A Touch of Yellow

[Alexis]

Summary:
Aelrena had contacted Alexis to inquire about the nature and mission of the Yellow Ajah, as well as what an apprenticeship could look like should she choose to pursue one. Alexis led her on a practical mission that involved defeating several myrddraal in Ghealdan and Murandy, and return to the Yellow Ajah solarium for a practical lesson on the nature of Healing.

Alexis gets a black sword from a backpack.

Alexis holds the sword very delicately by the end of the hilt.

Alexis feels the flows of saidar coursing through her body.

Alexis channel threads of Air, wrapping it in a net and lowering the sword gingerly onto the desk.

Aelrena watches the weaves and Alexis Sedai closely, her brown eyes narrowed.

Alexis frowns.

Alexis says 'It emits almost a...black light, if that makes sense.'

Alexis feels the flows of saidar coursing through her body.

Alexis gestures at the door with her hand.

The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.

Aelrena says 'I believe I understand, though I can't say that I do entirely without seeing it.'

Alexis says 'The Green Ajah may find interest in hunting down the Fades who wield these. The Browns might find benefit in researching how they are made, so that we can learn how to destroy them.'

Aelrena ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Alexis says 'But among the Yellow Ajah, we are interested in the pursuit of Healing, in all its forms, both direct curing and prevention.'

Aelrena says 'I can see both having their uses... but without being able to heal their effects, we would find ourselves just as lost as if neither of those two tasks were carried out.'

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Alexis nods in agreement.

Alexis says 'It is said that these blades are wrought by the One Power.'

Aelrena frowns.

Alexis says 'Or perhaps similar to one.'

Aelrena says 'With the help of dreadlords, Alexis Sedai?'

Alexis says 'Perhaps the Dark One taints the Power, or has his own source of it. I cannot say.'

Alexis shivers uncomfortably.

Aelrena flinches at the mention of a taint upon the one power, seemingly without realising.

Alexis says 'What I do know about these blades, is that to create one, the forging requires a human sacrifice.'

Alexis' face darkens and twists into a scowl.

Aelrena frowns.

Aelrena ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Alexis says softly, 'Men and women are taken in raids in the Borderlands, and killed in Thakan'dar for this reason.'

Aelrena says 'Do we know if there are other requirements? Does it have to be an unwilling sacrifice? Is it the death of the subject that's needed? Or is it a certain amount of blood?'

Aelrena frowns.

Alexis says 'You say that you are practiced in the Cure Poison weave?'

Aelrena's tone is quiet, sad, and a bit hesitant 'Is that something that happens often, Alexis Sedai? People being taken in raids?'

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Alexis nods grimly.

Aelrena says 'Yes I am.'

Alexis says 'More so than it used to. The Dark One's forces are growing.'

Aelrena frowns.

Alexis says 'There are two different types of Healing weaves we have currently discovered and utilize in our fight against the Shadow.'

Alexis says 'Some Heal the body, and make the recipient hungry. These cannot be turned towards oneself.'

Alexis says 'Some, however, only target aspects of a target's constitution, such as the eyes, or the disease itself in the blood.'

Alexis says 'They require finesse, and training, but can be woven on one's own body.'

Aelrena ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Alexis pauses. 'Watch closely. I will not do this twice.'

Aelrena stands back slightly, cocking her head to the side slightly and narrowing her eyes in concentration on Alexis.

Alexis rubs her thumb gently along the edge of the blade, and then suddenly flicks it, intentionally cutting her skin, the barest scratch breaking through.

Aelrena cringes in terror!

Alexis immediately hisses in pain, pulling her hand back. 'I am a believer in practical methods of instruction,' she says through gritted teeth.

Aelrena flinches for a brief moment before nodding. 'I understand, I'm watching, Alexis Sedai.'

Alexis holds out her thumb to Aelrena. The cut is already oozing with a blackness, which begins to seep into her veins as her thumb's skin darkens.

Alexis breaks out into a cold sweat, something not ordinarily seen on Aes Sedai.

Aelrena frowns.

Alexis says 'That is...probably the longest I dare wait. If I let this go, even a small scratch like this will kill me, probably within the hour.'

Alexis feels the flows of saidar coursing through her body.

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Alexis begins to weave the appropriate flows...

Alexis feels the toxins in her blood beginning to fade.

Alexis sighs in relief as the weave of Earth and Water settles onto her hand.

Aelrena nods slowly, her eyes still narrowed as she watches closely, but her hands tightly clutch her skirts in white-knuckled focus.

Alexis shows Aelrena her thumb as the weave wraps around the wound. The blackness...congeals, then reverses in the veins, expelling from her hand and dissolving like dust into the air.

Aelrena lets out a slow breath as the weave settles into Alexis.

Aelrena nods in agreement.

The wound is completely clean and healed with no sign of poison or infection ( Alexis )

Alexis stands up straighter and nods.

Aelrena nods slowly, her eyes still narrowed, and she responds, her tone hesitant. 'I think I might be able to replicate that, though I'd rather see it again to be certain that I remember, I know that healing can be dangerous if you weave one thread incorrectly.'

Alexis nods in agreement.

Alexis says 'There is some kind of black river that runs through Thakan'dar. I have not seen it myself. It is possible the Dark One's touch, or the corruption of the item by use of the Power by dreadlords there, coats these with their awful poison.'

Alexis says 'When you practice on smaller injuries, or more basic wounds like this, less of the Power is required and the risks are smaller. Well, normal wounds, anyway.'

Alexis smirks.

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Alexis says 'As part of our apprenticeship, we teach women on anatomy and physiology, and how the One Power can influence the body. You can practice on animals, but more often we have no short supply of those who are injured or sick.'

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Alexis says 'Under the careful supervision of a Yellow sister, you can bring aid to the weary and ill, all while mastering your Talent.'

Aelrena nods, her expression one of contemplation.

Alexis says 'We also teach about the ethics of Healing. When, and when not, to use the flows.'

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Alexis says 'How to use the Power judiciously, and how to triage, when time and energy are taxed.'

Aelrena says 'How to heal if the one power is not an option, then as well.'

Alexis says 'Another critical aspect of our apprenticeship is learning about the world and navigting the most dangerous places in it, so that in someone's greatest need, you can know how to reach them and provide battlefield Healing.'

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Aelrena says 'I believe I figured out what you meant about Jenda Sedai finding it interesting to have a conversation with me, during Penzei's debate, now that I think about it.'

Alexis flashes a grin.

Alexis nods in agreement.

Alexis says 'Jenda is one of the most skilled Healers I have ever known.'

Aelrena nods in agreement.

Aelrena says 'But her ethics diverge from other Yellow sisters I've spoken with.'

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Alexis says 'Yes and no.'

Aelrena ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Alexis says 'We share many of the same values, I think, but her approach, reasoning, and judgment may be different.'

Alexis says 'Certainly, her methods.'

Alexis flashes a grin.

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Aelrena says 'I merely meant her thoughts that she voiced on consent.'

Aelrena says 'and the consideration of such as a weapon.'

Alexis says 'You could say that Jenda has a streak of Blue in her, but the Cause she follows is to Heal those who need Healing.'

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Alexis nods at Aelrena.

Alexis says 'She does what must be done.'

Aelrena nods in agreement.

Aelrena says 'I understand that, and I believe she might be right. I'd love to speak with her more in depth.'

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Alexis says 'So, I think that covers some of the core parts of the apprenticeship. We are in the midst of reconsidering how, specifically, we structure it and provide tasks. In what order, and for what purpose, and so on.'

Alexis says 'But those are the core principles at its heart.'

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Aelrena says 'so if I ask for apprenticeship I might end up the guinea pig.'

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Alexis grins evilly.

Alexis says 'More like you would very likely be the first to fully come through it in its new iteration. Again, assuming we actually change anything.'

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Alexis says 'Penzei is one of our most active and advanced Yellow Ajah apprentices.'

Aelrena says 'An exciting prospect either way, I think.'

Alexis says 'If you want an honest opinion of one who is not a full sister, I would approach her.'

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Aelrena says 'I may just do so, if I can find her any time soon.'

Aelrena shakes her head.

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Alexis says 'I would also note that we have a very lively space for sharing information with each other when we are away (OOC: Ajah Discord server). Even when you do not see many Yellows awake, one or two, or more, are almost always a quick pigeon away.'

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Alexis says 'A number of us have been away from the Tower on personal business or Ajah tasks, but some are around or can be available when contacted in advance.'

Aelrena says 'That's good to know, that if I do choose to apprentice with the Yellow I'll have a chance to reach sisters.'

Alexis nods in agreement.

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Alexis says 'I must retire soon, but do you have any questions before I go?'

Aelrena says 'That is one of my fears when I apprentice, truth be told.'

Aelrena shakes her head.

Alexis nods in agreement.

Alexis says 'I cannot say it will not happen.'

Aelrena says 'I do not believe so, Alexis Sedai, and any questions I do have can wait for another night.'

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Alexis says 'But my advice is this: Follow your heart, and your mind. All Ajahs will lead you to becoming a great servant to the world and an ally for the White Tower.'

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Alexis says 'Seek out the women whom you most admire and respect, the ones whom you would want to spend the most time with for centuries to come.'

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Aelrena says 'If my heart and mind could agree on an Ajah, maybe I'd already know where I'll be apprenticing. But I do understand your advice, Alexis Sedai.'

Alexis says 'Whether you wear a Brown, Yellow, or Blue shawl, may not have as dramatic of an impact as you think on the way you carry yourself and choose to spend your free time. But it does affect who you will spend that time with.'

Aelrena nods slowly, her expression one of contemplation.

Alexis says 'And if you value an Ajah and find that not many women are active within it, if you have chosen wisely, you can revitalize that Ajah and hopefully draw more apprentices to its causes yourself.'

Aelrena chuckles politely.

Aelrena says 'ah, yes, part of the pressures of wearing the shawl.'

Aelrena nods at Alexis.

Alexis says 'In this way, you could more actively shape the future of the Ajah yourself, or seek out a position in the Hall of the Tower as a Sitter.'

Alexis nods in agreement.

Alexis says 'I must take my leave for now.'

Alexis feels the flows of saidar coursing through her body.

Aelrena says 'You've left me with much to think about.'

Alexis gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Aelrena says 'Thank you for your time tonight, Alexis Sedai.'

Alexis says 'Then I have done my duty.'

Alexis' lips curve into a knowing smile.

Alexis says 'You are welcome, Aelrena. It was my pleasure.'

Alexis says 'The Light illumine you and watch over you.'
