Setting: The Warders' Practice Yard
POV: Yve the Wearied Novice
Other participants: Abby (Novice), Tolza Sedai, Chloro Sedai and Aelrena Sedai
Abby curtseys gracefully.
Chloro inclines her head in greeting to Abby.
Tolza attempts to hide behind the warders.
Chloro looks at you archly.
You curtsey before her.
Chloro nods in agreement.
You curtsey before Tolza.
You giggle.
Tolza groans loudly.
Abby says 'I believe we have chopped down all the trees Aes Sedai'
Tolza steps out in the open.
Chloro says 'How fair your Studies children?'
Tolza says 'Light illuminate you two.'
Yve holds up her ink stained fingers for Chloro Sedai to see.
Abby says 'My brain hurts'
You say 'They go well.'
Tolza looks at you.
You say 'And yes, my brain is bursting from all the things buzzing around inside it.'
Abby says 'Lots to do and still sluggish from sleeping so long'
Tolza looks at Abby.
Chloro says 'Ah ink stains and head aches I believe that is Tolza Sedai's area.'
Chloro winks at Tolza.
Tolza says 'Hot baths and scrubbing. '
Tolza says 'Oh, and coconut oil.'
You say 'I've most recently been writing an essay to present to Aelrena Sedai on a book
from the Library.'
Tolza says 'Have you ever seen a coconut before?'
Tolza says 'Yes yes yes essay this and that child, we are talking about COCONUTS>'
You say 'I think I have, in a market in Illian, certainly pictures of one.'
Tolza says 'Oh, I have not.'
Abby says 'How do you get oil from a coconut?'
Abby ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Abby says 'My brain hurts again'
Tolza ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Tolza pokes you in the ribs.
Tolza looks at you and rolls her eyes.
You say 'I have no idea how one would get oil from one, I only saw it on a stall.'
Tolza nods in agreement.
The White Tower is bathed in a reddish orange light as the sun sets.
Tolza says 'I would think it might be some thing like juicing a melon.'
Abby says 'Pretty sunset'
Tolza says 'Stay focused on the conversation Abby.'
Tolza says 'Have one of you juiced a melon before?'
You shake your head.
Tolza says 'No?'
Tolza says 'Any kind of fruit?'
Abby says 'Melon?'
You say 'Never juiced, just... eaten.'
Tolza nods in agreement.
Abby says 'What kind?'
Tolza says 'Any kind.'
You say 'other fruit yes... mostly you just squash them and pour what comes out into a
cup.'
Tolza says 'Do you understand the concept?'
Abby says 'I have smashed watermelons'
Tolza says 'Exellent!'
Tolza says 'Some one fetch us a melon or some sort of fruit.'
Abby leaves south riding a bloodstock stallion.
You follow Abby.
You give a strange fruit to Abby.
You giggle.
Abby snickers softly.
(The novices return to the yard)
Abby gives a strange fruit to Tolza.
Tolza says 'One moment pls.'
Tolza thinks hard.
Abby says 'Is it juicy?'
Tolza gives a strange fruit to Abby.
Tolza says 'I don't know, smash it.'
You say 'should we find something more suitable?'
Abby drops a strange fruit.
Abby steps on a strange fruit.
Tolza gives you a toothy grin.
Abby gets a strange fruit.
Abby says 'Not so juicy'
Tolza says 'Very good technique.'
Yve points to the damp patch. 'I think it sort of worked."
Tolza says 'Yve would you like to try?'
Abby gives you a strange fruit.
You drop a strange fruit.
Yve lines up her foot and STOMP.
Fruit spatters the yard ( Tolza )
Tolza says 'Very good!'
You say 'Well, it's certainly crushed.'
You sense Tolza connecting to the True Source.
Tolza says 'Now lets try that using saidar.'
Yve watches closely.
Abby thinks hard.
Tolza says 'Care to demonstrate Abby?'
Abby says 'Im afraid I dont know how'
Tolza says 'So, lets start with what weaves you would use.'
You say 'I think I am getting the idea of what you mean.'
Abby says 'I have seen someone make a hammer of air before.'
Tolza says 'Good example!'
You say 'Similar to how we could draw liquid out of the air, we could do the same to the
fruit?'
Tolza weaves threads of air and fire creating a illuminated hammer.
Tolza nods in agreement.
Abby claps approvingly.
Abby says 'I think I saw how you did that'
Tolza says 'What if you removed the heat from that liquid with fire?'
Tolza says 'Or remove the fired from that liquid.'
You nod in agreement.
Abby thinks hard.
You say 'or use a combination of the techniques for creating water or food out of our
surrounding matter to, deconstruct the fruit?'
Abby says 'We can burn the fruit I suppose'
Tolza rolls her eyes...sheesh!..
Abby says 'bananas foster'
Tolza says 'Splatter, like making juice.'
Tolza says 'I dont think torched fruit would taste very well.'
Tolza says 'Ok, who has the fruit?'
You say 'I have more'
You give a strange fruit to Tolza.
Tolza gives you a strange fruit.
Tolza says 'Lets see you smash it with air.'
You feel the flows of saidar coursing through your body.
Yve holds the fruit out in front of her and lifts it with weaves of air.
Tolza nods at you.
Yve visibly concentrates, her brows furrowed. SPLOOSH, the fruit explodes,
splattering those nearby with juicey bits.
Chunks of flying fruit splatter Chloro Sedai's gray dress ( Tolza )
You say 'I think I overdid it.'
Tolza explodes with whistles and cheers.
You say 'I'm so sorry, Tolza Sedai.'
Yve tries to mop bits of fruit off of Tolza's dress.
Tolza says 'Oh dont be, I was not spattered.'
Tolza points at Chloro.
You say 'oh dear... worse than I thought'
You say 'Sorry, Chloro Sedai.'
Tolza shrugs helplessly.
Yve starts picking bits of fruit from Chloro.
Abby says 'That was a juicy one'
Tolza says 'I'm sure she has been splattered with worse child.'
You giggle.
Tolza says 'Ok Abby, can you out do your classmate?'
Abby says 'That was Impressive, Im not sure, but I can try.'
Chloro looks to the two girls as she embraces saidar, a weave of water and spirit leaping
into existance drawing the melon jucies and stains out of her garments and onto the grass.
Tolza weaves a shield of air in front of herself and her Sisters.
You emote: Yve takes a small step backwards.
Abby says 'I dont know how to make any fruit unfortunately'
You give a strange fruit to Abby.
Abby thanks you heartily.
You curtsey before Abby.
You giggle.
You sense Abby connecting to the True Source.
Abby licks her mouth and smiles.
Abby starts weaving thread of air and the fruit starts to lift up.
Tolza studies the threads of air.
Tolza nods to herself, she must need reassurance.
Abby bites her lip and furrows her brow.
Tolza says 'Go on.'
Abby weaves the air tightly around the fruit and slams it on the ground.
Chunks of flying fruit decorate the invisible wall of air and slowly slide down to the
ground( Tolza )
Tolza says 'Very good!'
Yve looks down to check her dress is still clean.
Abby whipes a little sweat off her forehead and finds some fruit there as well.
Tolza says 'Now for the lesson.'
Tolza says 'I would like...'
Tolza says 'A ten thousand word essay on the pollination of strange fruit.'
You chuckle politely.
Abby says 'I think I hear my mom calling'
You say 'It's a joke, Abby... at least I think it is.'
Yve looks at Tolza expectantly.
Tolza nods at you.
You smile happily.
Tolza says 'No, just a simple exercise on creative channeling.'
Tolza says 'Now what ever the shadow throws at you, trollocs, dark friends..ext you can
smash it to juice.'
You say 'I will admit I've never thought to use the power this way.'
Tolza says 'Not a very tasty juice I think.'
Abby says 'Thank you for the lesson, it was interesting, thought provoking, and a little
messy'
You say 'I'll pass on the troll presse, indeed.'
Tolza nods at Abby.
Tolza says 'Good thing we have Novice to clean up the mess.'
You sigh.
You say 'Thankyou, Tolza Sedai.
Tolza says 'Now, a warning.'
Tolza says 'It is ok to think on it, but until you are ready do not experiment with out
supervision.'
Tolza glances at the two girls in turn.
Yve takes on a serious demeanour
You say 'I will stick to the sanctioned weaves, unless I have explicit permission.'
Tolza says 'Say it with me.'
Abby says 'it'
Tolza says 'Yess Tolllzzaa see...'
Abby says 'Yess Tolllzzaa sedaiiii'
You say 'Yes, Tolza Sedai.'
Tolza says 'Very good.'
Tolza says 'Any questions?, No, good!'
Abby says 'None here'
Tolza looks at you.
Tolza looks at Abby.
You say 'Also no.'
Tolza says 'A novice with a shocklance'
Tolza chuckles politely.
Abby says 'I came to the tower late'
Chloro says 'What walk of life do you each come from?'
You say 'My family have been midwives, merchants and craftsmen as far back as we can
trace, mostly. '
You say 'I was sent away from home at a quite young age, for my own safety.'
Abby says 'I'm originally from Tarabon, daughter of a seamstress'
You giggle.
Abby says 'We moved around a lot though'
Chloro says 'There was a time, long ago, that I was the daughter of a blacksmith.'
Tolza says 'I was the daughter of a drunk.'
You sense Tolza connecting to the True Source.
Tolza glances around.
Tolza says 'Sorry, was not trying to derail the conversation.'
You say 'My father was a homewares merchant.'
Chloro looks to the one un-smashed melon. Channeling a weave of air she shapes a hammer in
her right hand. Her left hand stands the melon on end. With one quick circular motion she
clangs the hammer head down on the center of the melons end. Watching the melon split
split open in two perfect halves. "Some skills will aid you even long after your training
is complete."
Abby gasps in astonishment.
Tolza nods, obviously impressed.
Abby says 'The precision'
You say 'Beautiful.'
Tolza ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Tolza says 'Not much juice,tho.'
Abby says 'Much better than us'
Abby nudges you suggestively. You two have an understanding.
You grin evilly.
Chloro says 'Practice makes perfect girls, this is true of weaves and skills in life. The
more you do something the more it becomes part of you.'
Tolza nods sagely.
You say 'I think I have an idea how to actually juice a fruit with the power, it just
needs more... control than I've managed so far.'
You say 'I promise not to try without supervision though, in case I juice myself.'
Tolza nods in agreement.
Tolza says 'Please do not juice your self.'
Tolza says 'Who can tell me the third oath?'
Abby thinks hard.
You emote: Yve raises a hand.
Abby says 'Never use the power as a weapon?'
Tolza says 'Tell me it using juice, instead one power.'
Tolza nods at you.
Tolza groans loudly.
Tolza says 'Go ahead Yve'
You say 'Never to use... juice as a weapon, save against darkfriends and creatures of the
shadow or in defence of your life. '
You say 'or that of your warder'
Tolza nods in agreement.
Tolza says 'Good'
Tolza says 'What is the second oath, Abby?'
Tolza says 'Use noodle instead of weapon.'
Yve glances at the young warders and smiles shyly.
You giggle.
Abby says 'To make no noodle with which one person may kill another'
Tolza nods in agreement.
Tolza says 'And the first is to speak no word that is not true'
You say 'I think my father broke that one more than once.'
You say 'the one about the noodles'
Tolza says 'Was he a noodler?'
You say 'He was no kind of cook at all.'
You say 'the noodles in question resembled a solid, flat disk of blackness, with which you
could possibly kill someone.'
Tolza cringes in terror!
Yve nods in agreement.
You say 'We didn't eat those.'
You sense Tolza is channeling saidar.
Aelrena has arrived from the west.
Abby curtseys gracefully.
Tolza gives you a faint smile as her eyes dart to her book.
Tolza says 'Light illuminate you sister.'
You curtsey before Aelrena.
Aelrena blinks slowly as she glides into the practice yard, before greeting each of her
sisters with a kiss upon the cheek.
Aelrena says 'And yourself, Tolza.'
Aelrena's lips twitch up slightly at the corners.
Aelrena nods at Abby.
Aelrena nods at you.
Tolza says 'I was just teaching these girls to juice.'
Aelrena says 'Fruit?'
Tolza nods in agreement.
Tolza says 'You two show Aelrena what I taught you.'
Tolza says 'Do a REAL good job.'
You giggle.
You sense Abby connecting to the True Source.
Tolza says 'Im going to my chambers for the night.'
Tolza rushes out of the yard.
You say 'Good night, Tolza Sedai.'
Aelrena arches an eyebrow.
Yve steps back a little.
Abby weaves threads of air around a strange fruit. The fruit raises high into the air and
suddenly slams onto the ground with a loud SPLAT. Chunks of fruit splattering everywhere.
Abby whipes a piece of fruit off her cheek.
Abby says 'Sorry for being so messy.'
Abby says 'Havent mastered the technique yet.'
Aelrena blinks slowly as bits of fruit splash across her dress and bits of juice run down
her face.
Abby says 'But it was easier this time.'
You chuckle politely.
Abby blushes.
You say 'We've made such a mess... at least it's outside.'
Aelrena tuts quietly as she wipes the juice from her forehead, "I see that you're at least
learning, children."
You nod at her.
Aelrena chuckles politely.
Abby says 'We are, its kind of messy, but informative.'
Aelrena says 'And Tolza showed you this?'
Abby nods in agreement.
You say 'More or less, yes.'
Aelrena says 'I suppose. What is it that you feel you're learning from this?'
You say 'Creative applications of the one power, was what she said.'
You say 'Perhaps she was thirsty? Though no drinkable juice came from our exercise.'
Aelrena says 'I asked what you feel you're learning, not what Tolza said, Yve.'
You say 'Control. It's about control. Sometimes a tweezer can achieve more than a
hammer.'
Abby says 'We are learning to control air a bit more, need a lot more practice though.'
Aelrena's lips twitch up slightly at the corners.
Aelrena says 'And how does control help you along in your studies?'
Aelrena gingerly picks bits of fruit out of her shawl as she watches the two novices.
You say 'That all weaves require a level of control to execute safely?'
Abby says 'In this case it wont be as messy, so we can spend less time cleaning and more
time hitting the books.'
Aelrena says 'Certainly, those are both applicable reasons which control might be helpful
in your studies.'
Abby nods in agreement.
You say 'I think we're getting better.'
Yve looks to Abby, 'You splatted the second one much more quickly, and
completely, than the first.'
Abby says 'Yes, the first one i faltered on the weave for a second.'
Abby says 'Like Chloro Sedai said practice makes perfect'
Abby says 'I feel like we will get better the more we do it.'
Aelrena says 'Remember your mind is the strongest weapon you have, think things through
entirely and completely. Creative answers will get your further than uncreative answers.'
Yve smiles to herself, laughing at some personal in joke.
Aelrena glances to the gray sister, a small smile crossing her features before she turns
back to the novices.
Chloro says 'Indeed it does.'
Aelrena says 'Now...'
Aelrena pauses briefly, "Do it again, but slower this time. I wouldn't mind a glass of
juice."
Aelrena's lips twitch up slightly at the corners.
You sense Abby connecting to the True Source.
Abby gets a cup from a backpack.
Abby licks her mouth and smiles.
You say 'You can do it.'
Abby carefully weaves threads of air gently around a strange fruit.
Abby starts to squeeze the fruit over the raised cup, hoping to catch any juice that may
come out.
Aelrena watches the weave closely this time, and though her lips purse she remains silent
in her observation.
Abby squeezes a little too hard and while some juice does get into the cup, the fruit
burst again.
Aelrena reactively embraces the One Power, creating a shield of air between herself and
the fruit.
Abby sighs loudly.
Abby gives a cup to Aelrena.
Abby says 'Its all I could get, I'm sorry Aes Sedai'
Abby says 'Its tricky'
Aelrena nods in agreement.
Aelrena says 'It is okay child, keep practicing.", as she speaks she looks into the cup,
giving it a quick sniff before bringing it up to her lips, "Hmmmm'
Aelrena says 'Rather tart, isn't it?'
Chloro says 'If I may?'
Aelrena offers the cup to Chloro
Chloro nods to the brown and motions the Novice to the side.
Abby steps to the side and watches observantly.
Chloro takes the cup and places it on a spare stump to the left. Lifting a baseball size
melon she takes a dagger from her sleeve.
Abby looks around slowly, as if something is hidden in the room.
Yve looks on expectantly.
Chloro with precision she makes a small hole in the husk of the melon with the tip of the
dagger before returning it to her right sleeve. "Now that we ave an access point, you will
find things are less explosive."
Aelrena grins at Chloro.
Chloro pulling saidar around her she weaves thread thin flows of air in four circles an
inch apart around the melon and squezes the weaves slowly watching melon juice trickle out
till the husk is a crumpled damp shell. "Perhaps you will find this more refreshing
Aelrena."
You gasp in astonishment.
Aelrena murmurs quietly under her breath, "If perhaps less amusing in the mean time."
Aelrena says 'I do thank you though, Chloro'
Aelrena's lips twitch up slightly at the corners.
Chloro says 'Remember Novices, Saidar is a wonderful thing, but sometimes it cannot do
everything.'
You nod at her.
Aelrena ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Chloro says 'However.'
Chloro grins with a gleam in her eye.
Aelrena says 'And some things it can do, does not make them necessarily better.'
Abby says 'Multiple lessons from smashing fruit'
You say 'Nothing is ever as simple as it seems, I've learned that from many sources
recently.'
Chloro channels flows of air lifting a volley ball size melon. Slowly her right middle
finger spins in a circle as she watches the melon rotate faster and faster.
Yve ducks.
Abby whistles appreciatively.
Chloro a thin weave of water rotates an inch out from the melon as it spins faster, the
melon cracking under the force of its rotation. As the spinning continues the juice
leeches out into the flow of water creating a red circle around the spinning melon.
Yve stands back up.
You say 'Wow... so pretty.'
Chloro with a graceful wave of her hand the water flow splits and flows into the cup as
the dehydrated melon drops to the ground, drained of its liqud essence.
Chloro says 'There is always more than one way.'
You say 'It's the power, and physics, and art!'
Aelrena chuckles politely.
Abby says 'These lessons have worn me out. May I be excused?'
Aelrena briefly watches the spectacle with polite interest, though her attention quickly
shifts back to the novices.
Aelrena nods at Abby.
Aelrena says 'You may, Child.'
You wave goodbye to Abby.
You say 'See you in the dormitory.'
Abby says 'Thank you both for the lessons'
Abby curtseys gracefully.
Abby nods at you.
Abby says 'Good night.'
Abby leaves south riding a bloodstock stallion.
Chloro allows saidar to flow away from her. Walking slowly the strain of working to long
almost noticeable she squezes her sisters shoulder. "We will talk soon."
Chloro nods at you.
Aelrena's lips twitch up slightly at the corners.
Aelrena nods at Chloro.
You say 'Thank you, Chloro Sedai, Aelrena Sedai.'
Chloro leaves south.
Aelrena moves to the stump and sips quietly on the juice before shrugging.
Aelrena pulls one of the practicing warder students to the side before offering him the
juice and moving to the edges of the yard to seemingly watch the practice.
You say 'If i may be excused, I'm rather in need of a visit to the smallest room'
Aelrena waves the child away absently.
You say 'However my report is ready for delivery.'
You curtsey before her.
A messy lesson.
