Raeza and Catisune meet

Post by Raeza » Sat Aug 06, 2022 2:47 pm

Summary: Raeza is in the Hall of Inferences reading through some papers, when a sopping wet Catisune unexpectedly stops by. A bit of small talk takes a turn when Catisune offers Raeza a small gift before quickly taking her leave, leaving Raeza feeling somewhat befuddled in the process.

POV: Raeza
Main characters: Raeza, Catisune

---------------------

Hall of Inferences of the White Ajah
The oval room is entirely filled by a single immense table, ornately
carved chairs with white leather cushions placed around it at equidistant
intervals. Behind each chair sits a large blackboard, smeared with chalk
dust accumulated over many years. Slender soaring windows pierce the high
walls, stretching to the distant ceiling. A large arch to the north leads
out of the chamber, heavy wooden doors swinging on cast-iron hinges.
[ obvious exits: N ]
Door north: door
A chair made of red oak rests next to the table. [2]
A silver-haired Aes Sedai sits here, reading.
A White Sister walks by, deep in thought.
Carlinya Sedai stands here, pale of skin and cold of manner as the white fringe on her shawl.

Someone knocks on the carveddoor from the other side.

Raeza gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Catisune has arrived from the north.

Raeza looks up from her reading and puts some papers away in a chest.

Raeza says 'Sister.'

Catisune looks like a disheveled bird as she tracks in water to the Ajah study.

Catisune says absently 'I fell into the fountain. Can you dry me off?'

Raeza arches an eyebrow slightly as she looks around at the mess.

Raeza says 'Am I a drying service to you?'

Raeza arches an eyebrow.

Raeza feels the flows of saidar coursing through her body.

Catisune says 'Only if you fulfill my request.'

Raeza weaves flows of Fire into the clothes of Catisune.

Raeza adds flows of Air to finish the job.

Catisune does not smile, but her eyes might as well purr as she observes Raeza's handiwork.

Raeza says 'Well, I am most certainly NOT a drying service, but we cannot have you wetting the rugs.'

Raeza closes the chamberdoor.

Catisune says 'I thought we might agree on that.'

Raeza returns to her chair.

Raeza sit down on a stout oaken chair.

Raeza says 'I suppose you have not come only for that purpose.'

Raeza arches an eyebrow.

Catisune glides to a chair in a flurry of only slightly-disheveled russet silk.

Catisune sits down on a stout oaken chair.

Raeza looks at the Brown with curiosity.

Catisune places a tawny bag of sewing trinkets at her feet, and she begins rifling through it studiously.

Catisune first dislodges a taxidermied pigeon, then several vials of ink and blotting sand, then some unusual stones, and a garnet hairpin, before finally arriving at the object of her quest.

Raeza looks on with an unreadable expression.

Catisune says 'Your apprentice is quite the aspirant poet.'

Raeza says 'Oh? Amilya you mean?'

Catisune nods as she hands you a single parchment boasting of the wonders of Tanchico.

Catisune says 'Perhaps she oversold it, but I have always appreciated enthusiasm in my pupils.'

Raeza reads through poem.

Raeza shrugs.

Raeza says 'It is a story I suppose. Do you find it well written?'

Catisune says 'I've always said the difference between poetry and philosophy is a good editor.'

Raeza chuckles lightly at that.

Raeza says 'Maybe a fool version of philosophy. Poetry tends to be far too... vague to suit my purposes.'

Catisune says 'You speak of bad poetry, of course.'

Catisune smiles, and her voice chimes like steel wrapped in velvet.

Catisune says 'But how are you, sister? We have not had the occasion for a formal meeting.'

Raeza says 'Perhaps I have not seen good poetry, then. To answer your question, I am well. I have been deep in thought recently working on a theory of truth as it relates to the first oath. Perhaps I will teach a class on it soon.'

Raeza says 'It is a shame we have not had the opportunity to meet properly. It is good of you to stop by.'

Catisune says 'I should like to attend.'

Raeza says 'You would be most welcome.'

Raeza goes to sip some tea from a cup and frowns slightly when she realises it is empty.

Catisune arranges her slightly sullied skirts with a prim hand.

Catisune says 'What do you make of our many new charges?'

Catisune looks at Raeza.

Raeza says 'It is good to see life again in the Tower.'

Raeza says 'It gives me hope for the future.'

Catisune nods, the bun atop her head swaying dangerously.

Catisune says 'I observe patterns in the weft of the wheel and wonder what it means.'

Raeza nods slowly.

Catisune says 'So many claiming a gray shawl of late--will the nations of this land sue for peace? And then so many
little sparks in the dark.'

Raeza says 'We would like to imagine that the nations can all come together for peace.'

Catisune crosses her ankles as she leans over to fetch something else from her bag.

Raeza says 'Though the Wheel has a way of forcing balance. My sister Mierin is fond of discussing the importance of balance in the Pattern.'

Catisune returns with that garnet hairpin. She stands suddenly, swooping over to Raeza. She thrusts it before her. 'This would suit your coloring.'

Raeza leans back, mouth slightly agape, before recovering.

Raeza says 'I... thank you, though I tend to wear little in the way of adornments.'

Raeza says 'I do keep my hair pulled back as you can see, so I suppose I could work this in.'

Raeza takes the hairpin awkwardly and nods.

Raeza offers a slight smile.

Catisune hauls her bag up as if it were heavier than it looks. 'I will excuse myself, but please call on me soon. I would like to show you the view from my Ajah study windows. The Erinin is lovely this time of year.'

Raeza says 'I should like that.'

Raeza says 'Thank you for coming by, sister.'

Catisune adds on her way out the door 'Yes, with your eyes . . .' She fairly glides despite the many wrinkles her run-in with the fountain provided.

Catisune clambers to her feet.

Catisune opens the carveddoor.

Catisune leaves north.

The carveddoor closes quietly.

Raeza stares at her teacup for a long while, pondering what just happened.
