A Quick Lesson on Battle Weaves

Vianca and Navani receive a quick lesson on battle weaves from Chloro Sedai and how the ability to pull flows may differ in parts of the continent.

Among Charred Mounds
Broken mounds of charcoal lie scattered and shattered across the lush grass
that coats the forest floor. Three charred circles in the grass are
spattered with tiny blue flowers, new life pushing through the scorched
earth. Looming elms stretch their limbs to the sky, their broad boughs
soaring overhead. Tangled briars enmesh the trunks, preventing passage.

Chloro dismounts her mare and looks back at the girls in banded dresses. One had some experience in battle. The other had very little. "You have been taught in your Novice training how to create with the one power. Now you will learn how to defend and destroy the shadow with it."

Chloro with her right hand she waves showing test scarecrows set up in a pack of 50, several younglings in the tree line to reset if needed. "These will be for use today. Now can anyone tell me the most common flows of the one power in the blight?"

Vianca raises her hand.

Chloro says 'Do speak up child, this is no classroom. '

Navani stands on the charred mounds in the traditional Accepted's dress, readying herself to tap into her training.

Vianca says 'Fireball and Flame strike, Aes Sedai'

Chloro says 'Those are weaves child, please name the five flows of the one power.'

Vianca says 'Earth, Fire, Air, Water, Spirit, Aes Sedai, my apologies.'

Chloro says 'Which are more common in blight?'

Vianca says 'Fire and Air, Aes Sedai'

Navani says 'I have not visited the blight, but I do know from reading that it is hot, so surely fire. Perhaps earth being the second most common.'

Vianca says 'Fire and Spirit, sorry, In my opinion.'

Chloro says 'A common misconception unless you are near a campsite. Earth and Air are the most common. Spirit is always with you. Fire and water less so. Given this, please use a weave on these test dummies that would take down five trollocs. Do not bore me with a fireball girls...'

Chloro says 'Vianca you may go first.'

Vianca rumbles the ground around a group of scarecrows with a powerful earthquake, sending them reeling.

Chloro crosses her arms watching, the long flowing part of her hair not in a top knot blowing in the soft breeze. "Navani?"

Navani gathers weaves of air that multiply in every direction above her until they shoot out toward the mass of scarecrows in a fury of wind and rain, throwing them into the air.

Chloro nods and turns to face the girls. "Showy, and costly for both weaves. Now do it using only Air and thread thin flows of other elements."

Chloro says 'in the same order.'

Vianca quickly weaves a tightly packed force of wind, blasting into a group of scarecrows.

Chloro says 'Navani?'

Navani breaths in deeply as she embraces the source, that sweet touch. She begins forming flows of air and water that crash down on the scarecrows in a storm of large hail.

Navani allows for a bead of sweat to trickle down her forehead as she releases the one power.

Chloro nods, "Both were good attempts, now you will learn two weaves to damage and one to distract. Pay attention. After I weave, I expect you to replicate the weave to the best of your ability." Nods at the girls then turns to face the test dummies having been reset by the warders. "Confusion can often be key to breaking the ranks of an enemy. Do not aim for the first in, aim for the middle and you send them running."

Chloro reaches out to the source and pulls a thread thin flow of earth with three flows of air and a thinner flow of fire. Raising one hand as a guide in front of her palm out, she pulls the other back allowing the weave to bind together before swiftly pushing it forward. The air screams as the weave pulses once, twice, three times, then four before exploding in the middle of the pack sending ten flying.

Chloro says 'Now you try in the same order.'

Navani embraces the source and weaves a thin flow of earth, folding in three flows of air and a tiny flow of fire. Using both hands she ties the weave together and directs it flying toward the middle of the scarecrows throwing 6 of them into the air.

Vianca steadies her feet and powerful flows of air meet with a spark of fire, planting her feet she allows the energy to slam into the middle of a gang of ragged scarecrows.

Chloro says 'Good attempts for both of you, Vianca the air is key the debris can harm as much as the explosion itself. A weave to work on while you venture north. Now a second.'

Vianca says 'Yes, Aes Sedai,'

Vianca smiles happily.

Navani curtseys gracefully.

Chloro reaches out, she pulls in threads of spirit, fire and water braiding them together before wrapping them into flows of air pushing her right hand out swiftly the weave wrapped around her arm a jet of explosive steam to sear the flesh off shoots out charring the first tree dummies." Now you replicate."

Navani draws in threads of spirit, fire, and water weaving them together into a ball surrounded by weaves of air, lifting the ball over her head she throws it overhanded like a basketball into the middle of the scarecrows causing a blast of steam that burns the heads off the dummies.

Vianca grins as you watch both her hands conjure up a might concoction of spirit, fire and water sending the mass shrieking towards a group of dummies, destroying 5 in the process.

Chloro says 'I see you both prefer that weave. That is good, it is used more in the south.'

Navani nods slowly at Chloro Sedai and says "I am looking forward to testing these weaves out against the shadowspawn next time they come south".

Chloro pulls together a flow of fire water and air letting the fire and water meld together as the flow of air shimmers in front of her pulsing. "This is the small version of it. The larger can be used as a distraction to allow you to produce another more devastating wave. I will allow you to practice this on your own. Remember girls, the dead do not fight the shadow. Dismissed."

Vianca says 'Thank You, Aes Sedai'
