Getting to know the novices

[Nevirha]

Summary: Nevirha meets with novices Trajega and Maddy to learn more about their stories and how they are faring in the White Tower so far.

Meeting Room of the Gray Ajah
Large, leaded glass windows surround the room on all sides, save the
southern where a large doorway leads out into a antechamber. The room
itself is dominated by a large wooden table around which sits at least
fifty matching chairs, something close to a record for the White Tower. In
the middle of the table are an assortment of unused parchments, quill pens
and stoppered ink jars. A small stand off to one side of the room holds a
large number of glass cups and a large pitcher of chilled water. An
inscription in fine lettering is etched upon the windows.

A large round table built from black oak dominates the center of the room.

Annoura Larisen says 'I will send my scribe to summon her, Nevirha.'

Maddy has arrived from the east.

Nevirha glides to the head of the oval table and has a seat.

Nevirha sits down on a stout oaken chair.

Nevirha gestures at the doors with her hand.

Maddy curtseys before Nevirha.

Nevirha says 'Good day, girls.'

The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.

Nevirha says 'Please, have a seat.'

Trajega says 'how can I be of service Nevirha sedai?'

Nevirha motions to the open chairs.

Trajega sits down.

Maddy says 'Good Day Aes Sedai'

Nevirha says 'I saw that the two of you were awake, and I wished to check in on how your studies are progressing.'

Maddy sits on the edge of the chair looking at Nevirha with anticipation

Nevirha says 'Please tell me a bit about yourselves and how you have found the White Tower so far.'

Maddy says 'I am still finding my way around the Tower Aes Sedai'

Nevirha smiles kindly at the novices.

Trajega says 'If it pleases the light, I am happy to starrt'

Trajega bites her tounge and waits

Trajega eats a strange fruit.

Nevirha focuses her gaze on Maddy.

Trajega says 'My apologies for cutting you off. '

Maddy beams a smile at Trajega.

Trajega says 'I have been steadily learning. I had the chance to get a little bit of extra tutoring from several sisters. My latest was from Callesa learning the geography'

Nevirha says 'Was there more you had to say, Novice? Your name, perhaps?'

Trajega says 'my apologies Nevirha Sedai. My name is Trajega.'

Maddy points at hersefl

Nevirha nods at Trajega, giving her a kind smile, and says, 'Callesa Sedai, child. Don't forget your honorifics.'

Maddy says 'Do you mean me?'

Trajega says 'I know I still have a lot to learn, but I am inching forward'

Nevirha laughs lightly. 'Yes, I suppose it's all a bit confusing. I was asking the novice here if she had more to say.'

Nevirha points towards Maddy.

Trajega eyes widen, and begs "please dont tell her i omitted that"

Maddy gives Trajega an encouraging smile

Nevirha taps her nose and whispers to Trajega, 'We'll keep it our little secret.'

Maddy smiles at Nevirha.

Trajega thanks Nevirha heartily.

Maddy says 'I am Maddy Lockwood from the Lockwoods on Cairhein'

Maddy says 'in*'

Trajega drinks water from a leather water flask.

Nevirha says 'Ah, I see. Now that I know both of your names, it should be much easier to converse.'

Nevirha laughs lightly.

Nevirha says 'Now then, Maddy Lockwood, how did you find yourself in the White Tower?'

Maddy says 'When I started to use the power, my family objected, they had other plans for me'

Maddy makes a disdainful face

Maddy says 'they had Marriage plans'

Maddy shivers uncomfortably.

Trajega cringes in terror!

Nevirha leans back in her seat, looking over Novice Maddy.

Maddy says 'they thought their money could stop me form exploring and learning how to use my gift'

Maddy says 'So i left'

Nevirha says 'Very interesting, and quite fortunate that you were able to make it to the White Tower to learn how to properly use the One Power.'

Nevirha says 'I am surprised to hear of Cairhienin objecting to a woman channeling. One of our most powerful sisters, Moiraine Sedai, hails from a quite prominent family in Cairhien.'

Maddy says 'Yes there were posters up in other Cites with my likeness so i make haste here '

Nevirha furrows her brow in worry.

Maddy says 'Yes my thoughts too but my father was adamant '

Nevirha says 'But your family knows you are here now, and safe?'

Maddy says 'I have not had a chance to write, I received my testing last night'

Nevirha says 'I surely hope they won't attempt to stage any...rescues...'

Nevirha bites off the last word of her sentence acerbically.

Maddy looks at Nevirha with concern

Nevirha says 'In any case, if they do, we will be prepared. The White Tower has had its fair share of dealing with angry relatives.'

Nevirha sighs heavily.

Maddy says 'I hope so as well '

Nevirha says 'It is unfortunate that so many people do not see our ability to channel the One Power as a gift like you do, novice.'

Nevirha says 'Now, Novice Trajega, how did you come to be with us?'

Maddy says 'I reallyhad no intention of bringing trouble to the Tower doors'

Nevirha reaches across the table and pats Maddy's shoulder.

Maddy looks at Trajega with a smile in eyes

Nevirha says 'Child, you bring us no trouble. You are safer here than anywhere else you could be, for this is the only place where you can learn to use the One Power properly.'

Maddy smiles at Nevirha.

Nevirha says 'And if your family come looking for you, they will leave with the understanding that you belong in the Tower now.'

Maddy says 'Oh thats wonderful news'

Trajega disappears into the void.

Trajega has returned.

Nevirha nudges Trajega with her elbow.

Maddy shifs slightly in her chair giving Trajega her full attention

Trajega says 'My name is Trajega. I come from the Two Rivers area, '

Trajega says 'My family took care of hogs. I was sent to pay our taxes for the year, and...'

Trajega sighs loudly.

Trajega says 'I sort of spent a little too much at the tavern, got in a fight, and woke up the next morning without the tax money,'

Nevirha arches a delicate brow.

Trajega drinks water from a leather water flask.

Nevirha says 'Light, child!'

Maddy pats Trajega's shoulder

Trajega says 'I hoofed it to here, and a sister paid off my taxes if I do some dishes.'

Trajega says 'and I think Im going to stay here as My Pa would still cut me up and sell me a penny a pound.'

Nevirha says 'Child, was it not explained to you when you joined the White Tower that you belong to us now?'

Trajega says 'While doing dishes, i broke a few with the source. That was pretty much where I came from.'

Nevirha says 'I see.'

Nevirha says 'Well, those are two quite different tales, though there are similarities in your stories.'

Nevirha says 'Both of you fleeing from families who might have your hide otherwise.'

Nevirha smiles kindly.

Maddy smiles at Nevirha.

Nevirha taps her chin, thinking.

Nevirha says 'Now, Trajega, you mentioned a lesson with Callesa Sedai? What has been your most interesting lesson in the White Tower so far?'

Trajega says 'Until it is done with me. Just hoping thats not too soon'

Trajega smiles at Nevirha.

Trajega says 'I think some of the most informative have been with Salindra Sedai on combat as well as practice combat'

Trajega says 'other than vistra using me to plow a field'

Nevirha tilts her head, considering Trajega.

Nevirha says 'I'm not sure I follow. Another novice used you as a plow?'

Nevirha arches a delicate brow.

Trajega says 'by the time our match began, I had already lost'

Nevirha says 'Ah, I see. You meant that metaphorically.'

Nevirha laughs, golden ringlets bouncing.

Trajega nods at Nevirha.

Nevirha says 'I thought the novices were coming up with some new games and was concerned they had too much time on their hands.'

Trajega says 'checking my notebook it was Tissaya who did this, My apologies.'

Someone knocks on the carveddoor from the other side.

Nevirha gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Aelrena has arrived from the east.

Aelrena glides into the meeting room with a stack of books, her eyes locking upon Nevirha as she begins, "Sister, I saw your req-" She cuts off abruptly as her eyes scan the room, landing upon the novices.

Aelrena says 'Ah, was this a bad time?'

Trajega clambers to her feet.

Nevirha says 'If you had the opportunity to teach one thing to Novice Maddy, what would it be, Trajega?'

Trajega curtseys before Aelrena.

Nevirha gestures at the doors with her hand.

The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.

Maddy stands up an curtseys to Aelrena

Nevirha looks up at the newcomer. 'Ah, Sister!'

Trajega sits back down

Aelrena's lips twitch up slightly at the corners.

Maddy sits back down on the edge of her chair

Nevirha motions to the empty chair. 'Please, have a seat. I was just chatting with these novices.'

Aelrena acknowledges the curtsies with a nod, though her eyes remain upon the gray.

Aelrena nods in agreement.

Aelrena says 'Well, I'll just set these here then. I brought them up for you.'

Aelrena's lips twitch up slightly at the corners.

Trajega drinks water from a leather water flask.

Aelrena sets the stack of books besides Nevirha's chair before moving one of her own over to settle into.

Aelrena sits down on a stout oaken chair.

Nevirha looks at the teetering pile of books, a grimace quickly passing over her face before it returns to calm neutrality.

Aelrena gives Nevirha a book on Tairen wedding ceremonies.

Aelrena gives you a book on empathy: an in-depth study.

Aelrena gives you a book on uniting disparate factions.

Maddy stops using a water skin.

Maddy drinks water from a water skin.

Aelrena gestures for the novices to continue, "Carry on girls, there's no need to stop on my
account."

Nevirha says 'Trajega, I think in all of the excitement of the books, my question was lost.'

Nevirha says 'If you were to teach Novice Maddy anything of your choosing about the White Tower or the One Power, what would it be?'

Trajega ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Trajega says 'I was suprised that I got quickly tested on specific weaves. It may help if you ask a
few Accepted what weaves they recomend you practice.'

Maddy nods at Trajega.

Trajega says 'They may be able to offer better advise. I knew very very little about the world
before I came here.'

Nevirha says 'Perhaps you could show Novice Maddy one of the weaves you found most difficult to form.'

Trajega says 'Much of what I learned is likely already known to a novice.'

Aelrena's lips twitch up slightly at the corners.

Trajega leans closer. Nevirha feels a healing power flow from her hands.

Trajega says 'I have been trying to practice weaves which help those who I am with rather than just myself'

Nevirha says 'Ah, a healing weave. Yes, that is quite useful to know.'

Nevirha senses Trajega is channeling saidar.

Flows of Fire and Spirit work into Nevirha’s muscles, enhancing her strength.

Maddy smiles and applaudes Trajega quietly

Nevirha peers down towards her arms and gives an approving nod.

Trajega says 'I am working at getting better at them, it usually takes me 2 or 3 attempts to heal
anything.'

Maddy says 'I love the idea of healing peopled'

Maddy says 'I can do it sometimes but its very weak'

Trajega sits back down.

Maddy says 'and not consistant'

Nevirha says 'Well, practice makes perfect, girls.'

Aelrena nods in agreement.

Trajega nods at Nevirha.

Maddy nods at Nevirha.

Aelrena says 'Though there's no shame in not having the talent for healing.'

Nevirha embraces the One Power, a bright nimbus forming around her.

Nevirha says 'Watch carefully. I am no Yellow, of course, and certainly many of them have better methods of healing, but here is one weave I have learned.'

Aelrena's lips twitch up slightly at the corners.

Nevirha begins wiggling her fingers, pulling together weaves of water, air, and spirit.

Maddy chin drops with awe at the beautful aura surrounding Nevirha

Nevirha spins the strands of each element together, forming a fine mesh, thinner than a spider's web.

Nevirha leans over, placing her hand on Aelrena's arm, and settling the fine web of air, water, and spirit on the Brown Sedai.

Aelrena cocks her head to one side as she watches Nevirha's weaving, one eyebrow quirking upward as it settles into her.

Nevirha says 'Maddy, see if you can bring together a few strands of air, water, and spirit.'

Maddy nods at Nevirha.

Trajega eats a strange fruit.

Maddy says 'Aelrena Sedai what does it feel like'

Aelrena arches an eyebrow.

Aelrena says 'Rather like healing I should think. Though I suppose if you want a more in-depth answer...'

Maddy says 'I have never been woven on other than protecting myself which feels cozy'

Nevirha clears her throat. 'I would like you to try to weave a mesh of air, spirit, and water, child.'

Aelrena says 'Hmmm... It's like being dipped in the Mantheredrelle in just your skin, like your body is suddenly in shock from something foreign before easing into something a touch more comforting.'

Nevirha says 'No need to worry about perfection.'

Nevirha smiles kindly at Maddy.

Trajega Curtseys to Aelrena Sedai, Nevirha Sedai, and Maddy. I thank you for the invitation, but I regret I have an urgent task i need to step out for. (ooc: Need to go get my kids)

Nevirha says 'Of course, child. Be well.'

Nevirha gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Trajega curtseys gracefully.

Trajega leaves east.

Maddy closes her eyes and steadies her breathing concentrating on the flower

Maddy continues to breath slowly in and out, her mouth opens slightly as she concentrates on embracing saidar

Nevirha watches the girl.

Aelrena watches the girl carefully, her expression tranquil.

Maddy shakes her head in frusteration

Nevirha places her hand on the novice's shoulder.

Maddy says 'let me try it my old way I know i need to practice the correct way'

Nevirha says 'It's alright, child.'

Maddy holds her breath squeezes her eyes shut and starts wiggling her fingers with fine threads of air,, water , spirit

Maddy suddenly looks disappointed as you see saidar release

Nevirha smiles kindly at Maddy.

Maddy says 'I guess I need to practice the correct way more'

Nevirha says 'There is no need to be disappointed, child.'

Nevirha says 'It takes some girls years before they can reliably embrace the Source.'

Aelrena's lips twitch up slightly at the corners.

Maddy says 'I often loose what i am tryingto do'

Nevirha says 'This is a skill that requires much practice.'

Aelrena nods in agreement.

Maddy nods in agreement.

Aelrena says 'And much care, even after you learn to channel reliably.'

Nevirha says 'I charge you with practicing embracing the One Power as often as you are able. Under supervision of an Aes Sedai or Accepted, of course.'

Maddy says 'i will continute to practice the way I was taught yesterday and abandom my old ways'

Nevirha says 'I believe you will be able to embrace reliably in no time.'

Maddy says 'Can I do it while washing dishes'

Nevirha says 'If there is someone around who is able to supervise you, yes.'

Maddy nods in agreement.

Nevirha says 'Some novices try too much too soon and can hurt themselves.'

Maddy says 'thank you Nevirha Sedai'

Nevirha says 'This is why we temper them.'

Maddy smiles at Nevirha.

Nevirha says 'We do not wish for any who have the ability to channel to be hurt or, worse, lose the ability to touch the One Power altogether.'

Nevirha purses her lips.

Aelrena shakes her head.

Nevirha says 'I would like to speak with you again when you feel more confident in your ability to embrace the Source.'

Maddy nods at Nevirha.

Nevirha smiles kindly at Maddy.

Maddy says 'I would love that'

Nevirha says 'I believe you have much potential, child.'

Maddy says 'Thank you for your kind words and time'

Nevirha says 'Of course, child. Do you have any questions for either me or Aelrena Sedai?'

Maddy Smiles at both Aes Sedai

Aelrena appears thoughtful for a moment, shaking her head as she turns to the novice, "If you've nothing else child, I suggest you be about your chores. I have business with Annoura and Nevirha Sedai, which I would prefer be private.

Maddy says 'I have none right now but I know I will have many in the next few days'

Maddy nods in agreement.

Nevirha says 'Feel free to seek me out any time, child.'

Nevirha smiles kindly at Maddy.

Aelrena nods in agreement.

Nevirha gestures with her hand.

Nevirha says 'Be well.'

The door smoothly swings open.

Maddy stands and Curtseys at Aes Sedai then walks to the open door

Maddy leaves east.

Nevirha gestures at the doors with her hand.

Aelrena hums quietly under her breath.

The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.

I awarded slightly different amounts based on how much time the participants were present for the log. This was a neat way to hear about some of the novices’ backstories, and to see how they interact with Aes Sedai of several Ajahs. I also enjoyed the description of challenging through roleplaying in addition to game commands.
