A Novice demonstrates her knowledge, and moves up in the ranks

[Ashlynn]

In this log, an Aes Sedai calls a Novice to her solarium to quiz her on her recent remedial lessons. The young girl demonstrates that she has learned effective notetaking, and is able to easily answer every question. The Novice's work pays off, and she becomes a Wearied Novice as a result.

Someone knocks on the carveddoor from the other side.

Ashlynn gestures with her hand.

The doors smoothly swing open.

Ashlynn glances at the door and calls, 'You may enter.'

Navani has arrived from the north.

Ashlynn gestures at the door with her hand.

Navani curtseys before Ashlynn.

The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.

Navani curtseys gracefully.

Ashlynn smiles softly at Navani.

Navani smiles happily.

Ashlynn says 'Hello, child. Please, take a seat.'

Navani sits down on a stout oaken chair.

Ashlynn points at one of the oak chairs.

Navani says 'Thank you Ashlynn Sedai'

Ashlynn gets a fine quill pen from a desk.

Ashlynn grabs a fine quill pen.

Ashlynn gets a sheet of paper from a desk.

Navani takes a small brown notebook from her dress and hastiliy scribles down a few notes.

Ashlynn dabs the quill of her pen in an inkwell, and begins to write on the sheet of paper.

Ashlynn looks up at the novice, and considers her.

Ashlynn says 'I heard you had a lesson with Accepted Sarenna on some of the Tower basics. Is that
correct?'

Ashlynn stands up, and walks over to a silver serving platter, looking for a cup of water.

Navani says 'Yes I did we went through a lesson of the oaths and their meanings as well as the 7
Ajahs.'

Ashlynn gets a cup from a silver serving platter.

Ashlynn drinks water from the cup.

Ashlynn nods in agreement.

Ashlynn says 'Very good.'

Ashlynn says 'Let us see if you retained much of that knowledge.'

Ashlynn drinks water from the cup.

Ashlynn sets the cup down on the desk, and sits in the chair in front of it.

Navani nods to herself, seeming to need some reassurance.

Ashlynn glances at her paper, and asks Navani 'Do you remember who is the head of the Gaidin?'

Navani says 'Master Coulin'

Ashlynn makes a mark on the paper.

Ashlynn says 'Very good. And who is the Mistress of the Novices?'

Navani says 'He trains in the courtyard which is a safe place to go if Shadowspawn enter the city.'

Navani says 'Mistress Sheriam'

Ashlynn nods in agreement.

Ashlynn makes another mark on the paper.

Ashlynn says 'Who runs the kitchen?'

Navani says 'Mistress Laras'

Ashlynn says 'Excellent.'

Navani says 'I have spent many hours in the kitchens with her, she has been very helpful and even
taught me how to bake a pie!'

Ashlynn chuckles at the mention of pies. She then says 'Oh, I love pie, and I love to bake it.'

Ashlynn says 'Okay, so far so good. Moving on...'

Navani nods in agreement.

Ashlynn says 'Tell me, what is Corele Hovian's role in the Yellow Ajah?'

Navani says 'She is one of 3 Sitters.'

Ashlynn says 'Excellent'

Ashlynn says 'How many sitters does each Ajah have?'

Navani says 'Three for each Ajah, I have been able to locate most of them.'

Ashlynn nods at Navani.

Ashlynn says 'Very good, very good.'

Ashlynn says 'What is the purpose, or mission, in general, of the Yellow Ajah?'

Navani says 'To assist those in need of healing or aide in battle against shadowspawn through things
such as will of strength and additional armor.'

Ashlynn nods in agreement.

Ashlynn continues writing on the sheet of paper, making note of the girl's answers.

Ashlynn says 'And what of the Gray Ajah?'

Ashlynn looks up, watching for Navani to respond.

Navani says 'The Gray Ajah work in matters of politics, mediation, and conflict resolution.'

Ashlynn says 'Correct.'

Ashlynn says 'How about the Blue Ajah?'

Navani says 'The Blues involve themselves in matters of justice, and they work for causes.'

Ashlynn stands up from her chair, and walks over to the serving platter, looking for a cake. Upon
hearing Navani's response, she says 'That is correct. Good job! I can see you have been paying
attention in your studies.'

Ashlynn gets a piping hot applecake from a silver serving platter.

Ashlynn takes a bite of the applecake.

Navani says 'Sarenna also told me that the most Amrylins have been raised from the Blue Ajah,
including the current one Siuan Sanche!'

Ashlynn nods at Navani.

Ashlynn says 'She is correct about that one.'

Ashlynn says 'And for the White Ajah, what do you know about it?'

Navani says 'The Whites study philosophy and logic, and debate over the objective truth of things.'

Navani says 'If you need to know about the written law, ask a White.'

Ashlynn nods at Navani.

Ashlynn says 'Let's talk about something else. The Three Oaths. Please recite each of them, in order.'

Ashlynn says 'I will then ask you a question about each afterwards.'

Navani says 'The First Oath is to speak no word that is not true'

Navani says 'The Second Oath is to make no weapon with which one man may kill another'

Navani says 'And the Third Oath is not to use the One Power as a weapon except against shadowspawn, or in the last
defense of my life, the life of my warder, or that of another sister'

Ashlynn claps approvingly.

Ashlynn says 'Wonderful. Whatever Sarenna did, it seems you are remembering well now.'

Navani takes out her small brown notebook from her dress with a slight smile.

Ashlynn dips her pen into the inkwell again, before making some more notes on her sheet of paper.

Navani says 'I have learned the art of note taking!'

Ashlynn smiles happily.

Ashlynn says 'Now for the further questions...'

Navani nods with a slightly nervous look on her young face.

Ashlynn says 'With regards to the First Oath, outright lying is prohibited. Sometimes, it is necessary to
conceal one's identity to further complete the mission. How might one do this without breaking the
oath?'

Navani says 'If one was on a secret mission using an alias for a name one might say to another "You
may call me Mistress Maisel" instead of "My name is Mistress Maisel".'

Ashlynn nods in agreement.

Ashlynn says 'That is a great example. There are other examples that generally and technically do not
break that oath. For example, if I were to tell you how stunning and intricate your novice dress
was, I am obviously being sarcastic, as we know it is plain white without any decoration.'

Navani takes a small brown notebook from her dress and hastiliy scribles down a few notes.

Ashlynn says 'In fact, I believe that if a sister truly believes what she is saying to be true, even if
it turns out to be false, it does not constitute breaking the oath, either.'

Ashlynn says 'I am unsure if the Accepted explained that to you or not'

Ashlynn turns back to the desk, and begins writing again.

Navani looks up from her notes and nods vigorously.

Navani says 'I understand more clearly now thank you Ashlynn Sedai.'

Ashlynn picks her pen up and sets it down on the desk. She then says to Navani, 'Why do we swear the
Second Oath? We are not blacksmiths, right? So why would we say we would not make weapons for men
to hurt each other?'

Navani says 'Using the power to make weapons that could harm others is strictly forbidden because of
the damage it can bring to oneself as well as others, especially when in the wrong hands.'

Ashlynn emote: Ashlynn nods at Navani, waiting for her to continue.

Navani says 'I am still learning about what powerful weapons are out there from the past Age of
Legends, but I have read that there are very powerful ones that do exist.'

Ashlynn nods at Navani.

Ashlynn says 'Yes, it is true. A long, long time ago, there were finely crafted weapons, imbued with the
One Power.'

Ashlynn says 'Some still exist today, and are highly prized for their durability and sharpness.'

Ashlynn smiles, and walks over to the serving tray, looking for some beef.

Ashlynn gets a hunk of beef from a silver serving platter.

Ashlynn takes a bite from the hunk of beef.

Ashlynn gets a wooden goblet from a silver serving platter.

Ashlynn sips mulled wine from a wooden goblet.

Navani says 'Ah yes I saw Elder Zygoat just yesterday wielding Arthur Hawkwing's very own hatchet!'

Ashlynn nods in agreement.

Ashlynn sit down on a chaise lounge.

Navani says 'Boy did he have an odd scent to him.'

Ashlynn chuckles politely.

Ashlynn changes her face back to one of seriousness, and glares at Navani in the most mellow way
possible.

Navani stares down at her feet, clutching the sides of her dress.

Ashlynn says 'Please make sure to keep comments such as those to yourself. You wouldn't want anyone to
think you are a gossip, or one to talk behind others backs.'

Ashlynn gives a wicked grin to Navani.

Navani nods at Ashlynn.

Navani says 'He did mention he lived in a tree of all things.'

Ashlynn nods at Navani.

Ashlynn says 'Foresters.'

Ashlynn says 'The Third Oath... tell me, if a Child of the Light that I just know likes to stab women in
the back were to hide in my room, does the oath prevent me from attacking him?'

Navani says 'That I would consider a threat to your life so not it does not prevent you.'

Navani says 'No, it does not*'

Ashlynn nods at Navani.

Ashlynn says 'Great, great.'

Ashlynn thinks really hard.

Ashlynn says 'Should a novice like yourself live by these oaths while in the White Tower?'

Navani says 'I believe so, in order to become an Accepted you have to be willing to live by the
oaths, however until you take them with the oath rod you are not bound to them like an Aes Sedai.'

Ashlynn nods at Navani.

Ashlynn says 'It's expected that all novices and accepted act as if they are bound by the rod.'

Ashlynn says 'So your belief is correct.'

Navani nods to herself looking eager.

Ashlynn says 'I know my sister discussed this with you already, and she mentioned that you had a great
answer about it. I was hoping I could hear it straight from your own mouth. '

Ashlynn says 'What are your goals in coming here to the White Tower?'

Navani says 'I want to become an Aes Sedai, to help those in need and to assist in the fight against
the Shadowspawn. I am very new to the one power as I am only 17 years of age but am eager and
excited to learn all that the White Tower has to teach.'

Ashlynn says 'Eagerness is good, but you should not become overeager. If you ever see Accepted Aelrena
around, I would recommend reaching out to her and asking her to teach you how to carefully consider
your words.'

Ashlynn smiles at Navani.

Navani nods at Ashlynn.

Ashlynn sits back at the desk, and picks up the pen. She makes a few final marks on the paper.

Ashlynn says 'sister, judge the readiness of Navani to advance in the Halls of the Tower'

Corele Hovian inclines her head, saying 'As you wish, Ashlynn Sedai.'

Corele Hovian says 'I shall consult with Alyssa the scribe on this matter.'

Corele Hovian leaves for a moment, then returns.

Corele Hovian says 'navani has the potential for rank 3.'

Ashlynn strokes her chin thoughtfully.

Ashlynn says 'You have been busy, it seems. You haven't been living in the library, have you?'

Navani says 'I have become very efficient at shelving most books, I do love the library, I have
never seen anything like it before.'

Ashlynn nods at Navani.

Ashlynn says 'Have you completed all of the tasks from Sheriam Sedai?'

Navani says 'All but one, I have not been able to locate the little Ferret named Trinket'

Ashlynn nods in agreement.

Ashlynn says 'He is a tricky one to find.'

Navani says 'Chloro Sedai taught me how to locate life with the power but he seems to be out of my
reach.'

Ashlynn says 'That is good that you have focused on several chores and tasks. I have seen some girls who
just spend all their time shelving books and not doing their chores or helping Sheriam Sedai find
trinket or take care of the mouse problem.'

Ashlynn says 'Okay, well that settles it.'

Ashlynn says 'sister let us recognise novice Navani'

Corele Hovian says 'It is done.'

Navani clambers to her feet.

Navani curtseys gracefully.

Ashlynn nods at Navani.

Ashlynn says 'You may be dismissed'

Navani says 'Thank you all for the faith in me, I will continue working.'

Ashlynn gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Navani nods in agreement.

Ashlynn nods at Navani.

Navani leaves north.
