A novice's first visit to the Den

Post by Aloisa » Mon Sep 13, 2021 1:53 pm

Below is a brief log where Aloisa summons Chloro the novice to meet. The two chat about Chloro's background, and then Aloisa provides a brief overview of the Red Ajah. I think it is a nice example of RP between a novice and Aes Sedai, and some great emote work by Chloro.

Point of view: Aloisa, Sitter for the Red Ajah
Main character: Chloro, a recent novice

Den of the Red Ajah
This room reflects the cool nature of the Red Ajah, the furnishings just as
severe as the rest of the room. A gilded chair rests near the center of the
room, accompanied by an equally elaborate dark wooden desk. Chairs have
been drawn up to the tall, arched windows, which look over the western side
of Tar Valon, the western bank of the Erinin and Dragonmount beyond,
serving as a constant reminder of the purpose of the Red Ajah.
[ obvious exits: E ]
Zone: White Tower Upper Floors
Door east: door
A chair made of red oak rests next to the table. [2]
A large desk made of fine, thick wood stands across the room from here.
A woman with an ageless face stands here.
A silver-haired Aes Sedai sits here, reading.
A Red Sister sits here.
Galina Casban completely ignores you.

Aloisa gestures and the door slams shut from an unseen force.

Aloisa says 'Galina summon Chloro'

Galina Casban says 'I will send my scribe to summon her, Aloisa.'

Aloisa sit down on a stout oaken chair.

Someone knocks on the door from the other side.

Aloisa gesture with her hand.

A series of locks turn, and the door smoothly swings open.

Aloisa glances at the door and calls, 'Release the One Power and enter.'

Chloro has arrived from the east.

Chloro deeply curtsey's to the Aes Sedai near.

Aloisa channel Air towards the door.

Aloisa gestures and the door creaks and closes slowly.

Aloisa says 'Hello, child.'

Aloisa says 'I do not believe we have met.'

Chloro says 'Good evening Aes Sedai.'

Aloisa studies Chlora closely, her blue eyes cold.

Aloisa says 'You are quite new to the Tower, is that right?'

Chloro says 'We have not met yet, I would to. I am Chloro from Kandor.'

Chloro says 'Yes Aes Sedai I arrived a month ago.'

Aloisa says 'Hello Chloro from Kandor, you may call me Aloisa Sedai.'

Aloisa nods at Chloro, her curls swaying.

Chloro says 'Thank you Alosia Sedai.'

Aloisa says 'Well met, then.'

Aloisa smiles then, though it never reaches her eyes.

Aloisa says 'Tell me, child, how are you enjoying your time in the Tower so far?'

Aloisa says 'A month is not so long, but still you must have experienced some things.'

Chloro says 'It has been new, strange, and startling. Yet some things feel almost second hand.'

Aloisa says 'Well, it sounds as though you are adjusting well, then.'

Chloro says 'The tower runs much like a forge, everyone striding and striving with purpose.'

Aloisa says 'Make us some tea please, Chloro of Kandor.'

Aloisa gestures to the Sea Folk porcelain tea set on a tray near the window.

Aloisa says 'Oh, and tell me about this forge business while you do.'

Chloro smooths her skirts noticing a slight wrinkle from washing dishes

Chloro says 'Yes Aes Sedai'

Aloisa leans back in her chair, elbows planted on the arm rests and hands folded before her.

Chloro walks softly to the tea set admiring the workmen ship before adding tea leaves to a steeping
ball and pouring in some water. "May I channel Aloisa sedai?"

Aloisa says 'Yes, child. Thank you for asking.'

Aloisa senses Chloro connecting to the True Source.

Chloro steals herself and closes her eyes a moment embracing. As delicately as she can she weaves a
thread thin flow of fire slowing warming the tea as steam beings to rise from the spout.

Aloisa watches Chloro closely, studying her weaving.

Aloisa says 'Well done, child.'

Aloisa says 'Now about this forge?'

Chloro says 'My father is a blacksmith to the Kandori amry, I often helped with the bellows but I
was far better working in my Aunts Inn, The Blue Rose.'

Aloisa says 'Oh? And what did you do at the inn?'

Chloro finishes her weaving and releases slowly pouring two coups three courters of the way full to
leave room for milk or honey,

Aloisa eyes the cups.;say I take mine black, please.

Aloisa says 'I take mine black, please.'

Aloisa says 'And when you bring the tea over please have a seat.'

Chloro says 'I waited tables, and assisted guests with mundane things, towels and such. However my Aunt stated I had a flare for turning even the angriest of guests calm with a bit of debate. It happens often in that line of work.'

Aloisa says 'Calm through debate? How unusual.'

Aloisa gestures to Chloro to bring the tea over.

Galina Casban completely ignores you.

Aloisa says 'And have a seat as well, child. I'll only keep you a bit longer.'

Chloro places both coups on a serving try leaving honey and milk out of both. Turning steadily as not spill it she walks over to the Aes Sedai offering her a cup before taking hers.

Aloisa accepts the cup and saucer with a nod.

Chloro takes a stiff backed chair warmly smiling at Aloisa sedai.

Aloisa closes her eyes as she breathes in the smell of the tea.

Aloisa takes a small sip and lets out a contented sigh.

Aloisa settles the cup and saucer on the table, then turns her attention back to Chloro.

Chloro says 'So close to the blight, war and fighting tend to happen so often they say it seeps into the blood. Often when guests are riled up north a debate between the in and them tends to calm things as most think as if they are on a field of battle. Crowns can be won just as easily from a debate as a game of dice.'

Aloisa says 'Well said, child.'

Chloro gently lifts the cup from her saucer taking a sip of the tea careful to slurp in the Aes Sedai's presence.

Aloisa says 'And there are many avenues for someone who enjoys conversation and settling quarrels.'

Aloisa says 'Tell me, child, how did we find you? Or did you find us?'

Chloro says 'I try Aloisa Sedai though I have seen many accepted far more silver tongued than I.'

Chloro says 'Nianh Sedai advisor to the Queen stopped by the forge, my father had been honored with a commission of making a new sword and she wanted to be sure it was made properly so the Prince would not fel in battle. I had never seen an Aes Sedai before.'

Aloisa says 'How fortunate for us that Nianh found you!'

Aloisa grins, a predatory gleam in her eyes.

Aloisa says 'It is important we get girls with your ability into the Tower.'

Chloro says 'From what several Aes Sedai, I was more the fortunate one being a bit older than most the novices. Nianh Sedai said that I was already channeling when she found me. '

Aloisa says 'Ahh, good that it didn't end up killing you.'

Aloisa says 'Wilders need not be embarrassed or ashamed, child, many Aes Sedai touched the One Power
before they came to Tar Valon.'

Chloro closes her eyes for a moment before opening them

Aloisa says 'But there is danger in using Saidar before you are trained, as I am sure you have been told.'

Chloro says 'I have heard what can happen to those girls, it lead to a nightmare or two in the first week.'

Aloisa nods in agreement.

Aloisa says 'Very good for all of us that you are here, then.'

Chloro smiles at Aloisa.

Chloro says 'Being here I can hold true to the Borderlander oath we all swear. '

Aloisa says 'And what oath is that?'

Chloro says 'To fight till our last breath against the Shadow, for women to bear sons to strengthen our force against them. Being here I know that bearing sons is no longer a possibility should I progress, however wielding the power against the shadow and helping others to learn how might make up for that.'

Aloisa smiles warmly at Chloro, her clear blue eyes a little warmer.

Aloisa says 'Yes child, no sons or daughters to hold swords, but something much stronger to fight the Shadow.'

Aloisa sips from her tea once more, all the while appearing to weigh and measure Chloro.

Chloro says 'Forgive me Aes Sedai but, sons you do produce. Many of our men are trained here hoping
to become warders. The tower has done far more than most give it credit.'

Aloisa says 'Well, and daughters as well.'

Aloisa grins, a predatory gleam in her eyes.

Aloisa says 'Now I will have to attend to my work soon,' she gestures to the paperwork before her. 'But before I dismiss you, I did want to hear about what you have learned so far. Specifically, what do you know about the Red Ajah?'

Chloro says 'The Red Ajah I have heard most about besides the green. Many novices dream of joining their ranks in between chores.'

Aloisa grins broadly now, her eyes sharp as she watches Chloro.

Aloisa says 'Yes, it is good that many girls are aware of our work. Go on, child.'

Chloro says 'The Red Ajah stands ready not only for the last battle to but contain and if needed gentle a male channeler situation. I have been told the Red ajah are experts in combating other channelers both male and female alike.'

Aloisa nods at Chloro.

Chloro says 'It is also said but I not learned enough to know it tower politics's that members of the Red ajah do not take warders.'

Aloisa says 'Yes, child. By tradition, Sisters of the Red Ajah do not take warders. Though I do not think it is a defining attribute.'

Aloisa says 'On your first point, it is close to correct.'

Aloisa rises from her chair and takes on the manner of a teacher.

Aloisa stands up.

Aloisa says 'Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah are concerned with the misuse of the One Power.'

Chloro listens intently attempting to absorb the knew knowledge.

Aloisa says 'Apologies child, I was distracted.'

Aloisa says 'Yes, much of that ensures men do not break the world again'

Aloisa says 'We bring men who can channel to Tar Valon and ensure they are tried and gentled for the good of the world'

Aloisa says 'But we also focus on women who would misuse the One Power'

Aloisa says 'Wilders who learned tricks to twist people's minds, for instance.'

Chloro shudders at the thought. "I did not think that was possible not being trained."

Aloisa says 'Girls who survive can learn some.'

Aloisa says 'Still others are taught.'

Aloisa says 'Novices who fail, for instance, but are safe to be put out in the world'

Aloisa says 'May train women'

Aloisa says 'We tend to deal with matters such as that very quickly.'

Aloisa grins, a predatory gleam in her eyes.

Chloro says 'Very quickly I would imagine. I have never heard history of this happening.'

Aloisa says 'Unlikely you would in Kandor, child.'

Aloisa says 'And of course, you have heard of the Seanchan and their damane?'

Chloro says 'That would be the other source of nightmares Aloisa Sedai, I cannot bring myself to wear a scarf since hearing it, those poor women and girls.'

Aloisa nods in agreement.

Aloisa says 'It is truly a nightmare'

Aloisa says 'And we liberate the women when we can'

Aloisa says 'Some, unfortunately, refuse to go.'

Aloisa says 'It is up to the Red Ajah to deal with such women.'

Aloisa says 'Well, child, it has been a pleasure to speak with you.'

Aloisa claps her hands together, punctuating her comments.

Aloisa says 'But I must return to work.'

Aloisa says 'You are dismissed, Novice.'

Aloisa gestures with her hand.

The door smoothly swings open.

Chloro stands softly placing down the cup and saucer. "Yes Aloisa Sedai."

Chloro curtseys gracefully.

Chloro leaves east.
