A practical lesson on the acquisition and application of knowledge

Post by Sarinda » Mon Jan 17, 2022 6:36 am

In this scene, Sarinda asks Erulisse, the Brown Recluse, whether she has any tasks in need of assistance. Erulisse surprises her by taking her on two brief but memorable trips, and in doing so, challenges the Accepted to expand her understanding of what knowledge is and how the Brown Ajah might pursue it. Sarinda shares about her past mistakes and future aspirations.

Point of view: Sarinda
Main character: Erulisse
Passerby: Diotima

Tower Square
This side of the square is the southern section of the Tower Square.
In the center is the walled off White Tower. To the south a large
boulevard opens up leading to the Southharbor. To the north you see
the southern gate of the Tower grounds. The square continues east
and west.
A large banner rests here, depicting a map of Tar Valon.
[ obvious exits: N E S W ]
A marble bench, flecked with gold and bronze, adorns the floor.
An oil lamp, set in a steel cage, hangs from a high wooden pole.
An elaborately sculpted marble fountain splashes merrily.
A stout wooden barrel stands nearby.
Diotima the Wearied Novice is standing here.
A warhorse is here, stamping his feet impatiently, being ridden by you.
A man is here.
A gray palfrey prances skittishly nearby.
A shaggy brown mare stands here.
The Tar Valon town crier stands here, spreading the news.

Erulisse has arrived from the south.

You stop resting, and stand up.

Diotima curtseys before Erulisse.

You curtsey before Erulisse.

You touch your hand to your forehead, lips, and heart in greeting.

You say 'Good evening, Aes Sedai.'

You say 'If it pleases the Light, are there any tasks you need assistance with at this time?'

Diotima says 'Hello, Erulisse Sedai!'

Erulisse beckons you to follow her.

You nod in agreement.

You now follow Erulisse.

Erulisse leaves south.
You follow Erulisse.

Southharbor Boulevard
From Tower Square, Southharbor Boulevard leads to the docks and massive
mooring lines on the south side of the city harbor in the distance. A large
square just a bit further down the street towards the harbor appears big
enough to hold a small festival.
[ obvious exits: N S ]
A warhorse is here, stamping his feet impatiently, being ridden by you.
Erulisse Avehelm, The Brown Recluse is standing here.
A man is here.
A well-dressed man peals his bell, alerting people to the latest news.
A sailor is here.
A hunter from Illian searches for the fabled Horn of Valere.

You follow Erulisse.

Merchant Square
Perhaps the most crowded place in all of Tar Valon, the square is packed with
people shopping along Merchant Square. In the square is a fountain, which
some people lean against to rest or merely watch all that is surrounding
them. The White Tower lies a bit to the north, but people take no more notice
of it than the other buildings along the road.
[ obvious exits: N E S W ]
You feel an odd disturbance in the Pattern here.
A fountain is here, offering clear blue water to all.
A warhorse is here, stamping his feet impatiently, being ridden by you.
Erulisse Avehelm, The Brown Recluse is standing here.
An Illuminator's assistant stands here carrying some colored tubes.

You sense Erulisse connecting to the True Source.

You sense Erulisse is channeling saidar.

A bright slash of light dilates into a gateway to another place.

You blink your dark brown eyes innocently.

You stop riding a warhorse.

You start leading him.
A warhorse starts following you.

Erulisse steps through the gateway.
You follow Erulisse through the gateway.

The Hidden Closet
Rough wooden shelves line the walls of this tiny nook behind the wall.
Bottles and pots of various shapes and sizes are stored up high, while
several large crates and chests sit on the floor. A book lies open on the
floor and footprints disturb the thick dust that covers everything.
[ obvious exits: D ]
You feel an odd disturbance in the Pattern here.
A glowing portal hovers here forming a gateway to another place.
A dirty gunny sack lies crumpled on the ground.
Erulisse Avehelm, The Brown Recluse is standing here.
A warhorse follows you through the gateway.

You peer around into the shadows.

Erulisse makes a dismissive wave.

You say 'Where is this place, Aes Sedai?'

Erulisse says 'It is the lair of a group of assassins'

You blink your dark brown eyes innocently.

Erulisse says 'But not to worry, they won’t trouble us just yet'

You nod slowly.

Erulisse says 'What do you know of the goals of the Brown Ajah?'

You consider Erulisse’s question for a moment.

A glowing portal fades from existence.

You say 'From the lessons I have taken so far, if it pleases the Light, it is my understanding that the Brown Ajah seeks to recover lost knowledge from before the Breaking of the World.'

Erulisse nods in agreement.

You say 'And to use that knowledge for the aid of the Tower, or record it or keep it secret for safekeeping, as necessary.'

Erulisse says 'A simplistic understanding, but good enough for our purposes'

A warhorse flickers its ears.

You blush faintly.

Erulisse says 'Part of being a Brown and being an Aes Sedai is learning ways to uncover knowledge'

You listen to Erulisse attentively and nod.

You draw a razored falcata from a sword sheath with a flash of steel.

Erulisse says 'It is important to develop skills which will help you in gathering information'

You nod decisively, your jaw set stubbornly.

Erulisse says 'Sometimes this is done in a library with a book'

Erulisse says 'Sometimes at dinner with a cunning question'

You flash a playful grin.

Erulisse says 'And sometimes you will have to get your hands dirty'

Erulisse says 'To which end...'

You peer around into the shadows.

Erulisse says 'Take a look at the trapdoor in the floor there'

You nod in agreement.

Look down
The trapdoor is closed.

You tilt your head curiously.

open trapdoor
It seems to be locked.

You say 'Hmm. Locked.'

Erulisse nods in agreement.

Erulisse says 'Remove your gloves'

You stop using a sturdy pair of full leather gauntlets.

Erulisse says 'When you are first learning to work with locks, its best to be barefingered.'

You nod slowly.

Erulisse says 'Eventually you will develop sensitivity in your fingers'

Erulisse says 'You might find it helpful to embrace the Source, it will make the sensations sharper.'

Erulisse kneels carefully down and brushes dirt away from the trapdoor.

You nod in agreement.

You feel the flows of saidar coursing through her body.

Erulisse says 'Right now try to manipulate the third tumbler'

You study Erulisse closely. You comment while observing, 'My hands have known callouses, Erulisse Sedai, from my time among my people.'

Erulisse says 'Feel with your fingertips for the click of the tumbler setting home'

You nod in agreement.

Erulisse nods in agreement.

Erulisse says 'I taught Lys Sedai this same lesson'

turn third tumbler
Ok.

Turn it yes, but to which number??

Erulisse grins evilly.

look tumbler
Ok.
There are many tumblers in this vast world. Which do you seek?

look third tumbler
Ok.

You ponder life, the universe, and everything.

Erulisse says 'try to turn the third tumbler to a number'

You nod in agreement.

turn third tumbler 5
Ok.
Turn it yes, but to which number??

Erulisse adjusts your fingers on the tumblers.

third tumbler 5
Arglebargle, glop-glyf!?!

You say 'Hmm'

Erulisse tells you 'turn third tumbler to 1'

turn third tumbler to 1
Ok.
You spin the third tumbler until a 1 shows on its face.

You smile happily.

Erulisse says 'Did you feel a click?'

You nod in agreement.

You say 'Yes!'

You say 'It shows a 1 on its face'

Erulisse says 'Ok turn it to two'

turn third tumbler to 2
Ok.
You spin the third tumbler until a 2 shows on its face.

Erulisse nods in agreement.

Erulisse says 'Now three'

turn third tumbler to 3
Ok.
Turn it yes, but to which number??

turn third tumbler to 3
Ok.
Turn it yes, but to which number??

You say 'Hmm'

You say 'It seems stuck or jammed.'

You say 'Or perhaps I am not quite doing it right.'

You draw down your thin eyebrows into a frown.

Erulisse frowns.

Erulisse tells you 'try four'

turn third tumbler to 4
Ok.
You spin the third tumbler until a 4 shows on its face.
You hear a loud click as the tumbler settles into place.

You nod in agreement.

You say 'Aha!'

Erulisse says 'There, the click'

You smile warmly.

Erulisse says 'The third tumbler is in place'

Erulisse says 'Now repeat it with the fourth tumbler'

turn fourth tumbler to 1
Ok.
You spin the fourth tumbler until a 1 shows on its face.

turn fourth tumbler to 2
Ok.
You spin the fourth tumbler until a 2 shows on its face.
You hear a loud click as the tumbler settles into place.

You nod in agreement.

Erulisse grins evilly.

Erulisse says 'Perfect'

Erulisse says 'All tumblers are in place'

Erulisse says 'Now all you have to do is turn the dial'

You say 'I see what you mean. It was easier on the second one.'

turn the dial
Ok.
The mechanism locking the trapdoor releases as you turn the dial.

Erulisse touches the dial.

Erulisse says 'And we are in'

Erulisse says 'Remain here a moment'

Erulisse opens the trapdoor.

Erulisse leaves down.

Erulisse leaves down.

An Underground Bunker
Hidden deep below the shack is a cavernous room furnished with old wooden
tables, chairs and bunks. Maps and notices are nailed to beams along the
wall and a rack provides storage for various weapons. Torches sit in
wrought iron holders at various intervals around the room, throwing off a
fitful light that barely pushes back the darkness.

You blush and ask as your stomach rumbles, 'Forgive me, Aes Sedai, but do you have spare food? I was regrettably unprepared for this trip with regards to food provisions.'

You say 'He is sleeping?'

Erulisse says 'Briefly'

Erulisse leaves down.

Erulisse shows a letter of writ bearing the seal of House Saighan to you.
The bearer of this writ has authority to withdraw 10,000 gold crowns
from the personal account of Lady Mirnavaere of House Saighan. Any and all
questions may be directed to the Lady in person at her manor north of the
city of Cairhien.

You blink your dark brown eyes innocently.

look Erulisse
An olive skinned woman with a smooth ageless face. The rigors of years in
prison have left her gaunt and drawn. Despite the wear her dark, widely
spaced eyes burn with the same dedication and purity of purpose.

Erulisse has a few scratches.

Erulisse is using:
a mirrored lantern
an oilstone
a full metal helmet and visor
a Kandori snowflake necklace
a thin, black chain
a decadent white leather dress with a plunging neckline
a backpack
a pair of steel-plated gauntlets
a gator skin bracer
a sharp, red stone dagger
a pair of ebony-steel plate greaves
a pair of thick metal boots

Erulisse says 'These assassins are involved in a conspiracy against the throne of Cairhien'

You say 'You are...very sneaky, Aes Sedai.'

Erulisse grins evilly.

You say 'I did not hear you return.'

Erulisse says 'Especially in all this steel'

Erulisse knocks her fist against her breastplate like a bell.

You nod in agreement.

You grin evilly.

Erulisse says 'Let me see if I have any food'

Erulisse says 'I do not'

You say 'I sensed a trolloc far northeast of here.'

Erulisse says 'Well we will just be a moment'

You nod in agreement.

Erulisse says 'In any case this place'

Erulisse says 'Is behind a locked door'

You nod in agreement.

Erulisse says 'This gunny sack here'

Erulisse says 'Is a handy object to locate'

Erulisse says 'If you want a quiet place to travel to'

You intone quietly to yourself, 'If it pleases the Light, all will be well. All will be well, and all manner of things will be well, if it pleases the Light.'

You nod in agreement.

Erulisse says 'You can gain access via a key'

You blush again and add, 'Ah, as for that, I unfortunately will not be able to take advantage of that trick. I do not have the Talent for forming the gateways. My strengths lie elsewhere.'

Erulisse says 'Weak in Earth?'

You say 'Middling strength, enough to form four weaves of the element at once, but that is all.'

Erulisse nods in agreement.

You say 'Despite Sheriam Sedai's best efforts.'

Erulisse says 'Still, the information may be of use some day'

You nod in agreement.

Erulisse says 'I find that no information is completely worthless'

You say 'Oh, on the contrary, I find it incredibly interesting.'

You say 'What is the name of this would-be assassin?'

Erulisse says 'The thug himself I do not know'

Erulisse says 'Though he is hired by a noblewoman named Minarevere'

You nod slowly, committing the name to memory.

You say 'House Saighan, you said? That was the name on the letter of writ?'

Erulisse nods in agreement.

Erulisse says 'We won’t take action against her at the moment'

Erulisse says 'But she has a manor north of the city'

Erulisse says 'Such civil strife is common in this unhappy kingdom'

You sense Erulisse connecting to the True Source.

Erulisse says 'Let us return to Tar Valon'

You say 'My hands may have known callouses before on my mother's raker, but I am not practiced with the Game of Houses.'

Erulisse says 'I grew up in a fishing village myself'

Erulisse says 'The ways of the nobility were something I had to learn'

You say 'Oh? Whereabouts, if it pleases the Light?'

Erulisse says 'I am from the Shadow Coast, Windbiter’s Finger'

You sense Erulisse is channeling saidar.

(Erulisse leads us to the Brown Ajah quarters.)

Study of the Brown Ajah
Tall, arched windows in the northern wall open to a balcony, providing a
choice view of the Erinin as it flows south from the Borderlands. Half the
seating in the room is drawn up around the windows, showing that the
occupants appreciate the panorama. The remaining seats are drawn up in
circles of six to eight, allowing Brown Sisters to discuss the furtherance
of knowledge, or new theories in an informal atmosphere. Colorful wall
hangings depicting still lifes decorate the pale white walls.

Danelle Sedai, sitter for the Brown Ajah stands here deep in thought.
You aren't in touch with saidar to release anything.

Erulisse closes the carveddoor.

You curtsey to your audience.

Erulisse peers after the departing blue.

You say 'I have not been to the Shadow Coast in a great deal of time.'

You say 'Or Tremalking to the southwest, for that matter.'

Erulisse nods in agreement.

Erulisse says 'The waters there are treacherous '

Erulisse says 'And the trade poor'

You say 'With the right ship, Aes Sedai, the sailing is manageable, if it pleases the Light.'

You flash a playful grin.

Erulisse grins evilly.

Erulisse says 'Let me show you something'

Erulisse opens the carveddoor.

You nod in agreement.

(Erulisse now leads us to her personal quarters.)

Entrance to the Brown Wing
Colorful tiles in seven colors come in from the spiralling hallway to the
south gradually petering out until only tiles in various hues ranging from
beige to dark chocolate remain. Decorated with a frieze of intricately
carved redwood leaves and fruits, this is the entry hall of the Brown Ajah
wing. Just off the corridor a stairwell offers a quick way to reach the
Tower's other levels. A portrait of a woman with the staff and stole adorns
the wall, lit by the light of two gilded wall lamps.

Erulisse says 'enter'

A bright slash of light dilates into a gateway.

Erulisse steps through the gateway.

You step through the gateway.

Before a Storm Wracked Promontory
A long promontory of jagged stone extends into the Aryth ocean shrouded in
a perpetual mist driven up as the gray waters pound against the granite. At
the western tip, among the high rocks, a strange and foreboding house
nestles, a high pitched roof of dark red tiles thrusting up towards the
lowering sky. A brave or foolish soul might reach it along a narrow path of
spray slicked rock.

Erulisse pulls her hood against the sea spray.

weather
The temperature is about 0 degrees.
The sky is lightly snowing, and a strong wind comes from the south.

Erulisse leaves west.
You follow Erulisse.

A Strange High House Among the Sea Cliffs
Nestled high among imposing granite cliffs is a large, strange house. The
lower of its two stories is of carefully mortared fieldstone, dusted with
green flecks of hardy sea moss. The upper story stretches towards the sky,
half timbered with dark oak surmounted by red ceramic tiles that slope to
an ominous peak. Light flickers from several windows, refracted into
strange shifting hues by mist and sea spray that surround the place.
Twisted trees of uncertain species cling to the thin soil.

The Foyer
In contrast to the grim exterior, the foyer is bright and cheerful. A large
fireplace dominates the back wall, in which a flame shimmers with no
visible source of fuel. The floor is a beautiful honey colored wood which
has been laid in an attractive herringbone pattern. Several paintings hang
on the plastered walls, though no particular theme is evident. A small nook
disfigures one of the walls. Stairs curve upwards to the second story.

Erulisse closes the oakdoor.

Erulisse beams a smile at an owl.

You smile at it.

Erulisse says 'This is Sofia'

Erulisse says 'Trying to get all wet and flap around in the library no doubt'

Erulisse leaves up.
You follow Erulisse.

The Study
To call this room a study would be a gross understatement. Shelves reach to
the high ceilings, stacked to near capacity with bound codexes and neatly
arranged scrolls. Among the books, at seemingly random intervals, lay a
baffling array of curious, ranging from strange brass instruments to small
works of statuary or carvings. In the center of the room sits a large desk,
covered in books, half written notes, and writing paraphenalia. A door at
the back of the room leads up a shallow flight of stairs.

A quiet servant awaits instructions from his master.

Erulisse leaves west.

A Grand Chamber
This living chamber is perhaps the most impressive in the strange house. The
floor is tiled in an elaborate mosaic depicting a white flame. In the
center of the room an artfully tended olive tree reaches towards the high
ceiling. The ceiling above is rendered into a chart of the stars, inset
with polished onyx and semi precious stones. A large floor to ceiling
window provides a stunning view of the storm tossed Aryth beyond. A large
room is built into one wall serving as a vault.
[ obvious exits: E ]
Erulisse Avehelm, The Brown Recluse is standing here.

Erulisse says 'Take a look at the window'

You say 'I do not know this place, Erulisse Sedai. Where have you brought us?'

Look window
The large window provides an incredible view of the Aryth Ocean. The grey
green sea surges beneath a storm sky, the waves ripped to white caps before
crashing on the rocks far below.

You gasp in astonishment.

Erulisse says 'We are on the Shadow Coast'

You smile happily.

Erulisse says 'This is my home, my village is just around the headland'

You sigh longingly at the sea.

Erulisse says 'I used to play here as a girl'

You say 'By my father's heart, but it is good to see the Aryth Ocean again.'

Erulisse smiles happily.

Erulisse says 'I thought you might feel that way'

Erulisse says 'Quite a trial to be so far from the Sea'

You say 'I was born at sea, near the Isle Somera, many years ago. It feels like an Age.'

You add softly, 'Before the Seanchan came, and changed everything.'

Erulisse scowls darkly.

Erulisse points to a small spot of turbulence out at the mouth of the bay.

Erulisse says 'I burned a Seanchan ship there two years ago'

Your eyes widen.

Erulisse says 'Judging by the rigging she had just made the passage from Seandar'

You say 'Their...damane are very, very dangerous.'

You spit at the word.

Erulisse nods in agreement.

Erulisse says 'Dangerous enough to make me feel threatened'

You nod enthusiastically in agreement.

Erulisse says 'And to kindle fire in her canvas'

Erulisse says 'She lost way and struck the rocks'

Erulisse says 'Then burned to the waterline'

Erulisse says 'I cannot say it displeased me'

Erulisse says 'The villagers here about sometimes light fires to wreck ships'

Erulisse says 'But I was happy enough to see them carry off everything that floated ashore'

You nod sadly. 'The Atha'an Miere refer to ships as "he", and it does sadden me to hear that such a ship needed to be wrecked. But if it pleases the Light, I am glad that you are well, and that you slowed the Seanchan even a little.'

You say 'Honestly, Aes Sedai, the last time I saw Seanchan I fled in terror. I was not even a member of the Tower then, not yet.'

Erulisse says 'Here you will learn enough to be a match for any damane'

Erulisse sneers.

Erulisse says 'They are hammers, but no hammer is a match for a properly tempered blade'

Erulisse says 'Have you spoken to Lys Sedai since you arrived? Your clans don't have bad blood or anything?'

You say 'I have not met her, I am sorry. But I am of Clan Shodein.'

You nod in agreement.

Erulisse says 'I don’t know her clan'

Erulisse says 'But she is similarly ill disposed towards Seanchan'

You speak with words sharp as bared steel, 'I will not let them harm me, or others, again, if it pleases the Light.'

Erulisse says 'Has some plan to change the weather'

Erulisse says 'So that their ships cannot fight the trades without being swept far to the south'

You nod decisively, your jaw set stubbornly.

Erulisse says 'More nautical than I can follow'

You say 'I have met few among the shorebound who admire or understand the sea like my people, but as you have said, knowledge comes with experience and to those who seek it.'

Erulisse says 'My people are shallow water sailors compared to your folk'

Erulisse grins evilly.

You say 'If it pleases the Light, Erulisse Sedai, why did you approach the Brown Ajah? What knowledge, and its pursuit, interests you?'

An owl has arrived from the east.

You smile happily.

Erulisse says 'She is curious, I don’t often have guests'

You nod in agreement.

Erulisse says 'I have always been drawn to secrets'

You kneel down and gently pet the owl. 'My apologies, Sofia, I have no treats for you.'

Erulisse says 'I like to understand and to know'

You nod at her.

Erulisse says 'Just as well, she mostly eats mice'

Erulisse grins evilly.

You chuckle politely.

Erulisse says 'The Brown Ajah was always a natural choice for me'

You nod slowly in contemplation.

Erulisse says 'I like knowledge and to find applications for it'

Erulisse says 'Some Browns are librarians, others historians, I am a seeker of knowledge'

Erulisse says 'Have you given thought to your Ajah as yet?'

You ponder life, the universe, and everything.

Erulisse places her finger against the glass, feeling the chill blowing off the ocean.

You say 'If it pleases the Light, there are a few whose mission resonates with me. I am still exploring and trying to learn more about them, so I can see the path before me.'

Erulisse nods in agreement.

Erulisse says 'Which Ajah have you considered?'

You admit, 'But to date, I have found the mission of the Red Ajah to be closely aligned to my values and goals.'

Erulisse nods in agreement.

Erulisse says 'Understandable'

Erulisse says 'Those who have faced damane have a keen understanding of the dangers of the abuse of the Power'

You nod, your face darkening.

You say 'If I could pick one thing to learn in the Tower, it would be how to protect myself, but more importantly, to protect others, from the harms that the One Power can cause.'

Erulisse nods in agreement.

Erulisse says 'A noble goal'

You say 'There is also a part of my past, before the Seanchan even, that perhaps started me in that direction.'

Erulisse says 'Oh?'

You frown.

You shift uncomfortably and nod. 'I was an apprentice to the Windfinder on a raker, my mother's as my Sailmistress. And there was a young man who was attracted to me, although I saw him as a friend.'

Erulisse nods sympathetically.

You say 'When we were young adults, he began...changing. Acting unusually. Becoming agitated easily.'

You look out the window.

An owl flaps its wings and begins to fly.

Erulisse says 'I am guessing it was more than the normal adolescent disturbances.'

You nod in agreement.

You say softly, 'I saw him channel. He called a wind, on a day when there was little.'

Erulisse sighs loudly.

Erulisse says 'What became of him?'

Erulisse watches Sofia flutter up into the olive tree.

You look down in shame. 'I should have told my Sailmistress, but instead, I hid the truth. I wanted to protect him.'

An owl flaps its wings as it comes in to land nearby.

Erulisse nods somberly.

Erulisse says 'Understandable'

You say 'Some time later, on a day when my mentor, the Windfinder Relanna din Nestille Full Tide, had predicted calm weather, we encountered a freak storm.'

You say 'Travor din Selen, the young man, he...'

You finish softly, 'He lost himself in the storm, and summoned a bolt of lightning, striking dead another deckhand.'

You say 'A bitter rival of mine, nonetheless.'

Erulisse winces slightly.

You nod in agreement.

Erulisse's nostrils flare in memory of the smell of lightning struck flesh.

You say 'I was weak. If I had intervened, Nylene din Torem would be alive today.'

Erulisse says 'It is a terrible thing for one so young to have to bear.'

You say 'The last I saw of Travor, he had chosen the shameful option of being cast out onto a barren island, with no equipment or provisions, and left there.'

You wet your parched throat.

You get a water skin from a backpack.
You drink the water.
You put a water skin in a backpack.

Erulisse says 'A grim fate, though perhaps better than being taken by the madness'

You say bluntly, 'Among our people, the more honorable option is to hold a large stone in your hands that is tied to you by rope, and to step into the sea.'

Erulisse nods in agreement.

An owl flaps its wings and begins to fly.

You say 'I have no qualms with men, Aes Sedai. But men who not only learn to channel, but those who seek to use the Power to incite violence and to wreak harm on the world - I want to learn how to stop them.'

An owl leaves east.

Erulisse says 'A worthy goal'

You say 'But as you say, the Red Ajah is not the only home to women with the skill and training to protect against the misuse of the Power, just as you are perhaps not like many of the other Brown sisters I have met so far.'

Erulisse grins evilly.

Erulisse says 'There are those among the Browns who think I run a little too Red'

You chuckle politely.

Erulisse smirks.

Erulisse says 'But I have seen more than most'

Erulisse says 'As, it sounds, have you'

You say 'I would welcome any lessons you could offer in those regards.'

Erulisse nods in agreement.

You say 'So far, most of my encounters with male channelers, as with damane, have ended with me running away panicked or knocked unconscious.'

You wince.

You say 'But if it pleases the Light, I am working to see that fewer of them end with such outcomes.'

Erulisse nods in agreement.

Erulisse says 'Sparring is good training'

You nod at her.

You say 'I have been working on my timing.'

You say 'Weave timing, that is.'

You say 'I also have been practicing a weave of Spirit (script) to mute my awareness of saidar being channeled around me, to emulate the feeling of a fight against a man.'

Erulisse nods in agreement.

Erulisse says 'Let us return to the Tower'

Erulisse sighs.

Erulisse says 'Much as I like to be close to the Sea'

You nod at her.

You take one last look longingly out the window.

Erulisse peers closely at an owl, trying to figure it out.

Erulisse says 'She is trying to get outside'

You fall down laughing.

Erulisse says 'Wait till it’s drier silly owl'

You pat an owl on its head.

Erulisse opens the oakdoor.

Erulisse leaves south.
You follow Erulisse.

(We travel outside back to the promontory.)

[ obvious exits: W ]
Erulisse Avehelm, The Brown Recluse is standing here.

You say 'If it pleases the Light, I could Weave the Winds to lessen the storm.'

A bright slash of light dilates into a gateway.

You step through the gateway.

[ obvious exits: N D ]
A warhorse is here, stamping his feet impatiently.

You blink your dark brown eyes innocently.

Erulisse steps out from the gateway.

You smile happily.

Erulisse shakes the sea spray from her coat onto the floor.

Erulisse grins evilly.

Erulisse leaves north.
A warhorse leaves north.
You follow Erulisse.

(We return to the Brown Ajah study.)

[ obvious exits: S ]
A large desk made of fine, thick wood stands across the room from here.
A warhorse is here, stamping his feet impatiently.
Erulisse Avehelm, The Brown Recluse is standing here.
A silver-haired Aes Sedai sits here, reading.
A Brown Sister is here, frowning pensively.
Danelle Sedai, sitter for the Brown Ajah stands here deep in thought.

Erulisse closes the carveddoor.

You say 'I may not have the Talent for Traveling, but Sheriam Sedai says that I have a Talent for Weaving the Winds. The shorebound call it Cloud Dancing, I think.'

You curtsey to your audience.

Erulisse nods in agreement.

Erulisse says 'A rare gift'

You blush.

Erulisse says 'Perhaps in time you may call up hurricanes as well'

You say 'I can, in fact, if it pleases the Light.'

You say 'Sheriam Sedai says that where I am lacking in Earth, I am gifted with Air.'

You blush faintly.

Erulisse says 'liveaward sarinda 2 qps for learning to crack a safe'

A silver-haired Aes Sedai says 'As you command, Erulisse Sedai. I will now award LIVE QPS.'

A silver-haired Aes Sedai says 'It is done.'

You smile happily.

Erulisse says 'Justified pride is no sin Accepted'

Erulisse says 'liveaward sarinda 2 qps for gazing into the Aryth'

A silver-haired Aes Sedai says 'As you command, Erulisse Sedai. I will now award LIVE QPS.'

A silver-haired Aes Sedai says 'It is done.'

You blush faintly.

You say 'Thank you, Aes Sedai, for your time and your valuable lesson.'

Erulisse nods in agreement.

Erulisse says 'I am afraid I must see to other business, but seek me out again Accepted, there are some other lessons that I can teach you'

You say 'Catisune Sedai, even in my brief meeting with her last week, told me that I should seek out the Brown for lessons. Apparently many of the Atha'an Miere Aes Sedai find themselves among your ranks.'

You raise your right hand to your lips. 'It is agreed, under the Light.'

Erulisse touches her own hand to her lips in a clumsy return of the Atha’an Miere gesture.

You smile warmly.

You curtsey to your audience.

Erulisse nods in agreement.

You say 'Is there anything else you need before I give you leave?'

Erulisse shakes her head.

You look to your horse apologetically.

Erulisse says 'Be safe Accepted'

Erulisse says 'We will speak again'

A warhorse stops following Erulisse.
Erulisse has disbanded the group.
You stop following Erulisse.

You say 'I will make sure he did not make a mess.'

lead warhorse
You start leading him.

Erulisse grins evilly.

You nod in agreement.

Erulisse says 'I opened a gate at king tide once and flooded half the floor'

You curtsey before her.

Erulisse coughs loudly.

You say 'May the Light illumine you, and see you safe to docking.'

Erulisse says 'One learns in many ways'

You blink your dark brown eyes innocently.

You laugh heartily, shaking with mirth.

Erulisse says 'Light go with you Accepted'

You nod in agreement.
