Lexiane says 'I have come to ask you to participate in a logic puzzle!'

Post by Lexiane » Tue Dec 27, 2022 3:21 pm

As part of her apprenticeship to the White Ajah, Lexiane was tasked with drafting her own logic puzzle and asking people to answer it. Below are three short logs of her asking three very different groups of people her logic puzzle. Characters and editing noted before each one.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Logic puzzle discussion 1 - A lumberjack from Glancor engages with the puzzle.

Characters: Lexiane, Jeb

Rp-lizer and heavy, heavy lumberjack related editing (many trees died in the making of this log)

Forested Hills
[ obvious exits: E S W ]
Zone: Glancor
The corpse of the ancient tree is lying here.
A wild goose is here flying around.
A scrawny puppy sniffs the ground for food here.
A crow is here flying around.
Jeb Jenkins, a lumberjack working near Glancor is here, fighting the ancient tree, riding a wild
stallion.
The ancient tree is here, fighting Jeb.

Jeb lances the ancient tree's crown into bloody fragments!
The ancient tree tries to hit Jeb, but he deflects the blow.

Lexiane smiles happily.

Jeb lances the ancient tree's trunk into bloody fragments!
The ancient tree is incapacitated and will slowly die, if not aided.

Lexiane says 'Hello!'

Jeb lances the ancient tree's crown into bloody fragments!
The ancient tree is dead! R.I.P.
Lexiane's blood freezes as you hear the ancient tree's death cry.

Forested Hills
These hills are covered in trees, making progress through them difficult.
Also impeding progress is the thick undergrowth. Small ferns and and
tangled vines trip and pull at those who traverse these hills. The Far
Madding Road is just to the west, outside of the trees, running north and
south. The hills continue to both the south and east.

Lexiane says 'Well, first I will give you a puzzle'

Lexiane says 'Then you will answer it'

Lexiane says 'How does that sound?'

Jeb says 'yes'

Lexiane nods her shaved head.

Jeb says 'but i can't hold things till after my work'

Lexiane says 'Excellent.'

Lexiane says 'No need to hold anything but concepts'

Lexiane says 'And you do that with your mind!'

Lexiane taps her bald head emphatically.

Jeb says 'you're not one of those weirdos from murandy are you? '

Lexiane says 'No, I am from Andor!'

Lexiane says 'Well, let us begin.'

Jeb says 'fair enough.'

Jeb says 'okay.'

Lexiane clears her throat.

Lexiane speaks in a swift, business-like tone.

Lexiane says 'Well, thank you for agreeing to participate in my logic puzzle.'

Jeb says 'logic puzzle '

Lexiane says 'It is important to note that this puzzle is being performed as part of a task given to me by the White Ajah of the Aes Sedai.'

Jeb says 'white ajah of the aes sedai'
Lexiane says 'Correct or incorrect answers to this puzzle will have no bearing on your future interactions with the White Tower, the White Ajah, Aes Sedai, or myself.'

Jeb nods in agreement.

Lexiane says 'Should you wish to stop the puzzle and refuse to answer you may at any time.'

Jeb says 'no future interactions'

Lexiane says 'Now, the puzzle!'

Jeb nods in agreement.

Jeb says 'i can stop whenever i want'

Lexiane says 'You are a Cairhien courtier who has been organizing a meeting between the Tairen High Lord Grammond and your own lord. '

Lexiane says 'You have never met this High Lord, but you know a bit about the culture and traditions of Tear. '

Jeb says 'who is my lord'

Lexiane says 'Your Lord is Lord... Stevensia.'

Lexiane says 'Now, continuing on.'

Lexiane says 'In the lead up to the meeting there are rumors of bandits performing elaborate scams throughout the nation, swindling lords.'

Lexiane says 'On the day of the meeting, five people arrive and all claim to be the High Lord Grammond! '

Lexiane says 'You must identify who is actually a High Lord of Tear, you fear the others are pretenders who seek to rob or shame your lord. '

Lexiane says 'Being Cairhien, you decide to use the Great Game to identify the appropriate High Lord.'

Jeb says 'swindling lords or swindling bandits'

Lexiane says 'They are swindling the lords'

Jeb says 'oh'

Lexiane says 'Now'

Lexiane says 'You send your network of servants and courtiers to collect any information they can through conversation with the assembled High Lords.'

Lexiane says 'Your network dutifully passes back any information to you. You learn that,'

Jeb says 'lady this is making lumberjacking difficult'

Lexiane holds up her hand to stop Jeb from talking.

Lexiane says 'Please listen!'

Lexiane says 'This part is important.'

Lexiane says 'High Lord 1 loves to explain the details of his vast fishing empire at length.'

Jeb says 'how do i have an information network'

Lexiane says 'High Lord 2 arrived with a unique set of clogs, and when asked about them explained they are for walking through mud.'

Lexiane says 'Please pay attention, Jeb.'

Lexiane says 'The only way you can solve it is if you listen to the information!'

Lexiane says 'Now, continuing on'

Lexiane says 'High Lord 3 said he was pleased with how commoners were treated in Cairhien, and felt that Tear could learn from Cairhien's generosity.'

Lexiane says 'High Lord 4 prefers dice to playing cards.'

Lexiane says 'High Lord 5 has a beautiful dimple on his clean-shaven chin. '

Jeb says 'fish networks'

Lexiane says 'Using this information and only this information, can you decide who is the real High Lord of Tear?'

Jeb says 'yes'

Lexiane says 'Excellent!'

Lexiane leans in closely.

Lexiane says 'Who is the High Lord, then?'

Jeb says 'hm?'

Lexiane says 'Please explain your reasoning.'

Jeb sends an evergreen pine sprawling with a powerful bash!

Jeb says 'it’s high lord one'

Lexiane says 'Why do you think it is High Lord 1?'

Jeb says 'he has an extensive fishing network'

Jeb says 'very lordly'

Lexiane says 'Ah, good use of logic, Jeb!'

Lexiane says 'Unfortunately, it is not High Lord 1'

Jeb says 'hm'

Lexiane says 'You see, High Lords are generally unaware of the work that produces their wealth.'

Lexiane says 'Tairen High Lords leave such matters to their servants.'

Jeb says 'oh'

Lexiane says 'They would not be aware of the workings of their fishing empire.'

Jeb says 'then that makes sense'

Lexiane says 'Do you have any other guesses, lumberjack?'

Jeb says 'it must be high lord five'

Lexiane says 'Why do you think it is High Lord five?'

Jeb says 'since he didnt seem to know anything'

Lexiane says 'Unfortunately, it is not high lord five'

Lexiane says 'You see, Tairen High Lords all wear short beards'

Lexiane says 'It is the fashion now'

Jeb says 'ah'

Lexiane says 'To be clean-shaven, as this High Lord was, would indicate they are not in fact a High Lord!'

Jeb says 'oh that was obvious to me'

Jeb says 'i was testing your logic'

Jeb says 'whats a clog'

Lexiane says 'You do not know what a clog is, Jeb?'

Jeb says 'who do you think it is? '

Lexiane says 'Typically used to keep your feet out of the muck or wet.'

Jeb says 'likely not lord two'

Lexiane says 'And why not High Lord two?'

Jeb says 'i doubt they walk on their own feet'

Lexiane says 'Excellent reasoning.'

Jeb says 'two more i guess'

Lexiane says 'Please explain your reasoning!'

Jeb says 'must be lord four'

Lexiane says 'And why is that, Jeb?'

Jeb says 'he was from cairhien'

Jeb says 'likely an imposter if he is from cairhien'

Lexiane says 'What?'

Jeb says 'that's the bandit'

Jeb says 'high lord four'

Lexiane says 'High Lord 4 is the lord who likes dice'

Lexiane says 'Why do you think he is from Cairhien?'

Jeb says 'oh'

Jeb says 'maybe high lord three'

Jeb says 'is from cairhien'

Lexiane says 'Why do you think that?'

Jeb says 'the network information i received'

Jeb says 'if i remember correctly'

Lexiane says 'That High Lord appreciated how commoners were treated in Cairhien!'

Jeb says 'oh'

Jeb says 'not him'

Lexiane says 'Would you like me to tell you the answer, Jeb?'

Jeb says 'im just a lumberjack'

Lexiane says 'Yes, you are quite a good one!'

Lexiane says 'I am very tired from all this lumberjacking.'

Lexiane says 'Have you considered pursuing a more martial career?'

Lexiane blinks her eyes innocently.

Jeb says 'as i am of logic'

Lexiane says 'You are very hardy, it seems.'

Lexiane says 'And all this logging means you are very good at carrying things.'

Jeb says 'yes this is true'

Lexiane says 'Well, first things first.'

Lexiane says 'Shall I tell you the solution to the puzzle?'

Jeb says 'yes'

Lexiane says 'the answer is, none of them are the High Lord!'

Lexiane says 'Anyway, I think you should consider pursuing a new line of work'

Lexiane says 'You could study under the Gaidin in Tar Valon!'

Lexiane says 'You have quite a good mind for logic and the physical skills they require.'

Lexiane says 'Well, I must be off, goodbye!'

The Caemlyn town crier stands here, spreading the news.
A gleeman is here, playing a lute.
A rat has arrived from the north.

Lexiane rubs her hands together greedily.

Lexiane says 'A captive audience!'

Adael bows before Lexiane.

Naji has arrived from the north, riding a warhorse.

Lexiane curtseys to her audience.

Halthan leaves north riding a Domani razor.

Lexiane says 'Well, if you all have a few moments'

Lexiane says 'I have a logic puzzle you could solve!'

Naji says 'afk a quick min or two'

Kendall snickers softly.

Kendall says 'Aes Sedai prerogative'

Lexiane says 'I am sure that the Andoran Lord and the Lord Gaidin will solve it quickly!'

Lexiane nods at Kendall.

Lexiane says 'It is a task for the White Ajah, which I am apprenticed to'

Kendall says 'you give the andoran lord too much credit'

Kendall snickers softly.

Bumper says 'yeah this country bumpkin is a dummy'

Adael smirks.

Lexiane says 'Well, I will begin.'

Lexiane says 'Thank you all for your consent to participate in this logic puzzle!'

Lexiane says 'It is important to note that this puzzle is being performed as part of a task given to me by the White Ajah of the Aes Sedai.'

Lexiane says 'Correct or incorrect answers to this puzzle will have no bearing on your future
interactions with the White Tower, the White Ajah, Aes Sedai, or myself.'

Lexiane says 'Should you wish to stop the puzzle and refuse to answer you may at any time.'

Lexiane says 'Now, the puzzle!'

Lexiane clears her throat.Lexiane says 'You are a Cairhien courtier who has been organizing a meeting between the Tairen High Lord Grammond and your own lord. '

Lexiane says 'High Lord 4 prefers dice to playing cards.'

Lexiane says 'High Lord 5 has a beautiful dimple on his clean-shaven chin.'

Lexiane says 'Using this information and only this information, can you decide who is the real High Lord of Tear?'

Lexiane stares at the assembled group expectantly, her doe eyes wide and eager.

Adael nods in agreement.

Adael says 'I believe I have the answer'

Lexiane says 'Yes, my Andoran lord?'

Adael says 'Shall I give my reasoning why the others are not?'

Lexiane says 'Yes, please!'

Lexiane leans forward eagerly to hear Adael's answer.

Adael says 'It cannot be Lord 5, as Tairen lords are known to sport beards'

Lexiane says 'Well reasoned!'

Adael says 'It cannot be Lord 4, as we all know Tairen lords think dice to be a game of the common folk'

Adael says 'It cannot be Lord 3, as the Tairen lords care little for commoners'

Adael shakes his head.

Adael says 'Incorrect as that thought of theirs may be...'

Lexiane nods eagerly again.

Adael says 'It can't be Lord 2, as no Tairen lord would walk through the mud himself'

Adael says 'He would have his servants carry him'

Adael says 'Therefore, it must be Lord 1'

Lexiane says 'My, perhaps it was my Andoran culture that led me to the path of pursuing the White Ajah! What logic on display.'

Adael says 'Which, given his vast fishing empire, sounds plausible'

Kendall says 'tairens are known for their boastful arrogance and fishing'

Adael nods at Kendall.

Adael says 'Precisely Gaidin!'

Lexiane says 'I am quite proud to hear such excellent reasoning from a Lord of Andor!'

Lexiane says 'Unfortunately, you are wrong.'

Lexiane says 'Does anyone else have an answer?'

Lexiane scans the crowd.

Bumper counts on his fingers.

Naji says 'Tear is muddy.'

Lexiane says 'Yes, Naji Sedai!'

Lexiane says 'It is quite muddy.'

Lexiane says 'Well, I must admit that this was a bit of a trick question.'

Lexiane says 'Lord Adael had it four fifths of the way correct.'

Adael gasps in astonishment.

Adael says 'They are all frauds?!?'

Lexiane says 'You see, none of the assembled so-called High Lords were in fact High Lords'

Kendall says 'none of them are'

Lexiane says 'Yes!'

Lexiane says 'No Tairen High Lord would know enough of how their business operates'

Lexiane says 'To speak about it at length'

Adael throws back his head and cackles with insane glee!

Lexiane says 'Certainly not fishing!'

Lexiane claps her hands together excitedly at Adael's laughter.

Lexiane says 'Well, thank you all for your time.'

Adael says 'In that, Andor and Tear are different'

Lexiane curtseys to her audience.

Adael says 'I cannot be sad with my result'

Lexiane says 'Yes, quite different.'

Adael grins evilly.

Lexiane says 'You played excellently, my lord.'

Adael bows before Lexiane.

Lexiane says 'Thank you all for your time!'

Adael says 'Likewise Accepted!'

Lexiane says 'I wish you safe journeys and no bandits on the roads!'

Logic puzzle discussion 3 - Two Aes Sedai in Tar Valon attempt the puzzle

Characters - Lexiane, Sarinda, Gesin, Viridiana

Rp-lizer and editing

Lexiane says 'Hello, Aes Sedai!'

Viridiana stops following Sarinda.

Sarinda says 'So, Viridiana.'

Sarinda says 'The task is to catalog a list of every room on the island of Tar Valon in which it is either impossible, or difficult, to hide.'

Viridiana nods in agreement.

Sarinda says 'If it pleases the Light, this will help you learn safe places around the Tower, and
learn the layout of the place as well.'

Sarinda flashes a wolfish grin.

Lexiane says 'Would the two of you have time to engage in an exercise on logic?'

Lexiane looks eagerly at the Aes Sedai and novice.

Viridiana says 'I fear I have much to do still at the moment. Perhaps another time?'
Sarinda says 'I can certainly try.'

Lexiane says 'Thank you, Aes Sedai!'

Lexiane claps her hands eagerly.
Viridiana curtseys gracefully.

Lexiane stills her face and assumes a business-like tone.
Sarinda says 'Although I must admit, I do not have the head for puzzles the way some of our other sisters do.'

Lexiane says 'Thank you for agreeing to participate in my logic puzzle.'

Sarinda smirks.

Lexiane says 'Should you wish to stop the puzzle and refuse to answer you may at any time'

Viridiana says 'I will leave you to it. Aes Sedai, Accepted.'

Lexiane says 'Now, the puzzle.'

Viridiana curtseys gracefully.

Viridiana leaves west.

Sarinda chuckles politely.

Lexiane says 'You are a Cairhien courtier who has been organizing a meeting between the Tairen High Lord Grammond and your own lord.'

Lexiane says 'You have never met this High Lord, but you know a bit about the culture and traditions of Tear.'

Gesin has arrived from the south, riding a gray palfrey.

Lexiane says 'In the lead up to the meeting there are rumors of bandits performing elaborate scams throughout the nation, swindling lords.'

Lexiane curtseys before Gesin.

Lexiane says 'Hello, Aes Sedai!'

Gesin nods at the Accepted.

Lexiane says 'Sarinda Sedai is participating in a logic puzzle'

Lexiane says 'Should I start over so you may as well, Aes Sedai?'

Lexiane blinks her large doe eyes rapidly.

Sarinda smiles knowingly.

Gesin says 'I am interested, but I have some errands that require the Novice.'

Lexiane nods her shaved head.

Gesin says 'How long will it take, Child?'

Lexiane says 'It will take a few minutes, Aes Sedai.'

Gesin says 'Then, go ahead.'

Lexiane says 'It is about the selection of an accurate lord.'

Lexiane nods her shaved head.

Lexiane consults her notes.

Lexiane says 'We will skip the disclosures, I believe.'

Lexiane clears her throat and resumes a business-like tone.

Lexiane says 'You are a Cairhien courtier who has been organizing a meeting between the Tairen High Lord Grammond and your own lord. '

Lexiane says 'You have never met this High Lord, but you know a bit about the culture and traditions of Tear. '

Lexiane says 'In the lead up to the meeting there are rumors of bandits performing elaborate scams throughout the nation, swindling lords.'

Lexiane adds a belated, 'Aes Sedai' to her question.

Lexiane looks eagerly at the assembled Aes Sedai.

Gesin gets out a sheet of paper and draws a series of horizontal and vertical lines, interconnecting to form a grid.

Sarinda says 'If it pleases the Light, I have a question.'

Lexiane tries very hard not to lean over to peer at Gesin's paper, but does not succeed.

Lexiane says 'Of course, Aes Sedai.'

Sarinda says 'For the purpose of this exercise, should we assume that one of them must be the High Lord? Or does answering that give something important away?'

Lexiane says 'Your task is to identify which, if any, are the actual High Lord, Aes Sedai.'

Gesin says 'Not a part of this assignment as laid out, but I would be interested in which emissary did not care that my credentials were not vetted as fully, if bandits are scamming on the representation of lords.'

Lexiane nods at Gesin.

Lexiane says 'Yes, Aes Sedai. I fear this particular Cairhien noble has very low-perforing staff, Aes Sedai.'

Lexiane says 'I am sure it will be handled, though!'

Lexiane runs a hand over her bald head.

Sarinda chuckles politely.

Lexiane says 'One such way of engaging with a puzzle such as this is to eliminate targets and explain your rationale, Aes Sedai.'

Lexiane says 'Are there any would-be High Lord candidates you would eliminate, Aes Sedai?'

Sarinda quietly repeats the hints to herself, immersed in thought.

Sarinda says 'If it pleases the Light, there are two I would likely discredit based on my passing
knowledge of Tear.'

Lexiane says 'And which would those be, Aes Sedai?'

Lexiane leans eagerly towards Sarinda.

Gesin says 'I am dubious of the Third candidate. Tear is very prosperous in it's own right, and
Cairhien has fallen on some hard econimic times of late.'

Sarinda nods at Gesin.

Lexiane says 'Excellent reasoning, Aes Sedai!'

Sarinda says 'Regrettably, I have also not seen commoners treated particularly well in Tear, nor
observed High Lords vocalizing such care for them.'

Lexiane says 'That is indeed, not the High Lord! Well done, Aes Sedai.'

Sarinda says 'I would also be skeptical of the fifth. Men of Tear tend to favor short beards, oiled
to a point.'

Lexiane rubs her hands together in excitement, her previous business-like tone gone now.

Lexiane rubs her hands together in excitement, her previous business-like tone gone now.

Lexiane says 'Are there any other candidates you would eliminate, Aes Sedai?'

Gesin says 'Clogs are often worn over shoes as such, so I find nothing in that custom to discount yet.'

Lexiane says 'Are you familiar with the role of clogs in Tairen culture, Aes Sedai?'

Sarinda says 'If it pleases the Light, they are frequently worn there to avoid getting mud on one's clothing.'

Gesin says 'Only that they are worn over shoes to walk in muddy streets, then placed by the door.'

Lexiane says 'Exactly, Aes Sedai! The outer neighborhoods of Tear are unpaved and are quite muddy, Aes Sedai.'

Lexiane says 'You do not need them closer to the Stone and in the wealthier neighborhoods, though, Aes Sedai.'

Sarinda says 'One could argue that High Lords would have little need for clogs, yes. But they would also be the kind to bemoan getting their clothes muddy.'

Sarinda smirks.

Lexiane says 'Yes, Aes Sedai, I do not think the High Lords would like to get their clothes dirty. Though I also do not think they will often find themselves in a position where they can get dirty, Aes Sedai.'

Lexiane says 'Well, are there any other candidates you would dismiss, Aes Sedai?'

Sarinda says 'If it pleases the Light, I need to retire shortly. However, to answer your question most directly, I do not believe you can definitively rule in any of the five as being a High Lord based simply on these facts alone.'

Lexiane says 'Ah, thank you Aes Sedai. So would you say any are the High Lord, then?'

Gesin says 'I have not held a post in Tear, but from my visits I seem to recall that they typically
played cards, rather than gambling with dice.'

Lexiane says 'Quite right, Aes Sedai!'

Lexiane says 'High Lords of Tear do not play dice, Aes Sedai.'

Sarinda says 'I would be more inclined to consider the first, as fishing trade is very lucrative in
Tear. But there are wealthy merchants who could have a lucrative fishing business without being a High Lord.'

Lexiane says 'Exactly right, Aes Sedai.'

Gesin says 'I agree with my Sister, but I also understand this is a logic game of sorts, slightly
divested from all the nuances of the real world.'

Lexiane says 'Yes, Aes Sedai. This puzzle mirrors our world but relies on its brightest colors and
sharpest images, Aes Sedai.'

Sarinda says 'If I must pick one of them, I would guess the first, as there is noteworthy evidence
to rule out the other four, as we have already discussed.'

Lexiane nods her shaved head.

Gesin says 'We also aren't verifying that they HAVE a fishing trade. Just to see if they are saying anything that runs contrary to the stereotypes of what we know.'

Lexiane says 'Do you have an answer as well, Gesin Sedai?'

Lexiane says 'Or shall I explain my puzzle, Aes Sedai?'

Gesin says 'Go ahead and explain, Child, I wish to see if I can catch that Novice.'

Lexiane says 'Yes, Aes Sedai.'

Lexiane says 'It cannot be the fifth high lord, as Tairens High Lords all sport short beards as is their fashion.'

Sarinda nods in agreement.

Lexiane says 'It cannot be the fourth High Lord, as Gesin Sedai correctly noted High Lords do not play dice but rather cards.'

Lexiane says 'It cannot be the third High Lord, as High Lords believe commoners to be lesser beings.'

Sarinda mutters something under her breath about the shorebound.

Lexiane says 'It cannot be the second High Lord, as clogs are only worn in the muddy and poorer parts of Tear and High Lords would be carried through there by their servants'

Lexiane says 'And finally...'

Lexiane's doe eyes twinkle as she draws out the suspense.

Sarinda smirks.

Lexiane says 'It cannot be the first High Lord as no High Lord is aware of the details of their
businesses, they rely on underlings to manage their affairs!'

Lexiane says 'None of them are the High Lord!'

Sarinda chuckles politely.

Lexiane smiles broadly at the Aes Sedai.

Lexiane says 'Thank you both for participating in my logic puzzle.'

Lexiane runs a hand over her bald head.

Gesin says 'Thank you for the experience, Child. There is always something to learn.'

Gesin leaves west riding a gray palfrey.

Sarinda says 'If it pleases the Light, perhaps I would not use that one as a conversation point in Tear proper.'

Sarinda chuckles politely.

Lexiane lets out a guffaw that would rival a donkey's braying.

Lexiane says 'Yes, of course, Aes Sedai!'

Lexiane says 'Well, thank you for the experience.'

Lexiane says 'I must draft my notes!'

Lexiane curtseys before Sarinda.

Sarinda says 'Keep up your hard work, Accepted.'

Lexiane says 'If you will excuse me, Aes Sedai.'

Sarinda smiles warmly.

Sarinda nods in agreement.

Sarinda says 'May the Light illumine you, and bring you safe to journey's end.'

Lexiane says 'Thank you, Aes Sedai!'
