, which is difficult as you
can't be engaged to start it.'

Evee says 'or if your time and sps would be better spent with another status weave or
direct damage.'

You say 'In the end, why not just burn them?'

You grin evilly.

Evee says 'good question.'

Evee says 'if they are full health, a weave or two won't temper their bloodlust'

You say 'Blind does not interrupt channeling but does it cause you to lose target on a
weave that is in motion?'

Evee says 'something worth testing.'

Evee says 'it should not if your already directly engaged with your target'

Evee says 'but if you are weaving on another target, then it may'

You say 'I see.'

Yve tries to summarise the last section of conversation on a fresh page.

You say 'So I think I have enough to work with, but now I have more questions in general.'

Evee says 'I have more time'

Evee says 'this is a good discussion i think'

You say 'The precise working of blind in these situations is probably a thing worth
knowing.'

Evee nods in agreement.

Evee says 'surprises in combat are rarely good.'

You say 'It may end up working differently with some weaves like sonic boom compared to
specifically targetted ones.'

You say 'And with unengaged targets vs engaged targets. '

You say 'That's two different lines of investigation, technically.'

Evee says 'engaged targets will be far simpler I think.'

Evee says 'there's not much to interrupt those save for damage, bashes or kicks '

Yve writes down. "Hypothesis, should work vs engaged."

Evee says 'but a very good idea to work out all the situations'

You say 'There are a lot of permutations of the situation.'

You say 'For someone to be targeting you with a damage weave while engaged you'd have to
start to channel the blind, them attack, start to weave and THEN your blind lands...'

You say 'then theirs would... do whatever it does.'

Evee says 'the timing would have to be very tight'

Evee says 'this is good. you know have me checking all the spell timings!'

You say 'And the testing sounds hazardous.'

You eat the honeycake.

Evee says 'with blind being 10 pulses and most other short weaves being 9'

Evee says 'or 8 with quake, it's likely both will land at the same time at worst.
otherwise your blind will go through first'

You say 'As long as the opponent starts their weave before blind actually goes off they
should still be able to start it.'

Evee says 'yes'

You say 'Glad I learned sonic boom after all.'

Evee says 'it has it's uses'

You say 'Shortcuts the problem by most likely just working if you're suddenly struck
blind.'

Evee says 'the problem lies in what happens next'

Evee says 'you're blind and your defense is greatly reduced.'

You say 'You're everyone in the room's best friend?'

Evee says 'if they are following you'

Evee says 'and you're not getting hit to be able to reweave'

Evee says 'otherwise you need to cure blind with either a weave or draught'
You say 'So the answer is quaff I'm told, or run and quaff.'

You say 'that's one I didn't pick up actually. No talent for it at all.'

Evee nods in agreement.

Evee says 'i would recommend having a quick macro for quaffing'

Evee snickers softly.

Evee says 'i don't know that I've ever had to use it on myself'

Evee says 'it's always the sword wielder who doesn't have one'

You say 'Contagions, I can remove those, but not blindness or fear or any other things.'

Evee says 'it's hard to take more than one, but you just have to understand which is more
likely to happen and can it be countered by other means'

Evee says 'i recently dropped cure blind myself'

You nod in agreement.

Evee says 'to take a better healing weave'

Evee says 'i'd like cure fear, but need another rank for the extra pracs'

You say 'I need to refocus, but I'm sort of holding out.'

Evee says 'as soon as you pass through the arches, your gold problems will be a thing of
the past'

Evee says 'i refocus about once a week lately'

You say 'I'm told I need to prepare for the next steps.'

Evee says 'lots of testing and trying things out as Accepted.'

You say 'It'll be nice to be able to travel again.'

Evee says 'it is convenient, but not as much as it once was'

Evee says 'I did a few weeks without travel '

Evee says 'it's amazing the pracs you can save and you just need to take advantage of
other means of traveling'

You say 'I just mean in the leaving the island sense.'

You say 'I've used the travel weave on a task for Tolza Sedai though.'

Evee says 'have you put in your request to go through the arches yet?'

You say 'I need to spend a little time with my newly assigned mentors I think.'

Evee remembers the gate tower guard.

Evee nods in agreement.

You say 'Accepteds Coshe and Amilesa have been tasked with helping me get where I need to
be.'

You say 'Well not just me, Maddy as well.'

Evee says 'i do need to attend to other matters, but do not hesitate to grab my sleeve.'

Evee says 'I often learn or remember much myself from these converstations'

You say 'Oh I will, thank you, this has been great.'

Evee says 'good day, Yve.'

Evee opens the door.

You say 'Thankyou again, Accepted Evee.'

Evee nods in agreement.

You curtsey before her.

Evee leaves west.

I enjoyed your efforts to stay mostly in character while discussing mechanics of various weaves and how to apply them effectively. Nice to see an Accepted offering a lesson as well. Thanks for sharing.

Please say "receive" at a silver-haired Aes Sedai for your rewards.
