Isela is dead inside

Post by Isela » Wed Aug 31, 2022 11:02 am

Summary: Accepted Isela meets with Raeza Sedai as an introduction and to discuss her thoughts on Alison Sedai's post regarding the White helping other Ajahs.

Point of View: Isela
Main Characters: Isela, Raeza

--------------------------------------------------------

Continuing Down the Hall
A frieze depicting leaves of dwarf bonsai bonsai fig, feathery eastern
maple and cherry leaves and their blossoms lines the top of the plain white
walls, which have been lined with silvered stand-mirrors. Simple tapestries
of snowcapped mountains, shady forests and stands of bamboo with sunlight
slanting through them, offer a soothing backdrop for those who seek
meditation, truth and enlightenment.

The carveddoor is opened from the other side.

Hall of Inferences of the White Ajah
The oval room is entirely filled by a single immense table, ornately
carved chairs with white leather cushions placed around it at equidistant
intervals. Behind each chair sits a large blackboard, smeared with chalk
dust accumulated over many years. Slender soaring windows pierce the high
walls, stretching to the distant ceiling. A large arch to the north leads
out of the chamber, heavy wooden doors swinging on cast-iron hinges.
[ obvious exits: N ]
A chair made of red oak rests next to the table. [2]
Lady Raeza Dovoros is sitting here.
A silver-haired Aes Sedai sits here, reading.
A White Sister walks by, deep in thought.
Carlinya Sedai stands here, pale of skin and cold of manner as the white fringe on her shawl.

Isela curtseys before Raeza.

Raeza gestures at the door with her hand.

Raeza looks at Isela.

The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.

Raeza nods in agreement.

Isela drops a curtsy for the remaining Aes Sedai in the room as well.

Raeza says 'Good day, Accepted.'

Isela says 'Greetings Raeza Sedai. I'm excited to speak with you.'

Raeza gestures to the other chair.

Raeza says 'Please, sit.'

Isela sits down on a stout oaken chair.

Raeza nods in agreement.

Raeza says 'These doors do not prevent knocking, you know.'

Raeza says 'When you arrive.'

Raeza offers a slight smile.

Isela says 'Curious, Aes Sedai. I knocked twice.'

Raeza says 'Perhaps on the wrong door. There are several in that particular room.'

Raeza says 'Or I was too wrapped up to notice it.'

Raeza says 'It is unimportant.'

Raeza waves a hand slightly.

Isela says 'I apologize for the miscommunication.'

Raeza says 'I had thought to mention your recent post in the forum about your recent battles, but it
appears that it has been resolved already?'

Raeza says 'I no longer see it there.'

Isela says 'Yes Raeza Sedai. I was informed it was posted in the wrong area. I was unable to post it
anywhere else in the Tower forum, so I wasn't quite sure what to do.'

Isela says 'Sarinda Sedai had encouraged me to start posting logs.'

Raeza nods in agreement.

Raeza says 'There is no where within the White Tower forums for such posts. Perhaps this is an
oversight on our part.'

Raeza says 'For the time being, I would suggest putting them in the general forum devoted to that
purpose. (AoW)'

Isela says 'It seemed to be important to her that others see some of my battles. I shall post them to
AoW in the future.'

Raeza nods in agreement.

Raeza says 'You could politely suggest to her that she note them in your personal Tower record,
though Sarinda is highly competent at administration, so I suspect she will already do that anyway.'

Isela says 'I will bring it up the next time I see her, Raeza Sedai.'

Raeza nods in agreement.

Raeza says 'Good then. Do you lean towards the Red Ajah then?'

Isela says 'I do.'

Raeza nods in agreement.

Raeza says 'I imagine you have seen the Hall's recent decree about Tower Accepteds? I would remiss
if I did not remind you to work towards seeking out an apprenticeship, but it appears you are doing
so.'

Isela nods.

Isela says 'I have written an application to the Red, but it has not been answered yet.'

Raeza nods in agreement.

Isela says 'The feedback from Sarinda Sedai so far has been very helpful though.'

Raeza says 'Very well. With mundane business sorted, let us turn to your recent thoughts on Ajah
symbiosis, as posed by my sister Alison.'

Isela says 'I've been hoping to catch more Aes Sedai awake or in the Tower, but it has proven
challenging.'

Isela nods, sitting up straight.

Raeza says 'You appear to have a keen sense of the White Ajah's skill with logistics, a topic I am
quite fond of.'

Isela says 'I must admit the White was one of my top three choices in Ajah, Raeza Sedai'

Raeza lifts an eyebrow the tiniest of slivers at that.

Raeza says 'Oh, and what has attracted you to the White?'

Isela says 'My mind has always been far more logical than emotional'

Raeza nods slowly.

Isela says 'My childhood girlfriends always joked I was "dead inside"'

Isela frowns at that.

Isela says 'I just like to think about things from a more logical and true angle, without emotion.'

Raeza tilts her head to the side, with an understanding look on her face.

Raeza says 'Well, perhaps the White would have been a good fit for you indeed, though I dare say
those qualities can suit a woman well regardless of where she ends up.'

Isela says 'I actually feel like perhaps others who think as I do feel even more strongly than the
"passionate" ones, because we can recognize the difference between the emotion and the rest of the
thoughts.'

Raeza says 'Very interesting. Say more.'

Raeza motions slightly with a hand.

Isela nods thoughtfully.

Isela says 'I suppose what I mean is that I am very passionate about things, but I'm also very aware of
the dangers of letting those passions control me, so I control them instead.'

Isela says 'and perhaps that is how others with very logical brains work too.'

Raeza strokes her chin slowly before holding up a single finger.

Raeza says 'I believe you have touched on something that is central to how many in our Ajah, or
indeed many who have more logical minds in general, approach issues.'

Isela nods slightly, listening.

Raeza says 'It is not so much that we are devoid of passions, or devoid of emotion altogether. I
think of it as though we have stronger filters than many others.'

Isela says 'That's a better word for it. Filters.'

Raeza says 'These things get filtered much more strongly than they perhaps do for others.'

Isela nods in agreement.

Raeza rubs her chin, nodding slowly.

Raeza says 'Yes, very interesting.'

Raeza looks up at you suddenly as if remembering you were here.

Raeza says 'Well, we began on the issue of symbiosis. Given your clear penchant for battle, I would
be eager to hear your thoughts on how this type of thinking can aid and perhaps hinder in battle.'

Isela nods, leaning forward.

Isela says 'I've shared a few thoughts already on how it might aid the Ajahs, but specifically to
battle, I feel it could do both aid and hinder.'

Raeza nods, listening.

Isela says 'The hinder side is plain as day to me: I tend to think HARD about things. When I'm
thinking, I'm not acting, and if you don't act in battle, you die.'

Raeza nods in agreement.

Isela says 'The nice thing is that on the flip side, thinking through the battle strategy in advance
will put you way ahead of your foe.'

Isela says 'so it definitely is a double-edged sword... pun intended.'

Isela blinks her eyes innocently.

Raeza offers a slight smile.

Isela glances at the other White in the room, who appears to be deep in thought.

Raeza looks at Carlinya Sedai.

Isela says 'It makes sense to me why the White rarely venture out of the Tower, Raeza Sedai.'

Raeza says 'She hears more than you would think, but does a good job hiding it.'

Isela says 'Others may not see it, but I know it to be true that you do very important work here.'

Raeza nods in agreement.

Isela says 'Time in thought and problem-solving can't be done effectively in real time on the
battlefield.'

Raeza says 'I think you have again put your finger on a critical distinction.'

Raeza says 'Many of my Green sisters like to remind us that you have no time to carry out a logical
analysis in the midst of battle.'

Raeza says 'Most stop there, as if there is nothing else to say.'

Isela nods, sighing slightly.

Raeza says 'To that, I say preparation is key, as you have just mentioned.'

Raeza says 'The better your preparation, the more probable it is that you will make effective
decisions in the heat of the moment.'

Raeza says 'Because you can fall back on well founded principles.'

Isela says 'I agree, Raeza Sedai. It's just like practicing the staff or other physical skills. The
practice is important. Mental practice is no less important.'

Raeza nods in agreement.

Raeza says 'Some may say that nothing beats experience in the field. Perhaps this is true, but...'

Raeza says 'if field practice alone would take 500 hours to master some skill, some concept, perhaps
with excellent preparation that can be halved or even better.'

Isela nods matter-of-factly.

Raeza says 'Well, I have enjoyed this conversation, Accepted, but I have some matters to attend to.'

Isela says 'It's refreshing to discuss this with like-minded mentors, Raeza Sedai'

Raeza nods in agreement.

Raeza says 'I hope you will visit me in the Hall of Inferences again.'

Isela says 'Of course. Thank you for your time, Raeza Sedai'

Isela stands up.

Raeza gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Isela curtseys to her audience.
