Summary: Aja wakes and finds Aelrena in the Well reading
Major characters: Aelrena and Aja
Perspective: Aelrena

Aelrena says 'Good to see you, Aja'

Aja sits up on the side of her bed after waking up, stretching her arms out and upwards and yawning.
"Hello, Accepted Aelrena. Are you still reading?"

Aelrena smirks as she looks down at the book in her lap before hoisting it up where the girl can see it.

Aja rubs her eyes with the back of her hands.

Aelrena says 'I'm not certain you'll ever find a day that I'm not reading something or another, Aja.'

Aja says 'I am not much of a reader. I've always had servants read for me.'

Aelrena frowns before looking up to Aja, several hairs having fallen free of the tail at the back of
her head.

Aelrena says 'How do you know what was said if you didn't read it yourself? You certainly didn't have them read everything to you, did you?'

A novice has arrived from the west.

Aja speaks as she bends over and pulls on her slippers at the edge of the bed. "Of course they read everything. Father sent Sandra to a school to learn to read for me. See.. Sandra is a LOT older than I am. When father realized he was going to have a daughter, he didn't want me to have to worry about reading until I was ready, so Sandra did it all."

Aja smiles happily.

Aelrena 's eyebrow quirks higher up as the novice continues, "I see." Despite her words, the tone of the woman sounds rather incredulous. "I take that this worked out for you then, until you came to the tower?"

Aja taps her bottom lip as she looks up with her eyes thinking. "Well.. I was told there is a roster
outside Sheriam Sedai's office, and I saw the paper.. but I couldn't read it. I guess father did me
a disservice by what he did. Maybe Sandra can come here and teach me to read?"

Aja says 'I could read parts of it..small parts because Sandra was teaching me right before I got
sent here, but I am still slow at reading I admit.'
Aelrena 's tranquil expression softens, and her tone is gentle as she responds "I believe that you could speak to Sheriam Sedai to set up times with Accepted or other tutors who could help you with your reading. I'd also be willing to help if you like, I just have to be sure to continue my
research.

Aja says 'Oh! I forgot Sandra can't come here and stay with me. Hm. That may be my only option, Accepted Aelrena.'.

Aelrena says 'I'm glad that you remembered, I'm afraid you're a time away from servants, Aja.'

Aelrena nods at her.

Aja cants her head to the right and looks down. "I listen well though and have been able to do
everything I have been asked here. It is just when they give me a book it takes me a while to figure out what is in it. I find myself walking along asking others what this word is or that word. As I said, I can read some, but lots of words escape me."

Aja gets a plate of yellow peppers and pork from a belt pack.

Aja eats a plate of yellow peppers and pork.

Aelrena looks up from her position on the floor and closes her book, leaving the thumb of her right hand between the pages. "That's okay Aja. You're allowed to take your time and learn, you don't have to rush, and there's no shame in not knowing before. You merely have to put in the work now."

Aja nods and her lips curl into a smile. "Since this is now my home away from home, I suppose itwould be in my best interests to learn not just more about the One Power, but also how to read." Her eyes look directly at Aelrena. "I mean, maybe you have a point about others reading to me? How can I trust someone is telling me what is actually there. I need to see it myself."

Aelrena smiles in response to the novice's words, the expression touching her eyes. "The only thing that I would mention is to correct you. The Tower is not your home away from home, the Tower is now your home, and every other initiate is part of your family. Upon donning novice white, you have left your old life behind."

Aja lowers her gaze to the floor, the bottoms of her slippers hanging an inch off the floor and them swinging forward and back as she sits atop the edge of her bed. "That is true. I have been here a while now and am learning more and more daily about this novice white that I wear."

Aja drinks water from a leather water flask.

Aja puts a leather water flask on her belt.

Aelrena nods sagely, "Yes you have, I know that it's sometimes difficult to remember things which are new, but you have time." The woman absently runs her left hand along the cover of the book in her lap as she speaks with the Novice.

Aelrena stares at the sky.

Aelrena ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Aelrena says 'While I'm thinking about it, I believe that Sarinda Sedai wished me to speak to you about her task, were you still struggling with timing your weaves?'

Aja , a dimple in her right cheek as she smiles, nods. "Sarinda Sedai did mention you and yes.. I
weave too early more often than not and it gives the things I am fighting a chance to interrupt me. I need to get much better at timing my start mainly."

Aelrena nods in agreement.

Aelrena says 'I understand that, if it makes you feel better, I'm still struggling with the same task.'

Aelrena chuckles slightly and glances pointedly down to the tome, "I'm afraid that my talents lay in directions other than weaving in combat personally, but I'm still trying."

Aja's eyes widen and her jaw drops slightly. "You are struggling too? I sometimes am able to weave as Sarinda Sedai's task asks of me, but other times I just..", her head shakes side to side, "..just flat out stink at it."

Aelrena chuckles, her umber eyes full of mirth, "I'm not the most confident with my ability to weave during combat, no. I do still struggle and I've been working on Sarinda Sedai's task myself to improve.”

Aja says 'You still inspire me when we talk, Accepted Aelrena.'

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Aelrena says 'I do my best, Aja. I'm here to support you when I can and remind you that you're not alone.'

A scout narrates 'Call the banners! Shadowspawn sighted at Borderlands North of Fal Dara!'

Aja points with her right index finger at Accepted Aelrena and then her own chest, "You.. and I will figure it out with the support we have at our sides here in the Tower. After all, we need to be able to at least defend ourselves when we are out and about.. right?"

A novice has arrived from the west.

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Aelrena nods at her.

Aelrena says 'Yes, we will.'

Aelrena smiles happily.

Aja breathes deeply through her nose, "It was nice seeing you awake. I am afraid being a Novice, the library needs attending to. Soon if you are still willing, I will take you up on learning how to read better."

Aelrena nods at her.

Aelrena says 'Of course Aja, just leave me a letter somewhere and I'm always willing to help you out with your reading. Be careful out there.'

Aelrena smiles happily.

Aja waves goodbye to Aelrena.

Aja leaps off her bed and runs out of the Well.

Aja leaves west. <<
