A Moment of Respite

Post by Chloro » Wed Apr 05, 2023 2:46 pm

From one older sister to a one newly in the shawl, they discuss the changes and ever demanding pace of the tower. Simply two sisters sharing a drink.

View of: Chloro
Participants: Chloro, Aelrena

Meeting Room of the Gray Ajah
Large, leaded glass windows surround the room on all sides, save the
southern where a large doorway leads out into a antechamber. The room
itself is dominated by a large wooden table around which sits at least
fifty matching chairs, something close to a record for the White Tower. In
the middle of the table are an assortment of unused parchments, quill pens
and stoppered ink jars. A small stand off to one side of the room holds a
large number of glass cups and a large pitcher of chilled water. An
inscription in fine lettering is etched upon the windows.

Zone: White Tower Upper Floors

A large round table built from black oak dominates the center of the room.
Aelrena Solyan is standing here.
A young girl in a plain white dress stands here.
A silver-haired Aes Sedai sits here, reading.
A Gray Sister walks here, considering her options.
Annoura Larisen is here, weighing your words.

Aelrena greets you with a light kiss on your cheek.

Chloro says 'Why sister, how fares you since your shawling?'

Chloro greets Aelrena with a light kiss on her cheek.

Aelrena says 'Fairly well, I heard that you were burning the oil in here, figured I should check on you.'

Aelrena says 'How are you faring, Chloro?'

Aelrena smiles with the question, the expression crinkling the corners of her eyes.

Chloro smiles and puts a hand on the younger sister’s shoulder giving it a slight squeeze. "As you will also in time I suspect. I am well, though the current political climate keeps my Ajah busy."

Aelrena chuckles quietly under her breath, "I suspect you're not wrong."

Chloro says 'Enough of me, what of yourself. Tell me how you find the other side of the tower. You are an initiate no longer, was it all you had hoped and dreamed of?'

Aelrena stifles a laugh behind her hand.

Aelrena says 'It is that, truly. It is also more paperwork than I ever imagined I would see.'

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Chloro moves towards two lavishly stuffed gray armchairs near the fireplace offering one to Aelrena."Come let us take a moment of respite while we talk."

Aelrena's lips twitch up slightly at the corners.

Aelrena says 'Thank you, Sister.'

Trinket the ferret has arrived from the east.

Aelrena settles into one of the chairs, smoothing her skirts as she sits.

Chloro sighs softly as she settles back into her chair with the fire blazing, then her eyes turn dark. "If SHERIAM cannot keep a leash on her beast it has no business being in the tower!"

Chloro channels a flow of air slamming the door behind the scampering elongated rat.

Aelrena nods along, tutting quietly though the corner of her mouth twitches upward.

Chloro says 'Horrid creature, it makes a mess everywhere and has an affinity for destroying books…..'

Aelrena says 'Otherwise, it is well. I have rather enjoyed the freedom to choose my course of study, though I've had little time for studying of late.'

Aelrena's expression darkens at the mention of destroying books, though it clears quickly.

Chloro nods and looks into the flames as she speaks. "No one tells you before you shawl the pace at which one’s life and burden is accelerated after. A lesson we all must learn in our own way. The browns I assume would have you bound to the library if not for what the world seems to be dealing with."

Aelrena's own gaze moves briefly to the fire before darting back to the Gray Sitter, "I suspect that you're right, though none have said it outright. I'm not so certain I'm meant to remain within the library walls.

Aelrena stifles a laugh behind her hand.

Aelrena says 'In fact, if anything my time in Andor of late has taught me that it's the last thing I'd want for my life.'

Chloro says 'I think we do it to all new sisters, to many of us know the harshness of what comes, it is only human for us to try and safeguard those new to the life.'

Aelrena nods in agreement.

Aelrena says 'It is appreciated, though there is much more to maneuver between than I imagined as an Accepted.'

Chloro says 'Now you know why we say the higher you climb the heavier the burden there is to bare.'

Aelrena nods in agreement.

Aelrena says 'Quite, but it's not too heavy yet, sister.'

Chloro says 'Have you visited Verin of late? I am sure stuffed in that office she must be delighted for company.'

Aelrena stifles a laugh behind her hand.

Aelrena says 'Would you believe me if I told you I visited Verin first thing upon returning to the Tower?'

Aelrena says 'We had a rather interesting discussion about the nature of Angreal and Ter'angreal that I won't bother boring you with.'

Chloro smiles warmly, "A laugh is a good thing to hear these days. I would believe it; I am sure the withdrawal from book binding glue and fresh parchment smells was too much."

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Aelrena says 'Both good smells in small dosages, though you do get rather sick of them after a while.'

Aelrena sighs loudly.

Aelrena takes a moment to just relax, the tension in her back disappearing as she lets herself truly sink into the chair.

Chloro chuckles and picks up a crystal decanter pouring a small glass of apple brandy for each of them. Gently she offers one to Aelrena. "That would explain why some of the more devoted library sisters look oddly at those who do not enjoy books as much. Have they attempted to bring you into the fold yet?"

Aelrena accepts the glass, gently swirling the liquid around it before taking a small sip. Coughing slightly, she responds "Not quite yet, I'm afraid. Though I'm certain the time is coming. There is far too much to be done outside the Tower, for now."

Aelrena says 'When this is all over, I suspect my ageless face and dedicated schedule to the library will make themselves manifest.'

Aelrena smirks.

Chloro chuckles at Aelrena's reaction to the strong brandy before taking a sip herself, smiling as no cough comes. "Remember this is your life, and you have to live it. Even though you are Aes Sedai, you have some say in how that life goes."

Aelrena's voice has the faintest touch of both contrition and longing in her voice when she mentions the ageless face, though her expression doesn't falter from its wide smile.

Chloro taps her glass. "Perhaps, or perhaps you will end up like Callesa, secret agent to continent."

Aelrena stifles a laugh behind her hand.

Aelrena takes another sip, this time only grimacing faintly "Perhaps,"

Aelrena says 'We shall see, I'm certain that my talents will be used to their utmost capacity for the furtherment of the Light.'

Aelrena says 'That of itself brings its own reward, though I'd be rather pleased to continue a few of my projects I had before gaining the shawl, perhaps start a few new ones.'

Chloro downs the rest of her brandy hearing the clerks start debating on which sister to give the new missive to. Placing her hand on the arm of the chair she slowly gets up, the tiredness of not sleeping much the past few weeks showing for the briefest of moments before Aes Sedai calm takes over again. "Either way, the tower rests for no woman, and I must get back to my duties here. We should get tea in the city soon and have a proper conversation."

Aelrena nods in agreement.

Aelrena stands from the chair, sharing a smile with the sitter before making her way to the door.

Aelrena says 'I look forward to it, drinks will be on you though, after all of this.'

Aelrena laughs quietly as she exits the room, her shoulders shaking ever so slightly.

Chloro inclines her head in parting to Aelrena and starts towards the bumbling clerks with a steady step.

Aelrena opens the carveddoor.

Aelrena leaves east. >>
