I use wagons, can lead 2 horses and ride one so you can have a pack train of 3. Each wagon holds 300lbs, so you can run 45 buckets that way across the map... Saddlebag only holds 1 bucket, but the newer wicker panniers can hold 3 buckets as well. So all total a single non-master can transport 54 on ...

What about an option to do something with the small gemstones instead of only cashing them out?

You give 10 small gemstones to a master gemcutter.
A master gemcutter gives you a large gemstone.
