Novice Niesra seeks a private lesson from the White Ajah and discovers a way to clean the lenses of the past and look back with better in-sight, with the help of Alison Sedai
View of Niesra
Participants: Novice Niesra, Alison Sedai
Walk on roll: Carlinya Sedai
Hall of Inferences of the White Ajah
The oval room is entirely filled by a single immense table, ornately
carved chairs with white leather cushions placed around it at equidistant
intervals. Behind each chair sits a large blackboard, smeared with chalk
dust accumulated over many years. Slender soaring windows pierce the high
walls, stretching to the distant ceiling. A large arch to the north leads
out of the chamber, heavy wooden doors swinging on cast-iron hinges.
[ obvious exits: N ]
Zone: White Tower Upper Floors
Door north: door
A chair made of red oak rests next to the table. [2]
Lady Alison San, Logician is standing here.
A young girl in a plain white dress stands here.
A silver-haired Aes Sedai sits here, reading.
A White Sister walks by, deep in thought.
Carlinya Sedai stands here, pale of skin and cold of manner as the white fringe on her shawl.
Niesra curtsies with a stiff knee to all near.
Alison says 'Hi'
Alison looks at you.
Niesra says 'Good evening, Aes Sedai.'
Alison says 'How are you today, Niesra'
Alison says 'Have a seat.'
Niesra says 'I am well Alison Sedai, spring seems to be in full bloom.'
Alison starts to brew some coffee and tea, 'Which do you prefer, coffee or tea?
Niesra brushes a few locks of raven black hair over her shoulder before sitting across from the Aes Sedai. With a chuckle she answers. "Women of my age tend to enjoy stronger things, coffee please Aes Sedai."
Alison grins beautifully.
Alison hands a steaming cup to Niesra
Alison says 'Age is irrelevant for us.'
Alison says 'Also how long you been in novice whites?'
Alison takes a sip of her strong, black coffee.
Niesra clutch's the cup with both hands taking a deep measured breath enjoying the aroma. "That would depend on which tour of the Tower you would like to know about Alison Sedai. This is my second time in white."
Alison says 'Current?'
Niesra says 'Currently, I have been in whites for a year. Centuries ago I was tower Accepted leaning Blue, like many who come here in ignorance and dreams of grand adventures.'
Alison says 'How come you back in whites?'
Alison leans closer, listening.
Niesra says 'A long time ago, when the Amyrlin seat implemented new methods for woman close to the shawl (tower wide vote). A sister tried to show its flaws by putting up two girls nowhere near ready. I was one, another wears a blue shawl now. I was young and insolent back then. I left in a fit of betrayal and rage.'
Carlinya Sedai glares icily at you, you feel cold to your bones.
Alison says 'Ah . The emotions.'
Niesra nods to Carlinya Sedai, "I to cringe, looking back on it."
Alison says 'Do you think you are destined to be blue ajah?'
Niesra looks up for a moment taking in the hall before looking Alison directly in the eyes. "I do not know. I have seen many sisters over the decades in practice out in the world. Most recently on Toman Head against the invaders."
Alison says 'Perhaps you are destined for another shawl. I personally aimed for at least 3 others’.
Niesra chuckles politely.
Alison says 'Tell me about this new path of yours.'
Niesra says 'I did as well my first time here. I shifted from Gray, to Blue, then Yellow and back to Blue. Coming to this with age and mental experience, I know what I do not want. I do not think I could be Brown, or Red, and I hesitate at Green. Gray is not an option.'
Alison says 'Perhaps you are white?'
Niesra says 'Perhaps White, or Yellow, maybe even Blue. Only time will tell. '
Alison frowns.
Alison stands and pours another cup.
Niesra says 'I have seen White sisters while traveling, doing more than I suspected they did. I will choose carefully this time. One thing is ever sure, for women like us, all roads eventually lead to Tar Valon.'
Niesra lifts the mug to her lips taking a deep draw of the coffee enjoying the bitter taste now that it has cooled a little.
Alison says 'How can I help you. What does Niesra require to move forward.'
Niesra says 'Clear thinking and mediation on my path. Jubilee Sedai was helping me with that the last time I was in the tower. '
Alison says 'Well do you know what triggers your emotions?'
Niesra says 'The Tower and its ways has changed much of the centuries. One thing, however, remains the same. "You can cheat your sisters, you can cheat yourself, but you cannot cheat the creator. My path will become clear when it wants to."'
Niesra says 'Youth was my bane, it has quieted now. I nearly found myself with a collar around my neck 50 years ago. That gained much perspective.'
Alison ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Niesra says 'I was a sheltered farm girl the last time I came to the Tower. This time I have over 200 years of experience in the world and with Saidar. I have also learned life, takes time.'
Alison says 'Give me a sample of what you do to meditate.'
Niesra says 'There is a clearing in the Great Forest, the pattern of the trees makes the wind feel as if it is swirling into a cyclone. I try to draw the image of the clearing and the feeling of the wind to perfection in my mind.'
Alison nods in agreement.
Alison says 'Does it help?'
Niesra says 'It does, though menial tasks help more. I often lose myself in thought doing dishes or scrubbing floors. Members of my family used to do the same with needlework.'
Alison says 'It’s the structure of it that prevents the mind to go into emotional state. Reciting random numbers and breath control helps as well.'
Niesra stops mid though and looks to the Aes Sedai. "In three hundred years I have not made the correlation of the breathing control in the rose bud technique and clearing the mind... I will have to reflect on this."
Alison says 'Two states one can be in. Logical state or Emotional state.'
Alison says 'The mind doesn’t allow both at the same time.'
Niesra says 'Perhaps I should double my meditative efforts then. Life always looks different when looking back, than looking ahead.'
Alison says 'Perhaps. Will it help you to be a calmer, better Niesra?'
Alison hands Niesra another cup of coffee.
Niesra says 'That I would have to report back on as I have not attempted viewing the last in a meditative state in logical mind. The past brings up much emotion.'
Alison says 'This is what I want you to understand as well.'
Niesra places her current empty cup down and grasps the new cup taking the ever present first whiff of the strong substance.
Alison says 'Viewing the past when one’s mind is in a state of logic, you then have a better lens to understand the past.'
Alison says 'What actions led to the emotions and outbursts. It is prudent to remember that anger is controlled by fear. Maybe know what you are afraid of.'
Niesra says 'I shall attempt this Alison Sedai, though I do not think the logical mind can decide the path forward. To much revolves around the Ajah one would join.'
Alison snickers softly.
Alison says 'Logical mind is the best way to plan forward.'
Niesra say 'There is an old saying that some wise women use in the north. I am of Kandor originally. "Fear is the mind killer, it is the little death that seeks to destroy. I will face my fear and let it pass through me."'
Alison grins beautifully.
Alison says 'Hence I made friends with my fear long time ago. When you befriend your negative emotions, you tend to become a better person.'
Niesra focuses mentally on the spot two inches in from her belly button allowing her mind to overcome the spring heat as she takes another sip of coffee, hazel eyes a light with the new information she is learning. "I shall have to use it as a mantra."
Alison says 'Any questions you have for me?'
Niesra says 'More than I care to sort through at this time. However, with meditation I may be able to narrow it down to the base facts I wish to discuss. May I send the pigeon for another lesson in time?'
Alison nods in agreement.
Alison says 'Yes. I would like to bring you down to a better version of you. For a small task. I want you to find the calmest meditation spot far north of Fal dara. A spot you think could be used to meditate in the midst of that chaos.'
Niesra stands and moves about the room gathering the empty mugs, almost nothing she might have earned her dinner this way many nights. "I will take these for cleaning and have fresh sent up Alison Sedai."
Alison says 'Ie a place you could use to be better in the moment. Give me a description of the room and why you chose it.'
Niesra pauses a moment "I am not able to travel there at this time Aes Sedai. The hall does not allow it. I will however do so once I am able (Tower only allowed north of malk gate)."
Alison says 'Use a map.'
Alison says 'Use your past knowledge.'
Alison says 'Talk to those that do travel.'
Niesra smiles and nods with a knowing look in her eyes. "That I am fully capable of."
Alison says 'Limitations are not what you think it is.'
Alison says 'Do you understand the task?'
Niesra says 'I do Alison Sedai, and I feel I am in for a trip the library to review the maps of Shienar and the pre-blight.'
Alison nods in agreement.
Alison says 'You may leave if you are done. Have a good day further.'
Niesra balances the mugs between both hands handing to the door, deftly using her hip to turn the handle and pull it with a decent vigor to swing it open.
Alison smiles happily.
Niesra says 'Light Favor you Alison Sedai.'
Niesra curtsies with a stiff knee to all near.
Alison nods in agreement.
