On Defenders, Justice, and Discipline

Summary:
Shortly after awaking in her Ajah chambers, Alexis receives word that a Defender of the Stone is in Tar Valon seeking an audience with an Aes Sedai. She meets with him to ascertain his needs, and coordinates with the Blue Ajah regarding matters of justice and his concerns. In the process, she observes foolish behavior by a novice and meets with her privately to debrief and to discuss the matter of discipline.

Aelrena shifts her weight, looking down at the floor and quietly smoothing her skirts again before looking back up to the Aes Sedai.

Lys sniffs sadly.

Alexis chuckles as the servant nods and excuses himself to fetch someone. 'The White Tower has need, at times, for securely detaining criminals, and the means to safely do so.'

Alexis says 'You washed all of them?'

Akella says 'No Alexis Sedai, I washed a few. But I can wash the rest!'

Akella wonder what her parents would think of her now. VOLUNTEERING to wash dishes??!

Alexis says 'I do not expect you to single-handedly keep all of our dishes clean, child.'

Akella says 'I read a tale of them one time, but the details are fuzzy. I believe they defend....Tear?'

Alexis says 'They are the justice organization that oversees the city of Tear, safeguards the Stone of Tear, and enforces its laws.'

Alexis says 'They have a history of not trusting the White Tower, or anyone who can channel.'

Alexis says 'When you make a fool of yourself in front of one of them, it can have ripple effects.'

Akella thinks Alexis Sedai must have switched them once, too.

Akella thinks about the choice words Lord Melat mentioned, but keeps herself from saying them again.

Akella says 'I do not want that, Alexis Sedai.'

Alexis says 'Right now, -you- are the obstacle that is holding yourself back from advancement, child. You have within yourself the ability to meet that potential.'

Akella thinks she understands...

Alexis says 'We expect order, discipline, and humility from novices because learning to surrender is the hardest but most important lesson that you must master before you can grow in your ability to channel saidar.'

Akella closes her eyes and becomes the calm river flowing, as Sarinda Sedai taught her.

Alexis nods in agreement.

Akella says 'Yes, Alexis Sedai. Discipline does not come...easily...to me, but I will try my hardest to learn.'

Alexis says 'See that you do.'

Alexis says 'And to aid you, I am giving you an assignment.'

Akella brightens at the mention of words "research" and "read".

Akella says 'yes, Alexis Sedai! I can do that!'

Alexis says 'I want you to write me a report on relationships between Tear and Tar Valon, paying attention to potential challenges with diplomacy.'

Alexis says 'This is meant to be part of the lesson we have discussed tonight, but if the report pleases me and is well written, I will still award you merits for it.'

Alexis says 'But I will expect it all the same. Do I make myself clear?'

Akella frowns at the mention of the word "report." That's not as fun as research.

Akella says 'Yes, Alexis Sedai, I can do that.'

Alexis nods in agreement.

Akella says 'When you are done, I would like to ask you a question, Alexis Sedai.'

Alexis says 'What is your question?'

Akella says 'What is this?'

Akella gets the Rod of Skies from a backpack.

Akella grabs the Rod of Skies.

Akella says 'The Rod of Skies.'

Alexis purses her lips thoughtfully.

Alexis frowns.

Alexis says 'Where did you find this?'

Akella says 'On the floor of the Inn. The one behind the chamberdoor in the Tower. For the novices.'

Alexis nods slowly.

Akella says 'And in all honesty, I truly do not know what it is.'

Akella narrows her eyes.

Alexis eyes Akella with a weighing look, then holds out her hand. 'I believe you.'

Akella says 'I must warn you, Alexis Sedai, the first time I channeled it was in response to someone trying to steal and worse from me. You do not want to risk my power.'

Akella stops using the Rod of Skies.

Akella gives Alexis the Rod of Skies.

Alexis nods slowly.

Akella is sure she is just as powerful as Alexis Sedai, but is too tired from cooking food to prove it.

Alexis says 'I have not seen this in person before, but I have heard of its description.'

Akella pulls out her paper to take notes.

Alexis says 'If the reports I have read are true, it is a ter'angreal, an item of the One Power that can be used for a specific function or purpose.'

Akella says 'I have heard of...sangreal? But not ter'angreal.'

Alexis says 'Each ter'angreal has a different trigger. Some require a weave of the Power. Others a touch of a button, or holding it in a certain way.'

Alexis explains, 'Angreal are like a...well of the Power. They enhance your connection to the True Source, allowing you to wield more Power than you could unaided. A sa'angreal is a much more powerful angreal.'

Akella it's hard to tell upside down, but you think she just scribbled on the paper, "Do not give people stuff you find on the floor. It might be valuable."

Alexis says 'This one, however, has been reported to be captured and possessed by the Shadow. A trolloc known simply as the Raven Master in a ruined keep, deep in the Blight, was its last known owner.'

Akella shivers.

Alexis says 'Not exactly something to leave lying around in the novice quarters, and certainly not to experiment with. Doing so could be fatal.'

Akella says 'Interesting...'

Alexis says 'I need to take this, and ensure that it is put away for safekeeping.'

Akella gets a dagger from a small purse.

Akella wields a dagger.

Alexis senses Akella connecting to the True Source.

Akella weaves her hands, creating a flow of water that fills a water skin.

Akella puts a water skin on her belt.

Akella stops using a dagger.

Akella puts a dagger in a small purse.

Akella wields a staff of sungwood in a two-handed grip.

Akella says 'Yes, Alexis Sedai, I understand. It does sound important. Maybe one day I will be powerful enough to use it.'

Alexis purses her lips thoughtfully. 'Perhaps you will.'

Alexis says 'Do you have any other questions?'

Akella says 'No, Alexis Sedai. And....thank you.'

Alexis says 'Then you are dismissed for now. But Akella...If I find you attempting to harm an innocent pet again, the punishment will be severe. I will not tolerate it for as long as you are with us.'

Akella ruffle's Puppy's fur.

Alexis says 'You must learn to control your anger, or otherwise subdue it, or it will be your ruin.'

Akella says 'Oh, Alexis Sedai, I did not try to harm him. I missed him on purpose. I would never harm an innocent animal.'

Akella says 'But I still should not have thrown the rocks. I guess I can do better. I will try, Alexis Sedai, I promise.'

Alexis nods in agreement.

Akella says 'I will go find something productive to do now. I believe there were many dishes to wash.'

Alexis says 'Then you are free to go for tonight. Wash a few stacks of dishes to make up for the dirty plates you made, and work on that report at your earliest convenience.'

Akella clambers to her feet.

Akella stops following Alexis.

Alexis says 'You can mail it to me when it is complete.'

Akella nods in agreement.

Akella leaves east.
