Red Ajah Interactions

Post by Ruby » Sat Jun 11, 2022 3:42 pm

I approached Etain Sedai regarding how the Yellow Ajah's mission intersects with that of the Red Ajah. A health inspection of Imre Stand and Cold Rocks Hold is also discussed.

Point of view: Ruby
Main character: Etain

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Solarium of the Yellow Ajah
Tall, arched windows offer a view of the island of Tar Valon and the
confluence of the river Erinin beyond Southharbor, as the river starts on
its journey to Tear. Pots and plants dot the balcony outside the windows.
Chairs have been drawn up near the windows and vases containing bouquets of
of yellow flowers have been placed nearby. Several desks and clusters of
chairs have been distributed around the room, allowing for informal
discussion of Yellow Sisters' research and studies.
[ obvious exits: N ]
Zone: White Tower Upper Floors
Door north: door
Sumptuously upholstered, a gold brocade chaise lounge with gilded legs rests nearby.
A large desk made of fine, thick wood stands across the room from here.
A chair made of red oak rests next to the table. [2]
A Yellow Sister glides past.
A silver-haired Aes Sedai sits here, reading.
Corele Hovian stands here with concern in her eyes.

Ruby sits down on a stout oaken chair.

Ruby tells Etain 'Do you have a moment to speak, Etain Sedai?'

Etain tells Ruby 'I do.'

Etain has arrived from the north.

Ruby stands up.

Ruby curtseys before her.

Etain gestures at the door with her hand.

Etain nods at Ruby.

The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.

Ruby says 'Greetings, Etain Sedai.'

Etain says 'Good day, Accepted.'

Etain sits down and rests on a chaise lounge.

Etain says 'Have a seat, if you wish.'

Ruby says 'Thank you.'

Ruby sit down on a stout oaken chair.

Ruby says 'I was tasked by my mentor, Aloisa Sedai, to speak with sisters of other Ajahs.'

Etain nods.

Etain says 'I see.'

Ruby says 'I am curious about the mission of the Yellow Ajah.'

Ruby says 'And how it intersects with that of the Red Ajah.'

Etain thinks for a moment.

Ruby says 'I suppose to help frame the discussion, I could be more specific.'

Ruby says 'As you know, the mission of the Red Ajah is to prevent the misuse of the One Power.'

Etain says 'Indeed. In particular, by locating and gentling men who can channel, before they become
a danger to themselves and others.'

Ruby bobs her head in agreement.

Ruby says 'From what I understand, then Taint expresses itself in many forms. Can you possibly explain
some of them to me?'

Etain says 'Madness is the most common and visible form. To date, no form of Healing that can cure
illnesses of the mind has been found, so even after gentling, a man who has gone mad is doomed to
remain so.'

Ruby nods solemnly.

Ruby says 'So we are able to prevent them from causing further harm to themselves, but are not able to
reverse existing damage?'

Etain says 'Indeed. Once severed from the Source, the taint no longer effects them, but the damage
has already been done.'

Ruby nods solemnly.

Ruby says 'Are there other effects of the Taint other than their inevitable madness?'

Etain says 'There are. Men in whom the madness is far advanced have been known to decay in their
bodies. It is recorded that some madmen have died as very nearly walking corpses, rotten to the
bone.'

Ruby gasps in astonishment.

Ruby says 'What a horrible way to die!'

Etain nods grimly.

Ruby says 'Are those afflictions also irreversible?'

Etain says 'Potentially, they could be Healed, but getting close enough to Heal a madman is a
dangerous task in itself. A gentled man could be Healed safely, but at times the damage is already
too great. Fingers, toes, even whole limbs are lost to the decay, and Healing can only repair
damage, not replace what is gone.'

Ruby shudders.

Ruby says 'It really is a kindness that the Red Ajah seeks out such men before too much damage can be
done by, and to them.'

Etain says 'In many ways, yes. Unfortunately, men who are gentled often do not live long afterwards.
As with stilling, the loss of the Source is too great to bear.'

Etain says 'Most men go off to die alone, those who do not simply end themselves.'

Ruby says 'Oh, I didn't know that occurred so often.'

Etain nods in agreement.

Etain says 'There are few who are strong enough to bear the loss of what, in truth, feels like life
itself. Nevertheless, it is necessary, however harsh it might be, because a madman wielding the
Power can do untold damage without even realizing what he does.'

Ruby nods in agreement.

Ruby says 'I have fought a few such men and while I pity their state of affairs, they cannot be
allowed to continue as they are.'

Etain nods at Ruby.

Etain says 'Indeed. The Red does valuable work, and the Yellow attempts to complement that work in
whatever way possible. Some day, we may even discover a cure for the madness.'

Ruby says 'It would be nice for them to be able to lead a somewhat fulfilling life after gentling if
one is found. I've been Shielded before by Sarinda Sedai in our duels and can't imagine having to
live like that permanently.'

Etain nods in agreement.

Ruby says 'You've given me a lot to think on, Etain Sedai. I really appreciate your time.'

Etain nods.

Etain says 'I'm glad I could help.'

Etain thinks.

Etain says 'While you are here...'

Etain says 'I did receive your letter, regarding your health inspection of...Imre Stand, I believe
it was?'

Ruby says 'Oh! It was, indeed.'

Etain says 'Ah, Imre Stand and Cold Rocks Hold, in the Aiel Waste.'

Etain ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Ruby says 'That was an exciting journey.'

Etain says 'Ordinarily, I wouldn't consider an Aiel hold as a city, but I am intrigued. The Aiel are
notoriously reluctant to have dealings with Aes Sedai. What suggestions would you offer, concerning
White Tower assistance to the Aiel?'

Ruby thinks really hard.

Ruby says 'Since I assume they would be averse to assistance using the Power, then perhaps bringing
herbs and poultices to them?'

Etain says 'Possibly. The Aiel, as a rule, tend do avoid dealing with Aes Sedai in general if they
can. I am not sure why. The Tower Library may have something to say on the subject, but if so, I
can't claim to have read it.'

Ruby says 'I assume they wouldn't be interested in a lecture about how sickness spreads in confined
spaces.'

Ruby ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Etain smiles faintly.

Etain says 'Likely not. It seems to me that an indirect approach might be best. How could we best
achieve that?'

Ruby says 'I've spent a good amount of time sorting books in the library, and I don't think I've seen
one related to the subject.'

Ruby says 'Leading by example? If we have Tower Guards or Gaidin in the area assisting them against
the Shadow, they will inevitably need to clean and bandage their wounds, as well as just go through
their daily ablutions.'

Etain ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Etain says 'Possibly. I understand that there are certain classes of people that they will have
dealings with. Perhaps we could enlist their assistance?'

Ruby says 'Oh, are you referring to the merchants and gleemen?'

Etain says 'Yes, merchants, particularly peddlers, and gleemen. They will not harm them, and will
even trade with them.'

Etain says 'The Traveling People are the only others that I know of, and the Aiel avoid them as
though they were a plague.'

Ruby says 'I didn't know the Traveling People went into the Waste, but I suppose it makes sense given
their name.'

Ruby giggles.

Etain nods in agreement.

Ruby says 'What kind of assistance could we provide using peddlers and gleemen as proxies?'

Ruby says 'Maybe oral care? Nothing causes a foul mood like a bad tooth.'

Etain says 'Remedies, texts on promoting health, other supplies, perhaps?'

Ruby says 'Ahh, that does make sense.'

Ruby says 'Are Accepted usually tasked with gathering such remedies and supplies?'

Ruby says 'I would be more than happy to assist the Yellow Ajah again.'

Etain ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Etain says 'That would be extraordinarily helpful, indeed. If you would find me four examples of
items that we could covertly supply to the Aiel, I would be very pleased. Think creatively, I would
be interested to see what you come up with.'

Etain smiles at Ruby.

Etain says 'In the meantime, thank you for your efforts on your first assignment.'

Ruby says 'It would be my pleasure!'

Ruby says 'Thank you so much for your time and knowledge, Etain Sedai.'

Ruby stands up.

Etain nods at a silver-haired Aes Sedai.

Ruby curtseys before her.
Etain stops resting, and clambers on her feet.

Etain says 'Light shine on you, Accepted, and take care.'

Etain gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Ruby says 'Thank you, and you as well, Etain Sedai.'

Ruby curtseys to her audience.

I approached Kali Sedai regarding how the Blue Ajah's mission intersects with that of the Red Ajah. An overview of the war between the Dragonsworn and Mayene is also discussed.

Point of view: Ruby
Main character: Kali

Malkier Gate
This large iron gate leads to the fallen kingdom of Malkier, now covered
up by the Blight. A large stone road runs east to west and to the south
is the inner wall that surrounds the Keep. Hunting parties often use
this gate to journey into the Blight.

An Illianer steed stands here proudly, its black mane glistening.
A Shienaran guard keeps watch at the gate.

Conservatory of the Blue Ajah
During daytime, bright light floods in from tall, arched windows set in the
eastern wall, which offer a view of the many spires of Tar Valon as well as
the eastern bank of the Erinin. On clear days, the peaks of the Dragonwall
can be seen, far away to the east. Bookshelves, tables, maps and charts are
all present as the Blue sisters prepare for whatever tasks currently occupy
them or as they plan business away from the Tower. On one wall hang two
large portraits of Ciel Sedai and Adaire Sedai, with white ribbons of
mourning tied into the latticework of the frames.

A chair made of red oak rests next to the table. [2]
A large desk made of fine, thick wood stands across the room from here.
Lady Kali Orfanos is sitting here on a stout oaken chair.
Reyne Verenhald (Linkless) is standing here.
A silver-haired Aes Sedai sits here, reading.
A Blue Sister is here, planning her next journey.
Anaiya Sedai of the Blue Ajah stands here.

Kali looks at Ruby.

Ruby curtseys before her.

Kali gestures with her hand.

Kali smiles at Ruby.

The door swings silently and shuts with a click.

Ruby says 'Greetings, Kali Sedai.'

Ruby says 'Excuse me, Lady Kali Sedai.'

Kali says 'Hello Accepted. I hear you did be a bit busy earlier up north.'

Kali says 'Kali Sedai do be sufficient.'

Ruby's cheeks are burning.

Kali says 'Have a seat.'

Ruby says 'Thank you.'

The desk slowly opens.

Ruby sit down on a stout oaken chair.

The desk slowly closes.

Kali grabs a sheaf of paper from a desk.

Kali peruses over a stack of papers.

Kali says 'I did be away from the White Tower for quite some time and only recently returned. So I
do be catching up, as it be.'

Kali says 'What did you wish to speak with me about?'

Ruby says 'I was fighting the shadowspawn in the north, but quite a few rallied to defend and thought
it would be a good opportunity to speak with you.'

Kali nods in agreement.

Kali says 'We already established that you wished to speak with me, aye.'

Ruby says 'My mentor, Aloisa Sedai, has tasked me with speaking with sisters of the other ajahs in
order to get more of a perspective on how their missions intersect with that of the Red ajah.'

Kali says 'A very wise choice to do so.'

Kali says 'Aloisa Sedai and I do be quite well acquainted with each other.'

Ruby says 'Oh, I'm glad. I've been very lucky to have her has my mentor.'

Ruby says 'From my understanding, the mission of the Blue ajah is that of justice and causes. The
mission of the Red ajah is to prevent the misuse of the Power.'

Kali says 'That do be the primary mission of the Red Ajah, aye. And while perhaps an
oversimplification of the Blue's mission, one that do be sufficient for someone who do be
apprenticed under another Ajah.'

Ruby says 'I'm not sure how I tie those two missions together other than at a superficial level.'

Kali says 'Well, first of all, all Aes Sedai share a common mission.'

Kali says 'The common mission of the White Tower and that of the Aes Sedai for the last three
thousand years.'

Kali says 'To see the world safely through the Last Battle and beyond.'

Ruby nods in agreement.

Ruby thinks really hard.

Kali says 'While the White Tower do be needing the Red and their specific mission in order to
prevent a second Breaking of the World, the Red do be also in need of the White Tower in order to
carry out its mission.'

Kali says 'How else would an Accepted such as yourself be able to receive the necessary formation to
become an Aes Sedai?'

A silver-haired Aes Sedai says 'You have been awarded 3 qps by Kitiara for induction tour and
alyssinduction'

Kali chuckles politely.

Kali beams a smile at a silver-haired Aes Sedai.

Ruby giggles.

Kali says 'I do be thanking you, sister.'

Kali says 'Wonder how long she did be waiting to say that.'

Kali looks at Ruby.

Ruby says 'Oh, I didn't think of that.'

Ruby says 'How the very infrastructure of the White Tower is required to support the missions of the
various ajahs.'

Kali nods in agreement.

Kali says 'Just like with the Greens. An army do be only as strong as its supply train, for
instance.'

Ruby says 'I suppose I took it's existence for granted.'

Kali says 'Once logistics break down, the ability to wage war do be severely compromised.'

Ruby nods in agreement.

Kali says 'This do be requiring order, which do be brought about by the Three Oaths and our laws.'

Ruby says 'Oh yes. I've certainly found myself ill-provisioned during certain hunts and had to
withdraw prematurely.'

Kali nods in agreement.

Kali says 'Exactly.'

Kali says 'On a practical level, our two Ajahs share another very necessary function. That being the
administration of warrants.'

Kali says 'While the Red do be charged with the investigation of men who might be able to channel as
well as the administration of MC warrants,'

Kali says 'The Blue do be responsible for the same administration of warrants for all other crimes
committed against Tar Valon and its people. '

Ruby nods eagerly.

Kali says 'And of course there do be instances where these interests align. '

Ruby says 'When I apprenticed to the Red Ajah, I was given permission to hunt male channelers, but it
is still forbidden for me to engage with all other warrants.'

Kali says 'I do be thinking that by now the war waged by the Dragonsworn against Mayene do be old
history, but do you be knowing anything about it?'

Ruby says 'I haven't heard of that war, except in passing. I haven't seen any documentation of it in
the library yet.'

Kali says 'you ought to be able to find some old proclamations regarding the events that came to
pass during that time. I did be an Accepted and then an new Aes Sedai during that period of time.'

Kali says 'First there did be the incursion of the false dragon from the mirror world, which
occurred around the same time as the Red began investigating the Dragonsworn as a potential
organization that did be aiding and abetting male channelers.'

Ruby furrows her brow.

Kali says 'The invasion from the mirror world of the portal stones did be an existential threat that
included a serious blow to the White Tower. The false dragon and his army used the One Power in
battle, and caused serious damage to the White Tower.'

Ruby says 'Oh my!'

Kali says 'And shortly thereafter, as if we needed any further confirmation of the dangers of the
use of the One Power as a weapon of war, the Dragonsworn went to war against Mayene. This do be why
we consider the Dragonsworn to be a criminal organization to this day.'

Ruby says 'Ahh, I've seen a few Dragonsworn around with warrants but wasn't sure as to the specific
reasons for them.'

Kali says 'you ought to be able to find the proclamations from the Hall.'

Ruby says 'It makes sense now if they went to war with a sovereign nation.'

Kali says 'A large number of these Dragonsworn turned out to be male channelers. '

Ruby frowns.

Ruby says 'If the Dragonsworn are a haven for male channelers, why hasn't the White Tower gone to war
with them?'

Kali says 'As for that, officially, the White Tower do be only at war against the Shadow.'

Kali says 'The Blue and the Red both advocated to go to war against them but ended up being limited
by the Amyrlin Seat at the time in what we did be allowed to do and no allowed to to.'

Ruby ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Ruby says 'Was the Amyrlin Seat at the time raised from the Blue Ajah?'

Kali shakes her head.

Kali says 'No, that did be Cadsuane Sedai, from the Green.'

Kali says 'The Red led the effort to demand her retirement, and they put forward Siuan Sanche, who
do be from the Blue.'

Ruby nods in agreement.

Ruby says 'I visited Cadsuane Sedai as part of a task from the Brown Ajah.'

Kali nods in agreement.

Kali says 'I hope her roses do be well tended.'

Ruby says 'They seemed quite nice, but I couldn't tell, as I don't have a green thumb.'

Ruby giggles.

Ruby says 'In any case, I take it our current Amyrlin Seat was also not interested in furthering the
conflict with the Dragonsworn?'

Kali says 'It do be seeming that little changed here (immortals nixed our attempts to get involved)
however the damage done to the Dragonsworn's reputation do be so severe that they do be hardly
around at all these days.'

Ruby nods in agreement.

Kali says 'A Tower warrant do be having ramifications beyond simply being unable to come to Tar
Valon.'

Kali says 'There do be significant problems with fighting up north, the inability to group -- and
with so many male channelers outed, the men themselves found themselves to be persona non grata in
most of the world after that. '

Ruby says 'I've definitely seen the inability to group cause issues. Particularly some of the Children
of Light, when they come north to fight the shadow.'

Kali nods in agreement.

Kali says 'Despite some significant pressure, we maintain those blanket warrants because to go back
on such an important Tower law do be inexcusable. '

Ruby says 'That sounds reasonable, given their crimes.'

Kali says 'The very core principle of the White Tower do be the understanding that the One Power
must be used responsibly by those with the ability to wield it. '

Ruby nods emphatically.

Kali says 'Perhaps one day Saidin might be free from the taint of the Dark One, but even if that day
do be tomorrow, the White Tower must still deal with crminals and those who misuse the One Power.'

Kali says 'Something which do be requiring vigilance from both the Red and the Blue. '

Ruby says 'I agree. People will always be people.'

Kali nods in agreement.

Ruby says 'So if I'm understanding you, Kali Sedai, one area that the Blue and Red Ajahs intersect is
that the Blue Ajah's mission to maintain the administration and infrastructure of the White Tower
itself is critical for the Red Ajah to be able to perform their mission.'

Ruby says 'And another is warrants, where the Blue Ajah is responsible for the administration of
warrants for all crimes committed in Tar Valon and against its people and the Red Ajah is
responsible for the investigation of male channelers.'

Kali says 'that do be a sufficient summary, aye.'

Ruby says 'I think I would like to learn more about the war against the false dragon from the mirror
world. You said there were proclamations available?'

Kali says 'While any Aes Sedai may warrant, just as any Aes Sedai do be able to issue a male
channeler warrant, both require investigation and administration, as well as those of pardons. There
do no be justice otherwise. '

Kali nods in agreement.

Ruby says 'Oh! That reminds me: Do all pardons go through the Blue Ajah?'

Kali says 'you ought to be able to find, if not proclamations, the entire history of the war against
the false dragon from the Mirror World.'

Ruby says 'Sorry to bounce around, but all of these subjects are interesting.'

Ruby's cheeks are burning.

Kali says 'Saniago Torres did be his name.'

Kali says 'Aye. All pardons go through the Blue.'

Ruby jots down the name.

Kali says 'Our laws require that an appropriate pardon task be given if requested by a wanted
individual, excepting extreme recidivism or situations where blanket warrants do be appropriate.'

Kali says 'for instance we automatically warrant Children of the Light and Dragonsworn.'

Kali says 'As well as the Seanchan, for the sake of them getting the flag in the Who list'

Kali says 'None of them do be eligible for a pardon unless they leave their organization.'

Ruby says 'I received a warrant from the Children of Light and the Seanchan before I ever saw them in
person.'

A silver-haired Aes Sedai says 'You have been awarded 2 qps by Tolza for a run away novice'

Kali nods in agreement.

Kali chuckles politely.

Ruby giggles.

Kali says 'Information on the who list do be considered In Character, and sufficient to issue a
warrant'

Anaiya Sedai whispers something to Kali.

Kali whispers something to Anaiya Sedai.

Ruby says 'Ahh, I didn't know that.'

Kali says 'much like how emotes do be sufficient reason to issue a warrant. A person pretending to
be a male channeler, for instance, do be treated the same as if he did actually be able to channel,
until determined otherwise.'

Kali says 'In fact I recall a case of someone who called himself a channeler on the globals purely
in jest, who carried a warrant until he submitted himself for gentling.'

Ruby says 'Oh, I wasn't aware of that either. It's reassuring that the Tower treats their laws
seriously.'

Kali nods in agreement.

Kali says 'We keep records accessible by Aes Sedai, Tower Guard and Gaidin regarding crimes and
pardons.'

Kali says 'The Red do be the only ones authorized to pardon for an MC warrant, received in error or
otherwise. In those circumstances we defer to the Red Ajah.'

Ruby says 'Oh, so male channelers are entirely under the purview of the Red Ajah?'

Kali nods in agreement.

Kali says 'Aye.'

Ruby says 'You've really clarified a lot of things I didn't know I wasn't clear on until we started
speaking, Kali Sedai.'

Ruby's cheeks are burning.

Kali says 'Any Sister do be able to issue a MC warrant, which gives an MC flag, by going to the
Amyrlin Seat. However to remove said warrant a Red Sister must investigate it.'

Kali says 'It do be also possible to get an MC warrant from certain Tower-affiliated mobs.'

Kali says 'In very rare circumstances, a person not otherwise known to us to be a criminal might get
the MC flag without getting a general warrant. But this do be very rare.'

Kali says 'Usually they get warranted for other crimes.'

Kali says 'in which case, unfortunately, the MC flag do be overridden by the general warrant in the list.'

Kali says 'To combat this the Red Ajah do be maintaining a list of known male channelers for the
world, and they periodically publish this list.'

Ruby says 'Oh! I heard Moiraine Sedai communicate that Petbe was a male channeler not too long ago.
She's still quite vigilant.'

Kali says 'indeed, she do be rather vigilant, and there do be Aes Sedai throughout the world that be
able to do the same.'

Kali says 'What other questions might you be having?'

Ruby thinks really hard.

Ruby says 'I think you've covered all of my questions, Kali Sedai. I really appreciate you spending
your time with me. I've learned quite a bit and now have some threads I'd like to pull on for
further study.'

Kali says 'Very good. I do be glad to hear this did be productive for you.'

Ruby smiles happily.

Kali says 'Feel free to come speak with me any time. My door do be always available to knock on,
unless I do be otherwise occupied, of course.'

Ruby says 'I'll make sure to write a summary for you.'

Ruby says 'Thank you, I most definitely will!'

Kali says 'If you wish, I do be happy to read it. '

Kali gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Ruby stands up.

Kali says 'If there do be nothing else, you do be dismissed for now.'

Ruby says 'Thank you again, Kali Sedai.'

Ruby curtseys before her.

I approached Everesta Sedai regarding how the Gray Ajah's mission intersects with that of the Red Ajah. Ruby's backstory is also discussed.

Point of view: Ruby
Main character: Everesta

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An overworked, grumbling scribe bustles into the room, scowling darkly.

The scribe says 'Everesta Sedai requests your presence in the Gray's Meeting Room, ruby.'

Finishing her errand, the scribe turns on her heel and scurries back the way she came.

Ruby hurries to the wing of the Gray Ajah.

Continuing Down the Hallway
Floor tiles in a multitude of gray hues cover the floor of this hallway,
alternating with white tiles marked with the Flame of Tar Valon. Each door
in the hallway has been marked with scales in gold for Sitters and silver
for other Aes Sedai. A large tapestry of a map during the time of the
Compact of the Ten Nations decorates the wall.

Door west: door

An Aes Sedai has arrived from the east.

Ruby knocks on a carveddoor.

The carveddoor is opened from the other side.

Meeting Room of the Gray Ajah
Large, leaded glass windows surround the room on all sides, save the
southern where a large doorway leads out into a antechamber. The room
itself is dominated by a large wooden table around which sits at least
fifty matching chairs, something close to a record for the White Tower. In
the middle of the table are an assortment of unused parchments, quill pens
and stoppered ink jars. A small stand off to one side of the room holds a
large number of glass cups and a large pitcher of chilled water. An
inscription in fine lettering is etched upon the windows.
[ obvious exits: E ]
Zone: White Tower Upper Floors
Door east: door
A large round table built from black oak dominates the center of the room.
Everesta do Alinye a'Covin is standing here.
A silver-haired Aes Sedai sits here, reading.
A Gray Sister walks here, considering her options.
Annoura Larisen is here, weighing your words.

Everesta smiles happily.

Ruby senses Everesta connecting to the True Source.

Ruby curtseys before her.

Everesta gestures at the doors with her hand.

The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.

Everesta says 'Welcome Ruby. Happy to have a chance to talk with you after your class.'

Ruby says 'Hello, Everesta Sedai.'

Ruby smiles happily.

Everesta glances around the room.

Everesta says 'Annoura, we need more chairs.'

Annoura Larisen glances around the room.

Annoura Larisen is here, weighing your words.

Annoura Larisen says 'Yes, it does appear we are short a few for this meeting.'

Annoura Larisen steps out, then returns with an Accepted following close behind.

Annoura Larisen looks over her shoulder at the girl.

Annoura Larisen says 'Child, help us move some of these chairs around the table.'

A dutiful Accepted curtseys gracefully. 'Yes, Aes Sedai.'

A dutiful Accepted grabs a chair and quickly moves across the room.

A dutiful Accepted makes her way towards another and shuffles it into place.

A dutiful Accepted dips into a final curtsy and leaves with haste.

Everesta smiles happily.

Everesta says 'That's better.'

Annoura Larisen is here, weighing your words.

Everesta gestures toward a chair at the table.

Everesta looks at Ruby.

Ruby says 'Oh, that's quite nice.'

Everesta says 'Take a seat Ruby.'

Ruby sit down on a stout oaken chair.

Everesta moves to a chair nearby.

Everesta sits down on a stout oaken chair.

Everesta says 'Tell me Ruby, you've focused your class on targeting and you're looking to join
the...Red Ajah? I believe.'

Everesta says 'What drives you in that direction?'

Ruby says 'That's correct, Everesta Sedai.'

Ruby says 'I found myself drawn to the Red Ajah after witnessing my uncle's return from war.'

Everesta says 'And where are you from, Accepted?'

Ruby says 'From a farm near Saldaea, Aes Sedai.'

Everesta nods at Ruby.

Everesta says 'So tell me more about this return and this draw. In Saldaea war would be perpetual?'

Ruby says 'When my uncle returned from war in Ghaeldan as a sword for hire, he was haunted. His face
was sunken and he had a hollow look in his eyes.'

Everesta nods, eyes recognizing the description.

Ruby says 'He would drink every night. One night when he was particularly deep in his cups he told me
that he could hear voices when there were none.'

Ruby says 'And he would see shadows moving in brightly lit rooms.'

Ruby shivers uncomfortably.

Ruby says 'He spoke of a battle where he was caught off guard and was sure he would perish. '

Everesta leans forward in interest.

Ruby says 'He thrashed and strained, trying to find some way to survive. '

Ruby says 'While yearning and and grasping for help, he said he felt a power within him that he could
bend to his will. The trolloc caught fire, with nothing but its boots remaining.'

Ruby says 'He admitted that he had never felt dirtier and couldn't seem to wash it away.'

Everesta says 'It takes a discerning ear to hear the descriptions of his ailments and not
immediately jump to conclusions, what did you do as a child? Did you know what it meant?'

Ruby says 'I was quite frightened, but I also wasn't sure if he was simply telling me a scary story.
He used to come home and regale us with tales and would always jump up and scare us at the end.'

Ruby says 'But he didn't jump up at the end of this one. He just went back to drinking.'

Ruby says 'I didn't know what his story meant at the time, no.'

Everesta nods at Ruby.

Ruby says 'But I think someone overheard him, since ladies from Tar Valon, which I have since learned
were of the Red Ajah collected him.'

Everesta says 'And it was after learning who they were that you went searching?'

Ruby says 'Yes, Everesta Sedai. I wanted to find out if he was okay after they took him.'

Everesta says 'It's a hard question to ask and a hard answer to find.'

Ruby nods solemnly.

Everesta says 'You did not begrudge what you learned and when you learned it?'

Ruby says 'I wasn't able to find him in Tar Valon. The last I heard, he was wandering the streets of
Maradon, begging for coins. I've thought about what happened to him and how he has ended up, I felt
sympathy for his plight.'

Ruby says 'But he could not continue as he was.'

Ruby says 'It was a kindness, what was done to him, even if he wouldn't see it that way.'

Everesta says 'The common ending is likely. It would be uncommon to find him still living. A heavy
kindness. A kindness not many of us would graciously accept.'

Everesta sighs loudly.

Everesta says 'Would it be a different world and a different poison that the Yellow could surmount.'

Ruby says 'I have only experience being shielded from Saidar while sparring with Sarinda Sedai. I
cannot imagine it being permanent.'

Everesta says 'No, I should think none of us can. '

Everesta says 'And yet here you are, to offer such a kindness to others.'

Everesta says 'Do you feel that your experience with your uncle has you driving more towards the
edge of the Blight? Or is that a side consequence of the limited channeler spottings?'

Ruby says 'But he would have gone mad and done irreparable harm to everyone around him, including
those he loved. I am glad the Red Ajah was able to prevent that, and it was the reason I wanted to
join them in their mission.'

Ruby says 'Having grown up in the borderlands, I feel at home in the area. There have been many
darkfriends and dreadlords active recently and they tend to congregate there.'

Everesta nods at Ruby.

Everesta says 'Yes, the draw is always then to the frontlines, I imagine even now you hear it.'

Everesta chuckles politely.

Ruby's cheeks are burning.

Ruby says 'The border seems to endlessly call.'

Everesta says 'i did hear you in your class and I believe you have a good head on your shoulders
with regard to making sure that we do not simply send the curs running to hide and lick their
wounds, but invite them out into the open for more serious blows.'

Ruby smiles proudly.

Everesta says 'So tell me, it is the duty of an Aes Sedai to pass this knowledge or the duty of an
Accepted to learn this?'

Ruby says 'It was through my mentorship with Aloisa Sedai that I was able to learn those lessons.'

Ruby says 'I believe it is both. Aloisa Sedai passed the knowledge on to me and I was able to learn
and follow it.'

Everesta says 'It is more often a yoke than a leash.'

Everesta nods at Ruby.

Everesta says 'I hear you, and do you, Ruby, feel you are ready to don the shawl should you be
called to do so?'

Ruby says 'I do not know anything about the test for the shawl itself, but I have learned a tremendous
amount during my time as a Novice and Accepted. Aloisa Sedai, at the very beginning of my
apprenticeship showed me just how little I knew.'

Ruby's cheeks are burning.

Ruby says 'I thought the tasks she set were simple and would be quick and easy to complete. I was
utterly wrong.'

Everesta says 'The true sign of knowledge is the acceptance that every piece of it only reveals to
us that we know less than we thought we did. '

Ruby nods in agreement.

Everesta says 'It's a sign of growth to be sure, at the very least.'

Everesta says 'Perhaps I'll stand for you when the time comes.'

Everesta winks suggestively at Ruby.

Ruby says 'I find myself learning hard lessons every time I stand against those who abuse the Power.'

Everesta chuckles politely.

Ruby's cheeks are burning.

Everesta says 'Indeed, it is a terrible mistress, maybe worse than Aloisa.'

Everesta says 'Though many would argue otherwise.'

Ruby giggles.

Everesta says 'Was there anything else you had hoped to gain from meeting with me, Ruby?'

Ruby says 'There is, if you have a bit more time, Everesta Sedai.'

Everesta gestures toward you to continue.

Ruby says 'Aloisa Sedai tasked me with speaking to those of other Ajahs to see how their missions
intersect with that of the Red Ajah's.'

Ruby says 'I was hoping to gain some insight with how the Gray Ajah's mission intersects with the
Red.'

Everesta says 'Then I'll ask how your research has gone, what is the mission of the Gray as you
understand it?'

Ruby says 'From what I understand, the Gray's mission is to mediate conflict and interact with the
nations of the world at a high level.'

Ruby says 'They broker treaties and perform diplomatic functions.'

Everesta says 'It is true there are those of my Sisters in particular who find themselves doggedly
approaching treaties between this nation and that nation in hopes of furthering our hopes toward
Tarmon Gaidon and in furtherance of the objectives of the White Tower.'

Everesta considers this for a moment.

Everesta says 'Were there more of us we might have been called to act when some of the Red Sisters
found themselves with warrants in Emond's Field and Bandar Eban for breaking peace by chasing male
channelers there.'

Everesta says 'It is not t he world we live in though.'

Ruby says 'Oh my. I dno't believed I've heard of that happening.'

Everesta says 'You might say that while the Reds aim to protect us from another Breaking, the Grays
aim to protect us from another betrayal such as that at Manetheren.'

Ruby takes out her notebook and jots a note.

Everesta says 'We seek to end strife to be sure, and that starts at the nation level, but for my own
duties, my calling has always been to seek out those of other nations who travel our world and
engage in servitude and empathy in order to empower and acknowledge them as individuals.'

Everesta says 'We start by consensus in all things and we avoid drama through employed methods of
anonymity. This is the way to find consensus and maintain it.'

Everesta says 'Should you wish to avoid drama, defer the question being asked of you to the person
is asking the question.'

Everesta says 'And so, Ruby, how do you think that the Red Ajah and the Gray Ajah come together
between their different missions?'

Ruby thinks really hard.

Ruby says 'On the face of it, I would think they come together at the treaty level. If the Gray Ajah
is able to broker an agreement with a nation that the Red Ajah is allowed to hunt those who abuse
the Power in that nation, then it would avoid Reds from receiving warrants.'

Ruby says 'And the benefit being that the Reds provide this as a bargaining tool to the Grays that
they can use as an offer of security to the nation they're treating with.'

Everesta chuckles politely.

Everesta says 'It might surprise you, but nations rarely think they'd need us to resolve issues that
come to their land.'

Ruby says 'Hmm, that does surprise me a bit, but also makes some sense from their perspective.'

Everesta says 'And other ways that our missions intercept?'

Ruby wrinkles her brow in thought.

Everesta says 'Consider your uncle'

Everesta says 'Was it out of hatred that the Red Sisters took him to the White Tower?'

Ruby says 'No, it was out of their duty to serve.'

Everesta says 'And what drives both sides of that duty? The duty they held to your family, the duty
they hold to the world at large? And the duty they hold to the individual they seek?'

Ruby says 'It would be in their names themselves. As Aes Sedai, they are servants of all.'

Everesta smiles happily.

Everesta says 'And think upon that and our commitment to empathy.'

Ruby thinks really hard.

Everesta chuckles politely.

Everesta says 'I just mean in general'

Everesta says 'not right now or in response.'

Ruby giggles.

Everesta smiles happily.

Everesta rises from her chair.

Everesta clambers to her feet.

Ruby says 'Oh good. I was not sure how to tie all of that together, but I'll definitely have those in
mind.'

Ruby stands up.

Everesta says 'It's always a tumble that comes together as it rolls on.'

Everesta says 'You're there with the servant to all, but maybe not there with why we do it, nor with
what it means to do so to someone.'

Everesta says 'While your uncle may never forgive them, if he had killed you he may never have
forgiven himself.'

Everesta says 'True empathy is understanding that the curses you bear from a victim prevent them
from making those they live a victim, though the cost is steep from all parties.'

Everesta says 'It's a delicate balance, but worth considering, because its true pain that you
offer.'

Everesta's face adjusts from the topic into a lighter one.

Ruby says 'It is, and I recognize that there are real consequences to them and those they love.'

Everesta nods at Ruby.

Everesta says 'Something they may never recognize.'

Everesta says 'Well from this I've learned not to jump the gun and assume that when I see pieces of
PTSD they may be marks of channelers as well.'

Everesta says 'What's one take away you have from our conversation that you feel will guide your
choices as you continue on your journey?'

Everesta says 'That can be a thought from within or something from without, both are more than
valid.'

Ruby says 'I have learned to try to stand in the other party's shoes to see how my actions impact them
from their perspective.'

Everesta eyes brighten with a spark.

Everesta says 'That would help more than just you, pass it on.'

Everesta nudges Ruby suggestively. They have an understanding.

Ruby's cheeks are burning.

Everesta says 'Thank you for your time today Accepted Ruby.'

Ruby says 'I certainly will.'

Ruby says 'Thank you so much for your time and insight, Everesta Sedai. It was a pleasure speaking
with you.'

Everesta says 'And you as well, I look forward to seeing how far you go.'

Ruby senses Everesta connecting to the True Source.

Everesta gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Ruby curtseys before her.

Everesta smiles happily.
