Continuing Down the Hall
Doors painted with a different flower line the length of the corridor and a
large pair of matching doors to the south stand between this hallway and
the Yellow Ajah's solarium. The pale white floor tiles have been inlaid
with a gilded flame of Tar Valon. Mirrored perfectly on the east and west
walls are vases with yellow and white roses and above each vase, a
magnificent picture of a woman wearing a yellow shawl.

Solarium of the Yellow Ajah
Tall, arched windows offer a view of the island of Tar Valon and the
confluence of the river Erinin beyond Southharbor, as the river starts on
its journey to Tear. Pots and plants dot the balcony outside the windows.
Chairs have been drawn up near the windows and vases containing bouquets of
of yellow flowers have been placed nearby. Several desks and clusters of
chairs have been distributed around the room, allowing for informal
discussion of Yellow Sisters' research and studies.

Sumptuously upholstered, a gold brocade chaise lounge with gilded legs rests nearby.
A large desk made of fine, thick wood stands across the room from here.
A chair made of red oak rests next to the table. [2]
Lady Ashlynn Alessandri is standing here.
A Yellow Sister glides past.
Corele Hovian stands here with concern in her eyes.
Ashlynn gestures at the door with her hand.
Lorrah curtseys before her.
The door silently swings shut and lock with a soft *click*.
curt corele
Lorrah curtseys before her.
Ashlynn smiles at Lorrah.
Lorrah smiles happily.
Ashlynn says 'Welcome child. How are you today?'
Lorrah says 'Good Ashlynn Sedai'
Lorrah says 'And yourself?'
Ashlynn says 'I am doing fine. I just took a snack of some fruit and had something to drink. There
is some more left on the desk over there. Feel free to help yourself to a cup or something to eat.'
Ashlynn says 'Except the melon, leave the melon alone.'
Lorrah says 'I have eaten already Sitter, but thanks for the offer. I would love a cup of tea though,
if I may?'
Ashlynn says 'Feel free.'
Ashlynn says 'There is a set over there on the table.'
Lorrah glides up to the table and makes herself a cup of sweet, black tea.
Lorrah says 'with your permission Sitter?'
Ashlynn says 'You may.'
Lorrah sits down and sips her tea.
Lorrah puts the cup and plate on the adjacent table.
Lorrah folds her hands at her waist and assumes an aura of calm.
Ashlynn says 'I see you have been keeping quite busy. A lesson with Alison Sedai and Accepted Melosa
is just one of the most recent.'
Ashlynn says 'There are quite a few recountings of your attempts at learning combat, sparring with
various initiates and even a Gaidin. Impressive.'
Lorrah smiles happily.
Ashlynn says 'There is no doubt in my mind that you are taking my direction and others seriously.
Lorrah says 'I am applying myself to the best of my abilities Ashlynn Sedai.'
Ashlynn says 'My only concerns now are the following: The first is one that you will rectify with
time. I would like to see you do better in sparring. Win more, even.'
Ashlynn says 'The second one is something that we will rectify immediately. I have not noticed as
many individual one-on-one lessons with other Aes Sedai or Accepted.'
Ashlynn says 'Today, I am going to teach you about something called delving.'
Ashlynn says 'Are you familiar with the term?'
Lorrah smiles happily.
Lorrah taps her tooth with a fingernail, thinking.
Lorrah says 'I believe it's a means of seeking answers about what ails a person, Sitter.'
Ashlynn says 'You are not wrong, but it is so much more than that.'
Lorrah leans forward, expectantly.
Ashlynn says 'It is a weave that allows us to dive deep into an object or being to learn more about
it or them.'
Lorrah nods her head thoughtfully.
Ashlynn says 'In the context you provided, yes, it is a weave we might use to investigate the extent
of injuries that a person may be suffering.'
Ashlynn says 'On the other hand, it might be used to investigate the properties of an inanimate
object.'
Lorrah says 'An object has 'memory' Sitter?'
Ashlynn says 'Who is to say? That makes no difference.'
Ashlynn says 'Debate that with Alison Sedai.'
Lorrah ponders this revelation.
Ashlynn says 'The weave itself will allow us to learn more about the object and what it is comprised
of.'
Lorrah nods in agreement.
Ashlynn says 'Now, delving is difficult and can be dangerous when the uninitiated attempt to use it.
We usually disallow usage without direct supervision, and even then, we only use inert objects. At
least until you can demonstrate a better understanding and finesse of the weave itself.'
Lorrah nods at her.
Ashlynn says 'To someone without proper training, it is a very real possibility that delving to
discover an injury could result in further harm to a potential patient. We do not want that to
happen.'
Lorrah shakes her head vigorously.
Lorrah says 'That would be breaking the oath about using the one power as a weapon I believe.'
Ashlynn puts her hand up dismissively, indicating Lorrah to stay silent.
Ashlynn says 'In the Yellow Ajah, our Talent is Healing. Delving is the foundation of all Healing.
Without it, we may not be able to discern a patient's injuries or ailments as easily or
immediately.'
Ashlynn says 'By using this weave to investigate the patient's bodily systems, we can save precious
time and energy to come to a diagnosis. '
Ashlynn says 'In the most serious of injuries, time is of the essence. You may have heard of a term
called the "Golden Hour".'
Lorrah shakes her head.
Ashlynn says 'When someone is hurt badly, time is of the essence. The basic premise of the "Golden
Hour" is that in many cases, the highest likelihood of survival is reached if the patient receives
prompt medical attention.'
Lorrah nods in agreement.
Ashlynn says 'It depends on the injury. Someone bleeding badly from the place where their amputated
arm used to connect will need treatment sooner than an hour, while less serious injuries might be
able to wait up to an hour or longer.'
Ashlynn says 'We just use that as a term to define the time immediately after a traumatic injury.'
Lorrah considers this thoughtfully.
Ashlynn says 'Suppose, for example, we receive a patient complaining of intense pain in their abdomen. They relay that they were crushed by a large beam of wood while erecting a structure. We
cannot see it, but through delving, we find out that the man has severe internal bleeding.'
Ashlynn says 'With that knowledge, and upon acting immediately, we can provide Healing to the man
and ensure he survives.'
Lorrah nods in agreement.
Ashlynn says 'If we wait or take longer to diagnose through more traditional methods, like a wisdom
might, the man may perish due to the amount of time taken.'
Ashlynn says 'Do you have any questions up to this point?'
Lorrah says 'None thus far Ashlynn Sedai.'
Lorrah says 'Well, perhaps one?'
Ashlynn nods, her green eyes sparkling.
Ashlynn says 'Yes, go on.'
Lorrah says 'What about injuries caused by the one power, specifically male channelers?'
Ashlynn says 'Such as? Burns from fire? Penetrative wounds from flying icicles?'
Lorrah shakes her head.
Ashlynn says 'Elaborate please.'
Lorrah considers her words carefully, forehead creasing.
Lorrah says 'I mean what if there are weaves used that leave a residue, but one that is not detectable?'
Lorrah says 'fear, chill, contagion?'
Ashlynn says 'With enough skill, even trace remnants can be detected.'
Lorrah nods in agreement.
Ashlynn says 'Not all have the ability to do so.'
Ashlynn says 'Fear, chill, and contagion. I see where this is going.'
Lorrah shivers uncomfortably.
Ashlynn says 'Those three ailments in particular all have clear signs of being present.'
Lorrah says 'only some examples of weaves I have heard of being used by male channelers which do not
leave a wound.'
Ashlynn says 'For example, in the case of fear, the systems of the brain are affected. With
observation or delving, we should be able to discover that something is amiss, and provide a
diagnosis.'
Lorrah nods at her.
Ashlynn says 'With a bad chill, we should be able to tell by the symptoms of shivering and the
hampered ability to use the arms and legs.'
Ashlynn says 'With a contagion, we might probe the blood to find the culprit, and Heal it.'
Lorrah settles back in her seat, deep in thought.
Ashlynn says 'Those are all good examples of ailments that are not immediately fatal, depending on
the circumstances.'
Ashlynn says 'A contagion in the heat of battle is much more serious, for example.'
Ashlynn says 'If all the trollocs are dead, or the male channeler flees, then there is typically
less chance of fatality.'
Lorrah nods in agreement.
Ashlynn says 'In the case of the latter example, it might be more prudent to Heal someone suffering
from grievous wounds, if the person with the contagion is otherwise healthy.'
Ashlynn says 'I hope that answers your question. '
Lorrah says 'A disgusting affliction Ashlynn Sedai, and yes it does.'
Ashlynn nods, her green eyes sparkling.
Lorrah settles herself in her seat.
Ashlynn says 'With that, we will move on to the hands-on part.'
Lorrah nods in agreement.
Ashlynn gets a wooden bucket from a desk.
Lorrah senses Ashlynn connecting to the True Source.
Ashlynn lights up in a faint glow.
Lorrah leans forward in rapt attention.
Ashlynn holds a wooden bucket by the handle and closes her eyes.
Ashlynn concentrates deeply, as several fine threads of Spirit enter into the wooden bucket.
Ashlynn opens her eyes, and smiles down at her handiwork: a faint glow embracing the bucket.
Ashlynn says 'Now, you have probably been taught that channelling into objects is dangerous.'
Lorrah nods her head thoughtfully.
Ashlynn says 'It is a risk that can cause you great anguish if you are not careful.'
Ashlynn says 'This bucket, however, is completely inert. '
Lorrah looks up, eyes wide.
Ashlynn says 'It is safe for you to investigate using the One Power.'
Ashlynn gives you a wooden bucket.
Lorrah nods her head slowly, and accepts the bucket.
Ashlynn says 'Now, try to copy what I did. A fine thread of Spirit will start you off nicely.'
Lorrah considers the weaves Ashlynn Sedai used and prepares to copy them.
Lorrah puts the bucket on the floor, and closes her eyes for a second to gather herself.
Lorrah takes a deep breath, and opens her eyes.
Lorrah channels a thin thread of spirit, reaching towards the bucket.
Lorrah places the thread of spirit just so, copying Ashlynn.
Lorrah gasps, as a quick pulse of blue surrounds the bucket for a split second.
Lorrah smiles at her.
Lorrah says 'I felt something there'
Lorrah taps her lip thoughtfully.
Ashlynn says 'What did you feel?'
Lorrah says 'with your permission, sitter?'
Ashlynn nods, her green eyes sparkling.
Lorrah tries again, this time with more confidence in herself.
Lorrah weaves a slightly thicker flow of spirit, resting it on the bucket which glows faintly blue.
Lorrah closes her eyes, holding the flow.
Lorrah says 'I hear birds singing.'
Lorrah giggles.
Lorrah says 'they're in my hair!'
Lorrah says 'Ow!'
Ashlynn ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Lorrah says 'OW!! someone's chopping at my feet!'
Lorrah opens her eyes
Lorrah releases the flows.
Lorrah says 'Hmmm. I see it now.'
Lorrah says 'The bucket doesn't remember being a bucket, as that's not it's true state.'
Lorrah says 'It remembers what it was when it was alive.'
Lorrah nods at her.
Ashlynn says 'Interesting. I do not believe I have ever seen this result before.'
Lorrah ponders life, the universe, and everything.
Ashlynn says 'Typically, you can ascertain the makeup of the item. The elements involved, the
molecules themselves. The structure.'
Lorrah taps her lip thoughtfully.
Ashlynn says 'Either you have a wild imagination, or you have some kind of Talent that I am
unfamiliar with. I would ask that you seek out a Brown Ajah sister to discuss this revelation to see
if there is any documentation about it.'
Ashlynn says 'For now, though, we will continue.'
Lorrah nods in agreement.
Lorrah ponders over Ashlynn Sedai's words. A Talent?
Ashlynn nods, her green eyes sparkling.
Ashlynn says 'Let me explain what I can tell from delving into that wooden bucket.'
Ashlynn says 'I can tell the age of the tree when it was felled to make the wood that went into it.'
Lorrah listens closely.
Ashlynn says 'From my knowledge of the local surroundings, I can also tell that it was made from the
wood of a tree typical to the island of Tar Valon. Possibly from the southeast or northeast portion
of the island, specifically.'
Lorrah nods, pulling out a dog-eared journal and jotting down a few notes.
Lorrah says 'She was a pine Ashlynn Sedai.'
Lorrah nods to herself.
Ashlynn nods, her green eyes sparkling.
Ashlynn says 'Please, close your eyes. I want to try something.'
Lorrah closes her eyes.
Ashlynn channels a few threads of water into the bucket, creating a small pool at the bottom.
Ashlynn says 'Now, with your eyes closed still, try to delve into the bucket again and tell me if
you notice any changes.'
Lorrah prepares the weaves, just as Ashlynn Sedai showed her, delving the bucket.
Lorrah says 'Hmmm. Has it been raining?'
Ashlynn chuckles politely.
Ashlynn says 'What makes you say that, child?'
Lorrah says 'She's drinking now'
Ashlynn says 'Please speak plainly.'
Ashlynn says 'What do you sense?'
Lorrah composes herself.
Lorrah says 'The pine is swelling with water.'
Lorrah says 'I feels different than before. Before it was life, now it is just swelling.'
Ashlynn says 'Open your eyes, and examine the bucket.'
Lorrah opens her eyes and looks up.
Lorrah peers into the bucket, and nods thoughtfully.
Ashlynn gets a small metal key from a desk.
Ashlynn gives you a small metal key.
Lorrah examines the key
Ashlynn says 'Now, make another attempt, this time with this old metal key.'
Lorrah nods at her.
Lorrah deftly weaves flows of spirit into the key, watching it glow slightly blue.
Lorrah says 'south. it wants to go south.'
Ashlynn observes Lorrah's weaving, making mental notes about her technique.
Ashlynn says 'But what of its composition, child?'
Ashlynn says 'We are not working on your possible Talent, but merely learning about delving. Try to
focus on the composition.'
Lorrah says 'it's iron, but really old.'
Ashlynn nods, her green eyes sparkling.
Lorrah says 'the iron is made of scraps from lots of places, melted down to make that key.'
Ashlynn nods, her green eyes sparkling.
Lorrah says 'it wants to go south, but from there north?'
Lorrah looks puzzled.
Ashlynn says 'Probe further. Can you feel how hot the forge must have been before it was hammered
into its current form?'
Lorrah focuses harder.
Lorrah says 'yes, the heat was enough to melt steel.'
Lorrah says 'then it was poured into a mould'
Lorrah says 'and tipped into oily water to cool.'
Ashlynn nods, her green eyes sparkling.
Lorrah delves deeper.
Lorrah says 'someone filed it!'
Lorrah says 'filed the shape to make it fit a lock.'
Ashlynn says 'All things that you can easily surmise if you have an inkling of how a blacksmith
makes an item, but you can actually discern it with the power.'
Lorrah nods in agreement.
Ashlynn says 'Now do you see how this might be a useful ability, your own potential Talent
notwithstanding?'
Lorrah says 'very useful Ashlynn Sedai.'
Ashlynn says 'We practice and learn how to do this to find where things are going wrong within the
body's systems and organs in order to Heal people.'
Ashlynn says 'Of course, in that case, it is much more delicate work. A badly woven flow might prove
disastrous for the patient. This is why we practice first on inert objects.'
Lorrah nods in agreement.
Ashlynn says 'Should you decide to pursue an apprenticeship with the Yellow Ajah, it is an ability
that you must be prepared to practice day in and day out.'
Ashlynn says 'I do not believe I can say I have met anyone who had the ability not only to delve
into an object, but receive viewings of its history.'
Lorrah says 'may I practice this regardless of my eventual choice Sitter?'
Ashlynn says 'As I said before, I would suggest reaching out to a Brown sister and seek guidance to
learn more about it.'
Lorrah nods in agreement.
Ashlynn says 'If this is some long-lost Talent, it may prove especially helpful. I can already see
you wearing a yellow shawl, using that Talent to more easily figure out exactly how a soldier
received his wounds, enabling you to better Heal him.'
Lorrah straightens, eyes hopeful.
Ashlynn says 'However, if you do not choose the Yellow, you can certainly still use it too great
effect in many ways, I am sure of that.'
Lorrah murmurs a healer!?
Lorrah smiles happily.
Ashlynn says 'And regardless of your choice, you should practice this weave anyway.'
Lorrah smiles happily.
Ashlynn says 'If you end up joining the Brown Ajah, you might find your research concerns objects of
the power. You will need to learn how to safely delve and probe those objects without hurting
yourself or others.'
Ashlynn says 'For now, please only practice the weave under the direct supervision of an Aes Sedai.'
Lorrah says 'Yes, I can see how it would benefit many Ajahs, Sitter.'
Lorrah says 'Feels awfully strange though!'
Lorrah says 'Yes Ashlynn Sedai.'
Lorrah puts the key carefully back in the table murmuring "to go north, first you must go south?"
Ashlynn says 'I must tend to some other things. Please let me know what you find out from the Brown
about this possible Talent you have.'
Ashlynn says 'You may leave at your leisure.'
Ashlynn gestures with her hand.
The door smoothly swings open.
Lorrah shakes off a distracted look and stands, sweeping a deep curtsy to Ashlynn Sedai.
Lorrah says 'with your permission Sitter Ashlynn?'
Ashlynn nods towards the door.
Lorrah bobs a quick curtsy, and grabs the dishes on the table to take to Laras.
